Happy people-watching at WDW

I am one perfectly happy Walt Disney World people watcher. I'm glad there's others like me. I absolutely LOVE the atmosphere and am perfectly happy just to sit an enjoy.

I actually posted this in a ... well, a rather unpleasant thread on the Trip Reports board. I thought it was better suited to a generally happier place like this section! Writing it actually made me cry. I'm a sentimental sap!

I hope it inspires another DIS poster to find happy people-watching opportunities at WDW!

I love people-watching at WDW. I love watching happy people being happy. I love watching young couples in love, old couples enjoying the fireworks arm-in-arm, little children at play, and adults who are enjoying the peculiarly grown-up delights of the World. I love watching people rush for their favorite attractions while other people stroll by and enjoy the ambience. I love watching the CM's make guests happy. I love watching that expression of recognition pass over a woman's face when she realizes the music playing on Main Street was a song in the musical during which she met her husband 20 years ago.

I love watching children spy a bunny on the lawn in front of the Plaza Restaurant. I love watching parade performers as they smile and wave at guests. I love watching kids when they get their first taste of a Mickey bar -- or the shocked disappointment that comes when they drop their ice cream, and then the expression of happiness when they're soothed by their parents over the mishap. I love watching people's mouths drop open in wonder when they examine the carvings on the Tree of Life. I love watching everyone -- young, old, and in-between -- point and gasp when they see the tigers on the Majaraja Jungle Trek. I love watching entire families laugh and talk about their day so far while they ride the train to Toon Town Fair.

I love, love, love seeing a child's face when she finally gets to hug Cinderalla. I love watching children run out of the exit from Buzz Lightyear, yelling at their parents about how cool the ride is. I love watching the CM's at the Haunted Mansion as they cast their spell over guests waiting to enter the doors. I absolutely adore the way the whole audience slowly turns around to face the back wall at the end of Mickey's Philharmagic as it dawns on them that there's something important going on back there.

I love people watching at WDW.

I can't wait to get back there, myself.

How about you?

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! Just the pick me up I needed today. We leave for WDW in 30 days. I will enjoy looking for these, and other happy moments.

My FIL taught me how to people watch years ago. Thank you for reminding me the wonderful lesson I learned from him.

I remember when my DD who was 5 at the time, saw Cinderalla and the fairy godmother come out of the castle for the first time and wave to everyone. Her eyes got HUGE and she would not look away. We got pretty close to the balcony and my DH put her up his on shoulders and yelled hello to "Miss Cinderella". I'm sure everybody thinks they make eye contact with her, but I am convinced she looked right at them both and waved directly at my DD. I will never ever ever forget that moment...it was worth saving quarters in the Mickey jar for 7 years to be able to afford that trip.

Hopefully me and DD who is now 8 will get to see another little princess in training have the same magical moment.

We all need to take the time to see the magic!

Thanks for the great post. I love people watching too, it is wonderful to see people when they are truly happy and stressfree.

Bay - I saw this on the other thread and was blown away! Thank you for the lovely thoughts that truly embody all I feel about Disney. You certainly have plenty of company, despite the frequent "peeves" lists that abound.

Thank you again for keeping the pixiedust in your heart!!!

i think that on another thread of favorite attractions and things to do i put people watching. what i love to watch are the things that were mentioned by the OP and not the other stuff.

You guys are the sweetest. Thanks for making my week so pleasant!!! I'm having the best time planning my trip, and I think some of you are going to be in WDW when I am later this month. I know who to look for -- you'll be perched on benches, watching the happy people around you, and smiling!

At least once each trip I spend a morning in MK people watching, I also like to sit on the porch at Tony's. I really like to get a good spot on a bench with a really good view of people emerging from under the railroad station. My favorite is the look of complete awe and wonder on a child's face the moment they see Cinderella Castle, and the teary happy look on the parents faces. Just the look on people's faces' the open-mouth ear-to-ear smile that turns into deep sigh of contentment and satisfaction that says "We're here, we've finally made it and it is wonderful".

I also like to sit on a bench on the upper level of the train station and look out over Main Street and just enjoy the atmosphere.

I also love to watch people unfold their maps, look at the map, point at something on the map, look up, look back at the map, look up turn around, point in a general direction, while another person who has looked at the same map points in a completely different direction, then the map gets turned, and more pointing is done, then they move to their destination. I see this ALOT at MGM, it makes me giggle, because, I have done that very same thing a million times.

I too, am a people watcher while at Disney. I don't have a favorate place or park to sit and watch at though. This last visit in July, we took our 3yo grandson and his family with us. Some times I would go ahead to get a picture of them all walking together, and after I took my picture, I would notice all of their faces with big smiles or grins. I would say to myself that this was truly the most happiest place in the world to be at! Then I would look around at other people, and they all would have the same smile, enjoying themselves and the moment. Disney is truly a wonderful and magical place!!

Nothing is better than seeing kids yell "MICKEY!" when they see him in Fantasmic. I kinda tear up over it. I love seeing children and families having a great time at Disney. :goodvibes
