Happy with DVC no matter what!

Sorry I didn't buy in 1992 - overjoyed that we bought in 1997 and two more contracts since - As others have said - the memories are priceless and beyond that is the fact that I will never be in the position to be stuck in a rocking chair saying " I wish I had----------". My answers are gone to DL for the 50th, given my daughter a week at Vail, spent Christmas with the family at WDW. Without DVC I would never have spent the money year by year to do these things. It is not for everyone but even as I am still paying off my SSR contract by switching from credit card to credit card as low rate offers are available and could be saying "what was I thinking of?" now that retirement is imminent and money will be tighter- I agree DVC no matter what.

I see your point, Dean, & I do understand why owners are giving the preferred booking, and yet...DVC CAN lock you into a particular resort (unless you're able to travel during lowest turn-out times, or don't want Xmas.) As I said, I love being an owner, but for ex., regret never having stayed at Poly, & now probably never will (altho I ALMOST succumbed this time cuz the others wanted it, till I came to my senses). And now, trying to all stay together (15+ family members, all non-DVC'ers), they're all booking at both my home BCV, in addition to VWL, which is costing them an additional $200 deposit, until I know for sure in May (7 mo window) if I can get into VWL. Don't mean to sound like a cry-baby, or ungrateful for what I have, but it's somewhat simpler (albeit more $$$) for them....Marie
Use those you miss for weekends and stay at DVC for weekdays. You get to try the other resorts and save points.

have you though about trading points with a VWL DVC member. BCV is very popular and the reservations are hard to get.

I am pretty sure a VWL owner will be happy to trade points with you - if you just ask.

I have, I have, w/ no luck! I posted an offer last week to swap reservations w/ a VWL owner, & thought someone might be interested - with the perks Beach Club has - but no takers yet. So now my relatives are booking at both resorts (non-DVC'ers), until I know what I'm doing. Maybe something will turn up...

Great post Pam & Joe. There's nothing like great memories with the family, especially w/the kids when their young and I agree that there is a certain peace of mind knowing that you'll always have a beautiful, wonderful home at DVC.
we took our first family vacation w/the kids this past November at Pop Century and within 6 weeks of coming home we joined DVC at SSR. And of course hardly a day goes buy when one of the kids aren't talking about which ride they'll be going on first next time at DisneyWorld..........

We always seem to be debating the cost effectiveness of being a DVC member on this site and I must admit I was skeptical before I joined in 2003 but I’ll tell ya what, all I need to do is see my daughters face and remember all of the memories from our last trip and it makes it all worth it. Big rooms, full kitchens on Disney property, who could want more? We go every year for my daughter’s birthday in July, ever since she was 3 and she is 8 now. It’s usually the whole family who come down with us. They just pay airfare and tickets and they’ve got a place to stay. This past October just I and my daughter went down to Disney for MNSSHP and had an absolute blast. I can’t put a price on that. If you can buy in to DVC, do it! The memories alone take care of the monetary worries. :thumbsup2

mcreste,
what if you had rented out your points and paid cash for the ressie at the same place as the other relatives? you don't HAVE to use you points for the ressie if it's not working out...do you?

You're right!! Thank you!!! I can try doing that (I never thought of doing it that way, being relatively new to DVC).
