The Crew: Me (31) DW (same) DS (13) and DD (11) yes we started young::yes::

We visited HRP on Thursday June 12th 2008. Park hours that day were 10am to 1am! The HRP offically broke ground in July of 2006 and opened it's guitar laiden gate to the public on May 9th 2008.

The day before we hit the beach pretty hard so we were all a little slow in getting to the park and so we missed the park openeing. With a little effort though, we managed to arrive at the front of the park at 11:15am.

Here is the first entrance you see as you arrive at the parking lot:

Parking was $10 and I didnt see where you could pay extra to park closer. The parking lot isn't that big anyway and I didn't see the presents of a tram either (kinda like Sea World)

We walked up to the ticket center:

I had planned on buying the tickets online last week before we got here at $55 per ticket but I kept hesitating and boy and I glad I did. When we got to the ticket window, a one day admission was $40 per person or $50 per person for any 2 days in the park in a consecutive 7 day period. We just bought the one day ticket and already I felt like I had saved nearly $60 by not buying online, although that isn't usually the case with advanced purchased tickets.

We took our tickets and headed torward the turnstyles. Two young ladies checked my camera bag with drumsticks instead of the normal thin wooden dowels I'm used to seeing, I thought that was a nice Hard Rock touch!

Now HRP is situated on 140 acres of land but the park itself is only 55 acres, so it's not very big in comparison to other major parks.

The HRP is laid out in different themed areas that circle the outside of the lake in the middle of the park (similar to Word Showcase in EPCOT)

These themed areas are called "Rock n Roll Heaven", "British Invasion", "Lost in the 70's", " Born in the U.S.A." and lastly "Cool Country" The main gate area and it's shops are known as "All Access Entry Plaza"

I'll do a short walk through and give you my impression of each starting with the first themed area you will see if you walk into the park Through the "All Access" area and turn left.

A very cool entrance! This is where you will find HRP's signature rollercoaster, 'Led Zepplin the Ride' You will also pass a nice CS restaurant called "A Taste of Paradise" we didn't eat there but the themeing of this CS restaurant was very cool! They even had a man playing steel drum music outside of the place all day.

Directly across from "A Taste of Paradise" is the "Reggae River Falls" water play area. This is very neat and much needed on a hot day and I like the name too:)

My WiFI connection in the resort we are staying at is a little slow. I'm trying to upload more photos to Photobucket so that I can include them in the this review. So after dinner I'll pickup here with the Led Zepplin ride review with photos!!

Lovin the review! Keep 'em coming! My first thought though when I saw the pics was that you may have gotten the opening date wrong - looks so empty so be opening day  With crowds so low, did they have all of the attractions up and running? Looks like an awesome place for a visit.

I thought the same thing! not so many people, maybe it was very early in the morning

Great review so far, Matt! Thanks a bunch for all the photos!

It does look pretty empty, which is awesome. Maybe we will have to check it out. I was imagining huge crowds, since this is its first summer.

Funny, the Reggae River Falls is very similar to Great Wolf Lodge's Fort Mackenzie - they must've bought them from the same place

Can't wait to hear about Led Zepplin The Ride - that looks way cool.

subscribing! i am very interested in this park.. great review so far!!:thumbsup2

Can't wait for the next installment. :bitelip:

Thanks for the encouragement so far. I do agree, the whole day from open to close, my wife and I just couldn't believe how empty the park was. From what I understand, opening day was May 9th so our visit yesterday comes just over a month after the park opened. All day we would see workers just sitting around waiting for something to do. At lunch we walked into a CS restaurant in the 70's area and their were about 10 workers just leaning against the wall talking to each other, when they saw us, they were very attentive and got our food items to us quickly. It seemed sometimes that the park was opened just for us (kinda like Wally World) go Clark Griswald:lmao:

I asked one of the workers about the crowd levels and what she thought. Her reply was that it is still early in the season and once more artist start booking to play at the park (HRP has a 10,000 seat ampitheatre) the crowd levels will pick up. As a matter of fact, a band that I really like called Passafire was playing at HRP the day we were there. They were playing twice, once at 9pm and again at 11pm. We caught the 11pm show and it was us and about 10 other people in the crowd (ouch) Anyway, after the show I saw the band in the Led Zepplin gift shop (they had just rode the Zepplin Ride) so I went up to them and had about a 20 minute conversation with them right there in the gift shop, how cool:cool1:

O.K. so as we headed to the Led Zepplin ride, we were asked to put our camera bag into one of the lockers near the ride. These lockers are all touch screen and very easy to use and the first 2 hours of any of the lockers around the park are free. So we unloaded our bags and headed to the line.

HRP themed this ride and que area very well.

