The Monster House kids plus Mater and Lighting looked sad
I thought it was a weak year for Hollywood's animated films, Cars included.
How come Ice Age 2, Over the Hedge, or Flushed Away wherent nominated. I liked those more than the ones that where nominated.
The Academy rewards film for quality. Not for popularity or name.
Really?
And you do you think that Melissa Etheridge's "I need to wake up" was a better quality song than any of the three Dreamgirls songs?
Dreamgirls was a great film and I'm glad Jennifer Hudson won. I would assume by your question that you were unhappy that Dreamgirls didn't win Best Song. Correct?
You're not the only person on this thread. It's not an "excuse". I don't have a vested interest either way, so why would I need an excuse?
Who's naive here? "Cars" was easily the more popular film and it DIDN'T WIN!However, to think that politics/popularity did not enter into the decisions of the Academy seems a little naive.
Anyone else think if Cars ran on ethanol it would have won??![]()
I don't think the Academy should have a Best Animated Feature Film category at all. The heyday of animation is long gone. Just because there are larger quantities of animated films doesn't mean they are Oscar worthy and deserve a category. Special Oscars for major achievement is fine. Otherwise, this is just a waste of time and gold. All of Walt Disney's animation oscars were for special achievements. They didn't have a category when he was around. There will probably never be another film like Beauty and the Beast that gets nominated for best picture. But even after that historic achievement, it was another decade before the animated feature category was created.
The best song cagegory usually goes to the BEST SONG. And many of these winners are singer/songwriters. I had never heard the Etheridge song prior to last night. I like James Taylor but don't like the Cars song. I liked the Dreamgirls songs, and did think they were the favorites. But I disagree that Melissa won the award because of the "green" feel of the show. That's just an excuse for those who disagree with the outcome of the show.
II didn't care much for Cars. I liked it somewhat better when it was called "Doc Hollywood" and starred Michael J. Fox, but Happy Feet touched my heart.
