How to be a Bride and Groom…well a dead groom and a murderous bride that is…:stir:

To go by Matt’s last Clue in our Costume guessing contest: we need something old, something new something bloodied and something bruised…

hauntedmansion.jpg

The idea of us dressing up as the haunted mansion Bride and one her poor dead husbands isn’t a new idea, but we can’t wait to interpret it for our own and especially in conjunction w/ our own Wedding Anniversary (quite ironic huh?)

So how did the idea come to us?

Long before the decision ever was made for Matt and I to go to WDW in October, a family conversation came about about what costumes would we dress up as for our family if we ever went to WDW during Halloween time. We aren’t big Halloween people but have always enjoyed dressing up in costume and especially helping our kids have fun too.

I believe it is during that conversation that Matt and I both said the quintessential WDW Halloween costume would have to be the HM Bride…I actually hoped someday this would come true!

Jump forward to the present trip planning and I just couldn’t wait to make this costume a reality…I initially thought of using an old lace dress of mine and tweak it for a wedding dress …but then in some HM research I knew it had to be something more…something classic…

I googled pixs of the HM bride and read up on some blogs and sites devoted to the HM and even saw some pixs of other guests who have dressed up as her.

Versions of the original HM Bride (pixs from doombuggies)

And the current Black Widow bride

And my vision started to come together. I knew I wanted to do homage to the original HM Bride w/ the beating heart…but dressed more similar to the current Black Widow Bride.

The decision was made to purchase a dress for myself and I starting looking around online and then on Ebay and I found it…the dress. I said “Yes to the Dress!” I never thought I’d get excited over another Wedding Dress compared to My Dress that I wore just about 15 yrs ago to my wonderful (alive) husband Matt.

I waited it out for over a day and then as the time ticked down I watched and waited to make that crucial bid to get the dress…a bid war ensued and luckily I WON it! WHO-HOO! I was so excited and couldn’t wait for it to come…it arrived a few days later and w/ eager anticipation I tried it on and as Matt zipped up the zipper (a little tight…so like any good bride to be I need to shed a few pounds) it went up and I was thrilled… :woohoo:

100_0261.jpg

100_0267.jpg

It’s a gorgeous antique dress and I love it to pieces even though it’s a Halloween costume…Matt rolls  his eyes at me…”girls and their dresses”

Matt will rig me up my beating heart and I need to buy a veil (or make one really) I’m going to ask my sister to help make me a little drawstring bag to carry my essentials for the night and then decide on the last minute details…I will share some more pixs as we get closer…but the final reveal you’ll have to wait on… :bride:

Now onto my Groom…

When we first decided to dress up, I wanted to go as Donald Duck (“no you didn’t”) but when Julie told me in no uncertain terms that my costume had to include pants, I decided I might as well try and match her costume.

Even though there are so many great characters to pick from in the HM the most obvious match for the Bride is the legendary Hat Box Ghost

HMhatboxghost.jpg

I had it all worked out…the high colored cape, the top hat, the cane, the hat box, w/ a plaster cast of my face in it that I could show to people while covering my real face w/ a plain black mask (in his mind I might point out)…but Julie had to be a buzz kill (yes I am so mean)and pointed out the fact that I’d have to carry all that junk around all night.

So the next best choice is one of the husbands…

Now all that is left is to decide who has the coolest facial hair (haha)

Clean Shaven: like the dopey looking, bowler hat wearing Ambrose Harper

HM-Ambrose.jpg

A debonair pencil thin mustache: like Frank Banks

HM-Frank.jpg

The Fu Manchu: of the Marquis

HM-Marquis.jpg

The massive lamb chops: of Reginald Caine

HM-Reginald.jpg

Or the great glorious walrus-tasche: of George Hightower

HM-George.jpg

Fortunately I would look awesome in any of them (can I tell you how much I detest facial hair BLAH).

The best part is no matter who I choose, I don’t have to worry about the costume, I just have to make sure I get my ascot dry-cleaned if I choose George Hightower. :groom:

Well there you have it…I hope you will continue to stay tuned as our costumes take place and of course wait to see how will look in our element when we arrive “home” to the Gracey Manor….:hmghost:

That is the perfect dress, Julie! Love, love, love it! You are going to have so much fun wearing it at MNSSHP!

Matt's post had me laughing -- who knew he wanted to be Donald! LOL!

Joining in to this PTR as well!!! Ohh I've so wanted to go to Disney in October, what a fun anniversary trip! I've always wanted to go to Food and Wine festival!!

Your dress is so cool! It works so perfectly!

:lmao: Matt's mustache debate has me laughing SO hard. My vote is for walrus.

Congrats to all the ladies that won the contest. I'm not really good with riddles and clues. I NEVER would have guessed it...even with ALL the clues! :lmao:

I do love the idea to dress as the HM bride and dead husband duo. How perfect for an anniversary trip. The dress you got on eBay is absolutely PERECT!! I love it....I just hope you aren't too hot and miserable at the party.

It's probably best that Matt decided against Donald Duck. I hear that Disney frowns upon those entering the family establishment without pants! :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: As for the dead husbands...my vote is for the Walrus! :scared1:

How fun! That dress is prefect. Making a veil is super easy and much cheaper. What are you going to wear for shoes?

This all sounds so awesome!:thumbsup2 I can't wait to see them in person! That dress is really perfect Julie! My vote for Matt would be the pencil thin mustache of Frank Banks!