This is what you see upon entering the line
IMG_3813.jpg

The Hermit statue was very cool and is in the line path

Needless to say, we walked right up to the ride without more than a 5 minute wait. On the walls of the waiting area are serveral Zepplin album covers. AT this point, I just had my iPhone, but here are some photos of that area.
LedLine.jpg

And then the que area waiting to enter the pre ride show.
LedQue.jpg

Once we entered the doors, we were in a little room staring at a 70 or so inch LCD playing some Zepplin interviews and music. The walls on the side light up and made you feel like you were at a Zepplin concert and watching the show. This lasted about 8 minutes or so and then the doors opened and we were now inside the actual zepplin where the loading and unloading of the coaster happens.
InTheZep.jpg

We loaded up quick and then came the thumbs up, and we were off. This ride is timed to the Zepplin song "Whole Lotta Love" and each coaster seat has a nice big JBL audio speaker and tweeter right in front of you.
JBLAudio.jpg

The ride itself wasn't anything out of the ordinary but the music was a nice touch. The ride was quick and just a little rough but from beginning to end the detail was in place and I didn't feel anything left to be desired. In true Disney fashion, the ride exits through the gift shop. This area was nicely equipped with all kinds of Zepplin and HRP souvenirs.

The first of four live shows that the HRP was offering that day was about to start. The show was called Malibu Beach Party.
IMG_3818.jpg

We love a good live show and wanted to make sure we saw all four, after all the park would be open until 1am, more than enough time.

The Malibu Beach Party was a great show and very entertaining. Some kind of action was always going on the whole 25 minute show. Some times my wife and I felt like the girls swin suites were a little to reveiling for a 'family' show but we just looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders.

The diving board action was great!
IMG_3869.jpg

After the show let out, we headed off to the "British Invasion" area.....
IMG_3880.jpg

Sounds great. Now I really want to go there!

Maybe one day I'll have to to a trip going to all the non disney theme parks I can in the US.

I'm glad someone is reviewing this park. Now that you are heading into the British Invasion part of the park, PLEASE tell me you rode the "Nights in White Satin" ride!!!! I am a HUGE Moody Blues fan and I am going to plan a trip there just to experience that ride!! I would love to get some opinions on it.

British Invasion:

O.K. so this area was interesting. I liked the European feel it had and it really made me want to visit England!

The first ride we saw was the "Magic Mushroom" ride.
IMG_3884.jpg

The kids wanted to ride this one so as they did, I took pictures.
IMG_3889.jpg

Next we can across these spinning little English cars that the kids ended up riding 3 times in a row! again a testament to just how empty the park was, they didn't even have to get off and get back in line.
IMG_3958.jpg

The first CS restaurant we saw was this one
IMG_3895.jpg

It was located right across the street from the Magic Mushroom ride.

After the kids were done with the spinning cars, we wanted to try out the Moody Blues ride "Nights in White Satin, The Trip"
IMG_3943.jpg

The whole ride is in doors and pretty dark. When you enter, an employee hands you a pair of disposable 3D glasses (they weren't the hard plastic ones we are used to at WDW) Then they ask you to put them on right away.

As you walk into the ride everything is black lite and all done in 3D from the carpet to the walls, everything was 3D like.

We then got to the loading area and each cart held 6 people, 3 in front and 3 in the back. once loaded the 'Trip' begins. The ride is very slow moving and only spins around 2 or 3 times but not fast enough to make even the most sensitive person ill.

You enter room after room as the Nights in White Satin plays out loud. Now I have never done acid, but this really felt like what I would imagine it to be like. It had a really 70's feel to it and some of the visuals were intense.

The ride lasted maybe 5 minutes and as we exited the ride a sign reads "Keep Your Glasses On" this allowed us to see more 3D effects as we were walking out the exit door and right into......Thats right, a gift shop:lmao:

Now I'm not entirely sure if this ride was part of the British Invasion area or the 70's area but as we left the gift shop area we seemed to have been transported in to my least favorite decade.....the 70's

Stuck in The 70's:
IMG_3935.jpg

This area didn't seem to have any rides associated with it, more so it was just an area to play carnival like games and it also had an arcade.

The 70's area had the HRP's only sit down TS restaurant called "Alice's"
IMG_3938.jpg

We decided to give it a try and walked inside.
IMG_3939.jpg

Now of course it was all but empty and we were seated right away.
IMG_3941.jpg

The inside of this restaurant reminded me a 70's TV show or two, almost had that "wonder Years" feel. Hey is that Winnie and Kevin sitting at the other table?

Anyway after looking over the menu, the kids didn't like the only two choices they had, mini burger or chicken fingers. My wife and I saw a couple of items we liked. The menu choices were rather small and the prices were in line with Theme park fare, say between $11 and $18 a plate. Well we didn't end up staying and in fact left the whole 70''s area altogether and headed back to Britain!

The waitress at Alices recommended a CS place called "Carnaby Street Cafe"
IMG_3953.jpg

So thats where we headed.

Looks like a nice park great theming and Peavey electronics is a sponser with The Whammy Bar / Peavey Lounge. Peavey is also part of Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi, MS. Side note Peavey electronics is a MS. Company founded in Meridan, MS. by Hartley Peavey sorry being from MS. I'm a little proud of that fact.
Anyway Seems like a nice park, maybe if all goes well they will build something down my way.

I'm really enjoying your review so far!!

Great Pics and I'm enjoying you're review I even showed DH and we are thinking of going to Myrtle Beach next year. Linda :)
