Today is the official birthday 10/1/71 of the Walt Disney world resort. Everything that has been there since opening day is 42 years old today!

Who was there when Disney world opened?

When was your first trip?

Did anyone of you go to the 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, etc... Anniversary?

Who plans on going in eights years to the 50th? I sure do!

My first trip was in 1975 when I was 5 years old. I've been many more times, but specifically remember being there on my honeymoon in `97 when the castle was still all done in bubble gum pink for their 25th. We were there in 2011 for the 40th as well... Other than some merchandise, I don't remember anything big going on for that one.

Our first trip was Christmas of 1971. We rented a pop-up and drove from PA. I was 2 so i just remember being sick and my mom hosing me off in front of the trailer. :confused3 It is a shame Walt never got to see Disney World completed.

I was there for the 25 year anniversary with the "Castle Cake". I thought it was so cool! I know it has been a subject of much debate since. I plan on going to the 50 year party also! I can't believe it's only 8 years away!

My First trip to WDW was in 1988 when I was 15 years old.

We were there in 2011 and our last day was on October 1st so we were there for the 40th Anniversary. We had an early ADR at Crystal Palace that morning so when we went in the park we got a 40th Anniversary Button and a special map. Other than that though I didn't see anything really special going on at the park.

I would love to be there for the 50th Anniversary. I bet that will be much bigger. :)

I was there for the 40th also, I was hoping for something a bit more for such a special day.

I would expect something big for the 50th atleast I would hope so. This past year they even did something for 15 years of AK so I would assume 50 years of WDW would be a huge.

We were there for the 20th and 25th. I wasn't a fan of the cake castle. I bought a special edition watch for both and have no idea if they're worth anything more than the purchase price.

I would think going to the 50th would be a blast as long as it's done up right and they don't double the rates.

When we were leaving Magic Kingdom yesterday, a gentleman CM stopped us and told us that it was WDW's birthday. He had a binder with him and showed us some memorabilia type stuff, original ticket prices and such. It was pretty neat!

I was there for the 25th. I still have a t-shirt with the original castle on the back that says "that was then" and the cake castle on the front that says "this is now". For such an old shirt it has held up great, I still sleep in it! I have pictures of the cake castle that were taken from the old skyway ride too. I thought it was adorable but I can understand how people who were on their once-in-a-lifetime trip may have been disappointed not to see the case in its original beauty.

I will absolutely be at the 50th birthday celebration!!!

I was there for one of the birthdays! I dont remember which one, but i have a pin from it and a picture of me and Mickey in his dressing room!

We honeymooned in November, 1971 and have returned for a few anniversaries.
Will be there in 3 weeks.

We have already started a little savings fund for going back for WDW's 50th Anniversary! We want that year to be our most luxurious visit yet!! :D
