Those of you with Italian blood know what today means: St. Joseph zeppoles. Yay! But it is also the day that we remember the man who was Jesus's earthly father and protector.

May the spirit of St. Joseph keep you all well-protected today and throughout the year. :) Good night, guys.

And to you too, Janice. If Marie were awake, she would pass on to you too. :goodvibes

Hey Margie!!! Nice to see you. :thumbsup2 Did you check in on the old timer thread, linked in my signature?? :cool1:

OMG zeppoles were the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread title. I remember one year when my mother was on vacation and my sister and I were in college she made an obscene amount of zeppoles and we ate pretty much all of them.....3 lbs of deep fried dough with rasins eaten hot is NOT a pretty picture. Thank God it was in the era of tent dresses! Have not had them again in like 20 years. Now I just LOOK like I ate 3lbs and tent dresses are not in style. I guess I will just have to keep doing WW and try and find a substitute! :rotfl2:

Happy St Joseph's Day to my little Joseph. I haven't bought the pastries yet though.

Our neighbor already brought us the goodies. :goodvibes This is a very serious holiday for them.

Regular zeppole are basically Italian donuts--fried dough with or without raisins covered in powdered sugar.

St. Joseph's zeppole are these same donuts, but they are shaped into a flower, then split after they're cooled, filled with custard and topped with a candied cherry.

A different texture than American donuts. Really light, sort of airy pastry....between a donut and a croissant.

We call them sphinge (sp?) de san Guisseppe in my family. Can't wait for dessert!!! :woohoo:

Happy to see this thread! :)

Happy Saint Joseph's Day everybody!

I am originally from New Orleans and Saint Joseph's Day alters are a big deal there - I miss it. My dad always visits a few of the alters and saves a lucky bean for me!
