I've actually done this, its called a lounge chair at the pool with headphones. :thumbsup2

Sounds like a good way to kick off a vacation to me :)

I think this is a mountain out of a molehill issue.

I've visited resorts before, hung out in the lobby and been so comfortable and relaxed (and tired from playing hard) that I dozed off... I didn't realize that it was the moral equivalent of crapping on my neighbor's lawn.

I doubt the resorts will ever become overrun with people seeking to nap on the couches/chairs in the middle of the day so I don't think it's worth all of this fuss. Disney encourages people to visit resorts where they are not staying by putting great restaurants in gorgeous lobbies and making them destinations in themselves... and if the guy wants to sit down in a chair and doze for a few hours, it's no skin off my teeth. Maybe it's just me but whenever I see someone dozing in a disney hotel lobby it makes me smile because I imagined that they are spending a lot of time having a lot of fun and it zonked them out. It never occurs to me to even think about where that person is staying on property.

Everyone has their pet peeve, this would be mine. Yes, one person dozing off in a hotel lobby is no big deal, but that thread specifically said that there is an almost "twin size bed" in the Iron Spike room at VWL that appears would be a good place to sleep.

That type of information floating around is not going to do anyone's hotel lobby any good, never mind a small area like the Iron Spike room. When we visit there (where we own) we often go to that area and enjoy it. If someone was sleeping on that "twin bed", I would be inclined to go somewhere else, which I should NOT have to do.
I have a very large problem with that.

I agree. Putting information like that out on the resorts board is like giving an invitation to folks to "use" an area that they really are not entitled too. While there could be some arguement that it is a "public" place, that might be true, but the Iron Spike room is definitely part of the DVC portion of the resort, and not connected to the main lobby. Falling asleep in the lobby of your hotel while you wait for your room to be ready is one thing, but specifically going to a more plush spot of a different hotel and sleep in an area that is considered to be a community room for those folks, is worse than just "tacky".

I have to agree with Sammie and the others.

Im not uptight at all, we have arrived extra early and waited in the car to check in and we have also paid points for the night knowing we would not check in until 3 am but we didnt want to wait in the car again! LOL!!

I agree, it is not good to advertise our resort amenities for a use they were not intended especially on a message board. No offense to the OP of that thread, she was just asking a question and deserves to have it answered, but for those recommending DVC resorts as places to crash until their resort room is ready, they should be ashamed. :confused3

That's fine if you dont need all the amenities that Deluxe/DVC resorts offer and want to stay/pay elsewhere, but I agree, these are our homes and while guests and visitors are welcome, it is not a rest stop and should not be advertised as such.

If you check in and your room is not ready and you fall asleep waiting, no one is going to hold that against you. :wizard:

Wow! A new way to maximize value from your points...just sleep in the Iron Spike Room (and shower at Stormalong Bay) on Friday and Saturday nights!

:rotfl2:

Thanks for the support everyone. I knew DVC members would see this differently from nonmembers. And yes the comments about finding a DVC resort lobby or the Iron Spike room is the reason I shared it here.

No I am not mean spirited or the Grinch and I appreciate the fact the OP's husband's has to work all night, but they only live a couple hours away. I would go home and get a restful nap in my own bed before I would ever try to camp out at some resort lobby that I am not even checking into. :confused3

There is a difference in waiting in your own lobby for your room at the resort where you are going to stay from driving to a resort "just" to sleep.

And as stated it's one thing for one person, but when you share this type of suggestion on Net forums you are providing that info to many more. I don't want to check into my DVC Home and need to sit in the lobby and wait for "my room", and it look like the local bus station.

I don't visit the Resorts Board often so I believe that is the reason it was posted here is so DVC members are aware about what's being suggested. I would suggest if they have a car, for him to put the seat back and take a nap in there or drink some coffee or Mountain Dew. I can't imagine telling my DH to take a nap in a public place, one thing is if he doses off in the lobby of the hotel but another thing is to plan for him to get comfy and take a nap. He would be mortified! I know alot of people including myself get cranky and moody if they don't get enough sleep, so if I couldn't be a good sport and go out than I would stay in and sleep. Personally, I would be paranoid to go to a hotel I was not staying in, than get busted or questioned by the staff and face enormous embarrassment.

This whole thing just stinks of the kind of elitism and territorialism that makes most people who are not in DVC think that people who own DVC are nutty and cult-like. Do you honestly think that 99.9% of the people have nothing better to do on their vacation than invade "your home" for a nap? You let me know if the next time you pass through the iron spike room it looks like grand central station.... I highly doubt it, even though it's been posted on the internet. That's why I say you're making a mountain out of a molehill. But by all means, get your collective noses out of joint about some homeless guy... er, I mean some bum... er, I mean some other disney guest who is staying at a value resort who dares to set foot on your territory.

You're obviously not the only one but I just think some of you should take a moment to reflect on just how lucky you are in your lives that something like this is something to get upset over.

WOW! a voice of reason on the DVC boards! I have to run back and spread the news on the "slum" boards! Thanks, Lisa, you've reaffirmed my faith in the human race!

I don't think that I feel like an elitist, but I do know that I paid for my points, and I also use my DVC discount to stay at DVC properties. That entitles me to use them as my second home, and who knows, I might just fall asleep in the lobby in I get comfy enough. Now anyone else who wants to buy points and or rent points through Disney to stay in any of the lovely DVC properties can also have the same opportunity to get comfortable in any of those lobbies and take a little cat nap. But if those folks are paying to stay at another resort, then they need to check out the couches or pool accomodations at that resort.

They would be like the homless that sleep in the public lib.

I think it would not be out of place to do that at the quiet pool of their resort.

I know many a firemen that pull doubles before they come to WDW so they can get two 48 hours off in a row. They hit the parks when they arrive. None of this ooohh I need my beauty rest princess stuff.
Don't they know all this metro girly man stuff is out and the rugged tuff guy stuff is back.

suck it up nancy boy.
Yea a lot of these firemen sleep a lot at trhe firehouse.

Wow! I am in favor of the man getting the best nap that he can, and this would probably be in his own bed, or luckily with an early check in.

If the question was originally posed by a member of DVC, home resort VWL, staying at the VWL, my answer would be the same.

Bobbi :)

I think starting another thread was in very bad taste. :sad2:

The tones in these post have trully saddened me. I am sure the OP is just as saddened that things have turned this way. OP wasnt looking to mooch or steal or anything else. So Sad

OP - I hope you and your family lots of great pixie dust and have a wonderful vacation!
