Happy Haunted 5K Trail Run - 2013

It's not really a trail; it's more like a gravel road. If you have weak ankles or trouble with lateral moves in your knees, you might want to tape up, but honestly, it will be a non-issue for most people. You can always slow down and walk it; it's not a timed event anyway - it's a fun run! :cool1:

This helps..thanks! :thumbsup2

I'm a running newbie, so I have a general running question (might be a dumb question, but chalk it up to my newbie-ness!) :) I've noticed that my times vary based on what time of day I'm running. Usually during the week I have to get out to run around 5am but on the weekends I run around 7am. My weekend times have consistently been better than my weekday times and I'm able to run further. I don't do anything else differently...has anyone else experienced this?

Lot's of variables could enter into the equation....

- Do you eat or drink anything different for the weekend? a glass of water or coffee could make a slight difference
- I assume you are up and out the door during the week; do you amble around a bit on the weekend? Just being up and moving a bit is a slight warm up for the body and could possibly create some difference in the first part of the run.
- The most obvious one is the difference in light. Running in the dark forces a little slower run.

There are many more but this is what came to mind quickly

Usually I get up in the morning and go right out for a run, otherwise I lose my motivation or get distracted. I can sleep a bit later on the weekends, hence the later start time.Never really thought about the difference in light but that's probably a big factor. I just didn't realize that only a two hour start time could make a difference.

Ok, next question! We were going to stay on-site the night before the 5k, but due to DS's band commitment, we might be driving over early the morning of. We live around 40 minutes away so it's not a super major drive, but what time should we be pulling into the ESPN parking lot to avoid traffic problems and still make it in plenty of time for the race? Would a 6:30am arrival be ok?

My husband and I are running this race. Thanks for the video of the course!

How bad is the parking situation usually for these races? Debating if we should take the bus from the Poly early morning or just drive ourselves.

ESPN WWoS has a lot of parking... There are two lots, the paved lot closest to the complex and the dirt overflow east of Victory Way. Knowing how Disney crowds tend to go, I would shoot for the middle of the busing window or 0600. I do believe that 0630 is manageable, but you may have a nice walk to the start.

The race starts in the field just down the slope from the Jostens Center, which is maybe a 5-10 minute walk from the parking lots.

Hope this helps.

Great info...thanks! :)

Does anyone know how to find out corral placement before the race? Thanks!

Usually, the 5k corral assignments are not published pre-race. There will be a letter on your bib noting the placement.

I'll be there with my BFF in tow. We'll be sporting skull shirts & POTC bandana's. Would love to do a costume but, in THIS HEAT?! Uh... no.

Started "running" this year. (more like run/walk) and did a 5K in April. Still not trained enough to do 3 miles straight but, I am hoping to stay motivated and do the TOT10 next year.

I am excited! Nothing better than joining the RunDisney crew AND then hitting Food and Wine. Hopefully the weather behaves and we can have a great weekend. :)

Just want to thank everyone for all the good information...as a newbie, I really appreciate it! :)

Have a great time. You will be amazed at what you have been missing all these years. This sport can be addicting.

Is it possible to buy a bib this late? I was supposed to buy one earlier but didn't have the funds.

I picked up my packet today..I have to say that the organization level was wonderful. I'm totally new to this and I had no trouble figuring out what I needed to do. Great job Disney!

Now, I am a bit nervous..anyone else?

Does anyone know how many corrals there are? I am in E and was wondering if there were any after me. Thanks!

Good Morning!

Just wanted to pop in and say have a great race. We are about to leave the house. The weather feels a little stickier than earlier in the week. I am betting that as sunrise nears the temps will fall just a little more.

If this is your first race ever - WELCOME to the club. The difference between a runner and jogger is an entry form. Today, you all are runners - yes, even those who walk. Go into the race with your eyes wide open and a smile on your face.

The minimum pace is 16 mm. No worries, this is a fun run. The course looks great. There is a small stretch along a gravelly road where footing may feel off. Shorten your stride in these areas - this will keep you from planting your heal as hard.

Wear your medallion with pride this weekend. As an irregular Disney 5k runner, I will tell you that there are hundreds of folks in the park who will want to learn about your race.

Well “Everybody neat and pretty? Then on with the show!,”

Good Luck
