Although I have been lurking at the disboards for years, I have only braved to become a poster this month so please be patient with this newbie. Should this thread need to be moved or removed-feel free.

We have a Disney trip planned for Dec 19-27 and my sons cannot bear the thought of not having our own tree down there so I'm working to put up a budget one. Here is the plan and where I could use help. I'm using their old Disney figures (mostly happy meals but some playsets) and wiring them to a 4 foot tall tree. The boys have really gotten too old to play with most of these toys so recently I had started pitching them or giving them to friend's children for the most part. I was lucky enough to dig several out of the attic. I have placed bids on a couple of ebay auctions but I'm really worried that time is going to run out to ship these. I really would like to have as many movies/characters represented as possible but there are some that I have only one obscure character or none at all. We will be driving down and I'm looking for characters under 6inches tall. Anyone know of any of those nearby cheaper stores that stock a huge variety of these or where I can pick a large number of the happy meal ones at one time? We live in a very small town so I'm limited on Goodwill type stores also-I've checked my meager sources.
Any help would be so appreciated! By the way, I have these movies covered in abundance-Toy Story, Lion King, Monster Inc. -I'm desperately seeking-Nemo(should be the easiest to find), Stitch, Robin Hood, Oliver, and any other classics. Oh how I regret getting rid of those complete playsets!

Try goodwill--they have a whole bend of mcdonalds toys and last time i went in there dd found a ton she wanted and they are cheap. If she wasnt into them I would just offer mine but that would start a WW3 reaction. Good Luck and have a nice Christmas!!!!

BTW---thats a wonderful creative idea for a tree!!!! Your kids are lucky that you care and are willing to add the extra time to do something special!!! That will def. be a tree to remember!

I have several ones that I would be willing to mail to you. I love getting Happy Meals and I have three opened Disney toys. I have a Stitch, Chip and Dale, and I think a Mickey Mouse at home. I am at work and they are at home. If you would like these, please send me a PM.

Are you near a Disney store?
I THINK the buy one get one free toy sale is still going on.

They often have the sets with characters that are probably about the same size as happy meal toys. I know I saw a Stitch set at my local TDS just last week.
Might be more than you're looking to spend - but if the bogo sale is still on might be an easy way to pick up some of the harder to find characters if they happen to have those sets.

Cute idea btw!

What a wonderful, creative idea! If I come across any in the next couple of days (I am in the process of discarding tons of stuff), I will be happy to send to you, too. I will pm you if I find anything suitable. They would be very vintage since my kids are 18 and 20.

Good Luck and have a great vacation!

No, sadly they closed my nearest (40 miles) Disney Store. I just considered the 25% off at the website but of course shipping makes that stupid. My nearest Goodwill is also about the distance of the former Disney store and I work 65 miles in the opposite direction. But I think I will make the trip later this week and check there. ARRRGGHHH what I thought would be a cheap easy solution is now going to become a time consuming and possibly expensive obsession. LOL What ends of the earth we won't go through for our children!

Those of you offering your own- I never expected such kindness! I was just hoping someone had spotted well stocked outlets near the property on past trips. If anyone has some they would want to clean out I would be happy to try and work with you to recoup shipping. I just thought that doing them this way might get crazy unless I could locate a bulk shipment.

I will check my eBay boxes and see what I have. I will PM you and see if anything works for you.

Trust me it's still not a cheap tree. I decided that I was going to do the same thing and have been buying them at the thrift stores for months. We have a lot but don't have them all up yet. My kids said I am crazy. But have fun I love to look at our tree of mickey d's toys. One year when my son was young we did a hot wheels tree. That way if he took any off it didn't matter.

Once at a silent auction benefit for a hospital nearby, I bid and won a Burger King Tree that stood about 6 ft tall. It was at the time one of the Rugrats movies came out so I purchased the whole tree for my 5 year old (at the time) cousin. I think it only cost me something like $35 and if was filled with the Kid's meal toys, Rugrats watches, and coupons for free Kid's meals. The coupons alone were more than worth it! It was a really clever idea for a tree.

Where are you staying? We are at Pop Century from Dec 19-29. I can check and see if we have anything (I think we probably have Nemo) and bring them with us. Suz

Hi Suz,
We will be in POR in the Alligator Bayou section. I will PM you the room name! If you can't get around to bringing it, I understand! Thanks for the help.

No problem. I'll let you know early next week if we can find them. I know they are in a yard sale box in the basement but I have at least 50 yard sale boxes from the last 3 years of "THIS year we're having a yard sale". We'd love to share and know that they are going to a good home.