DH and I's costumes are going to pale in comparison to these!:lmao:

I know, I'll need to rig a fan under me...and Matt says you're not dressing as Marilyn Monroe

Matt laughed outloud when I read him this :rotfl2:

That is the plan...not quite sure how yert, but matt is actually quite clever, he'll probably be the one to do it ;) shoes...honesty I'll probably be wearing flip flops  the dress is very long and I need to be semi comfy...won't seem them too much except when I'm hiking up the dress to get on rides or sitting down to watch the parade and Hallo-wishes

Tricia and I LOVE that show!!

I know it can be good, funny and :headache: at some of those people...

back to my hello's

Totally cool costume plan. :thumbsup2 Can't wait to see it all put together. You are going to have an amazing time!

I truly hope so on the amazing time and you'll have to come over and see the dress in person :thumbsup2

So let’s get back to the Oct planning shall we…

For those of you who follow along on my Jan PTR that’s in progress as well, you’ll know I’ve had FOOD on the brain there and well naturally that translated over to the Oct planning too…DH says this double planning is very confusing…I’m on top of things but yesterday while on the phone waiting on hold for almost a ½ hour w/ SWA Costumer relations dealing w/ the LUV voucher I never received for Matt’s ticket when I rebooked our flights in June…I was cleaning and straightening my desk area, when I happened to find a bill from May…I never paid, whoops.:rolleyes1

Well anyways I did get the LUV voucher thing straightened out but I won’t be fully relieved till I see it in my email inbox…besides dealing w/ food choices and a food budget for our Jan. trip I have been going over and tweaking the Oct. Food plans as well…

As a recap reminder:

* we are dining OOP on this trip too

* have 3 TS ADR’s Narcoossee’s, Hollywood Brown Derby and the Wave

* the rest of our dinning is QS and of course two times at F&W

I re-went over menu choices and plans for the park days and tweaked some of QS choices; here is a look at those:

Day 1: B airport L Contempo Café (sandwiches and drinks) D Casey’s Corner [on way out of park] hotdogs and a drink to share then Top World Lounge for late night drink and dessert

Day 2: B room L F&W locations D Narcoossee’s

Day 3: B room L HBD D Contempo Café for a shared sandwich and treats/snacks in MK Park later

Day 4: B Wave (hopeful buffet) L possible QS at AK (FTBBQ or Y&Y) D F&W locations

Day 5: B room L CHH (meal included in KTTK tour) D grab and go from Contempo Café (flatbreads)

Plus of course I have a few other snacks and treats budgeted in there
So my original Food Budget was $440 but that has gone up a bit as a few items were tweaked and added in…a ¼ of the new budget is practically for F&W LOL. My NEW food budget is $545.00

So let’s take a look at F&W shall we….you better have just eaten before looking at this post…

Epcot_Food__Wine_Festival_2_20.jpg

I know the 2011 official menus/booths are not all listed yet…but going off the 2010 info I think I have a pretty good idea what we want. I have used the info off the disneyfoodblog to gauge our plans. Matt and I went through the booths and menus and I created a spreadsheet to put in the countries, food items, prices and who chose it or if we plan to share (which generally is the case). Next I took the list and divided into two sections East which is basically Mexico to US and West which is Japan to Canada.

The East choices are for our first time through and the West choices for our 2nd time through…now this is not set in stone but just a way to help plan and budget. The West choices are a bit heavier in the alcoholic choices since this touring will be at night.

I have a basic overall budget of $155 for F&W which seems crazy high to me…but I’d rather over budget than under budget…this budget covers:

* 13 entrée options

* 10 dessert options

* 8 drink options (not all alcoholic and some are shared or)

*plus some leeway for a few other items

I’m not going to go through ALL of the possible choices or even each choice to make up the $150 budget but I’ll treat you to a few booths/choices we are most looking forward to. (all pixs/info is from disneyfoodblog)

Canada:

We’ll basically be saying “we’ll take 1 of everything” ;)

Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup
FWsoup.jpg

Maple-Glazed Salmon with Lentil Salad
FWSalmon.jpg

Chicken Chipotle Sausage with Sweet Corn Polenta

Nanaimo Bar
FWNanaimo-Bar.jpg

It will be like our own mini Le Cel dinner

France:

Can you say Grey Goose? Or maybe one of the special F&W Parisien Cosmo slushies
FWfrance-cosmo.jpg

Greece:

Matt wants to try the Greek Salad
FWgreece-salad.jpg

The Spanakopita looks good to me and we’ll try the Baklava here.

Australia (I have an Aussie friend so I’ll have to ask if they traditionally serve these food fares there) but Matt will lick his bone clean on the lamb chop:
FWlamb.jpg

And if they have Lamington (sponge cake dipped in chocolate)
FWLamington.jpg

We’ll indulge in this too

Germany:

Pretzel roll…who cares what’s in it...but it does look good?

Nürnberger Sausage in a Pretzel Roll
FWgermansausage.jpg

Hawaii:

This is a new food booth for 2011 and the options sound good! No pixs but you can just imagine…

Kalua Pork Slider with Sweet and Sour Dole Pineapple Chutney and Spicy Mayonnaise

Ikea (oh I mean Scandinavian):

Swedish Meatballs with Lingon Berries

So there’s a sneak peek into our F&W adventure…I am looking forward to trying new things and enjoying this part of our vacation.

We’ll also check out the special souvies, I want to get a cookbook for my sister for sure, she loves to cook and just as equally loves cookbooks; as well Matt is hoping the souvenir pilsners may be worth a purchase.

Continue to stay tuned for more planning…

Up NEXT: Day 4) Itinerary and tour card
