Happy Haunted 5k Trail Run

Just registered for this! I'm nervous, but also very excited to run my first 5K.

I just finished the C25K program and I feel I will be more than ready for this now.
I am not so sure I am prepared fully for the Disney magic of a 5k, but I am super excited to run my first Disney event!

patkingpin - I ran my first 5k ever at Disney in 2006 with the inaugural Minnie 15K. We started at Downtown Disney and ran through the golf course, so we didn't get the magic of the parks either. It didn't matter! I was thrilled to 1) be running my first 5k, and 2) be running a Disney event. 14 half marathons and 6 marathons later... I'm seriously addicted. Be forewarned!

Okay, just saw a pic of the medal posted on facebook and SO want to do this race! I did the Princess in February and loved it! Only problem is, the 29th is our check out day - would we be finished the race and back to the hotel in time for ME (we have a 2 pm flight to Canada)? Also, how complicated will it be to get to and from the race from CSR, which is not a host resort? I know the traffic to and from the Princess was crazy!

Perhaps you could take a taxi to and from the race to expedite your time. Since the race start is early, you should be finished in time to get back and have a quick shower before an 11:00 pickup for ME. It would be close, but if you plan well it should be fine.

That's what I was thinking - the taxi thing - but remember how crazy the traffic was for the Princess. Because we used Disney transportation, I don't know if they had a special place for taxis- but do remember people talking about how long they had to sit in private vehicles to get out of the parking lot. I could always take the Disney transportation to one of the host resorts and grab a taxi to CSR from there.

I also don't remember what our ME pick up time was, I just know that they had us at the airport way ahead of time - even before they would let us check in! I'm going to have to figure out the taxi and ME thing and then decide - I might want the medal but it would not be worth missing our flight home :rotfl:

I might ask some questions over on the Princess thread - that race and their family 5k have been done now for 4 years, so someone there might know how the 5k works.

Thanks for your input!

Can you switch for the last night to whichever mod is a host?

Time wise, you will be done by 8 at the very latest. The traffic is not nearly as bad as for the Princess. There will be probably around 5000 runners (the Marathon weekend 5k was record breaking at 8000) versus the 20000 plus spectators for the Princess.

I'm planning on taking a taxi too. I don't have anything else scheduled that day, so am not worried about timing, but about what time should I plan to get a taxi in the morning? I'll be staying at Pop if that makes any difference. I was thinking no later then 6:00 AM, but should I plan on leaving even earlier?

You should be fine. Pop is quite literally down the street from WWOS.

I would like to echo what JCH said. The 5K is much smaller in size and will be completely wrapped up by 8.

Taking a taxi back to your resort will still give you PLENTY of time to freshen up and get last minute things packed up before having to head for ME.

Come and have fun!

My wife and I will also be doing this 5k.

It's the first "real" 5K that we've ever done. I'm training for it indoors on a treadmill right now (I'm about halfway ready.) I'm training at about a 15 minute mile pace (actually, a bit faster than that), and as I get closer to the date, I'm going to start training outdoors as well. (It's too hot in Dallas right now--it has been getting up to 105 degrees recently.)

My question is: has the map been released yet? Can anyone shed any light on how uphill the course may be?

Thanks for your help!

While poking around on the Internet, I came across this map...

...it looks like if you start at WWoS, and head towards the end, it looks like that's about 3.1 miles... That may be the course.

So, I did it! I just signed up for the Happy Haunted 5K - it will be my first 5K since college....long time ago. Now married, 3 kids, two dogs, and added weight, I am hopeful that some of what I remember from running in college will come back to me as I get ready for this! I will be 40 one month before the race, so it's sort of a milestone event for me - something to commemorate the big 40.

We leave on our cruise the day after, so I am excited for that as well. DH is not a runner at all, in fact he believes you should only run if someone is chasing you, so I will be running this alone - anyone else? My kids are interested in running the kid races, so I think we will make it a family event day :)

Can someone tell me how the taxi's at Disney work? I'll be staying at Pop so I'll need to take a taxi to get to and from the race right? Do you have to call in advance to line one up or are they there waiting for people like in Vegas? Sorry if this is a silly question- I've only taken a taxi in vegas before!

Just go to where the DME bus stop is and there's a CM there that will call a taxi over that's waiting in the parking lot.

Cool!!!! That makes me so much more excited! I started to try to think of my outfit last night hoping that would be the case!!
