Happy Mothering Sunday to all those around the world who celebrate today. I am off to London for dim sum with my wonderful son. Maybe a too.

Your Mom doesn't like them or they're not allowed? Mother's Day is the second-busiest day of the year for florists here (after Valentines); ours is in May. Have a lovely visit.

Your Mom doesn't like them or they're not allowed? Mother's Day is the second-busiest day of the year for florists here (after Valentines); ours is in May. Have a lovely visit.

She doesn't like flowers but she loves a Mars bar or a Curly-Wurly!!

Traditionally people in service were given the day off to return home and visit their ‘Mother Church’ and then of course their families, so it became a day of celebrating motherhood. Churches here still hand out daffodils for children to gift to their Mothers on Mothering Sunday.
I had a lovely day. I arrived in London mid morning, met my son, enjoyed a lovely meal of dim sum in Chinatown, wandered around the West End, then for a drink in Covent Garden and more wandering around the stalls there, then down to the River, crossed over to the Southbank, stroll along the River, quick look at an exhibition in the Tate and then wine and nibbles at a pretty little bar next to Shakespeare’s Globe. I got the last train home and fell into my bed at 1am.
I lived and worked in London for most of my working life, but I enjoy visiting it as a tourist…. and I am so much better at directions and generally knowing where we are going than my son. There is something quite special about London on Sundays. It has a completely different feel to other days.
