Looking for advice for those that work in an office. The girl who sits across from me eats some stinky hard boiled eggs every day. I'm constantly getting the whiff of it strongly, and the smell creates some nausea feeling.

I've been sick the past few days, and today I had to step away when they came out.

Does anyone know of anything I can put on my desk to cover the smell? I've already nicely mentioned something to her, and instead I got rudely insulted saying I smelled like cat, and it hurt her allergies. My cat never touches my clothes, fyi.

One of those odor absorbers in the little candle type containers? I suppose eating at the work desk is the norm in ur office? That's part of the problem and I personally think smelling those eggs would make Me have nausea too :(. Good luck !

Start eating Surströmming at your desk.

If your idea of Swedish fish is the chewy red gummy candy, then this Swedish seafood delicacy may catch you off guard. This sour, fermented herring is so noxious that even Sweden's official government website refers to it as having a "pungent smell of rotting fish." The site also recommends that you wash the herring before serving it, and warns that "the tin should be opened outdoors but its contents are best eaten indoors as the smell attracts flies."

Well, if you have a cat chances are you have some cat hair on you and that could bother someone with allergies.

As for the eggs, I'd just get an air freshener of some sort. I bring hard boiled eggs to work sometimes but I peel them at home and put them in a container. It's likely the peeling that's bothering you.

Impossible.

I think it was the part that she said I actually smelled like a cat was bothersome, but my clothes don't have any odor to them. Also, there is someone that actually sits next to her that has a cat, and she hasn't said a thing to them.

We were told in training to not eat anything that could be offensive smelling at our desks. I try to stick to non smelling stuff, or something like popcorn. If someone mentioned being offended, I'd just eat it on my break away from my desk.

The week she mentioned it, I had been pulling my clothes straight out of the dryer, and went to work without touching the cat.

Just because you cat may not have touched your clothes does not mean there isn't hair/dander in the air, on the furniture, etc. You cannot live with a cat and never have contact with hair or dander. You just can't.

Offensive smells are so subjective. Eggs wouldn't bother me but buttery microwave popcorn would.

Don't engage in the war with your coworker. Get an air freshener and call it a day.

A pet hair does not mean you smell like pets and what she said was just mean. I'm allergic to cats and my DH is highly allergic, that does not mean we are bothered by someone owning a cat.

I agree, smelly foods do not belong in an office environment where people are working. Eat it in the break room or elsewhere. That's why I don't bring eggs, tuna, or foods like that to work.

Air freshener or put a dab of perfume or lotion under your nose. Also, just keep in mind, that we become immune to the smells that we live with, so just because you don't smell cat on you, doesn't mean that others won't. Especially those that do not have cats or who are allergic. Even if you'd just pulled your clothes out of the wash thee smell can be in your shoes, jacket, purse, hair....

Buy a fan and blow it at her when she eats..

Yes, I'm kidding but I'd be tempted to do that if someone ate eggs around me. The smell of pets would do it too.

I hate it when people bring food that stinks to work. I don't like Olive Garden because I used to have a co-worker who would bring leftover Olive Garden stuff, heat it in the microwave and stink up the entire lounge like garlic. She did this sooooo often, I was glad to see her go :rotfl:
