This has been an unusual birthday in SO many ways. My partner and I are in the process of moving to Asheville NC. Lisa has gone ahead to do a month long training for her new job and is not here to celebrate with me today. We celebrated in style on Wednesday by going to dinner and to see the Broadway Show " Wicked." Today I woke up feeling very lonely and alone. At work I was showered with cards and birthday wishes....more than usual. While it was a bit weird, it was also SO welcome. Then during my last break, my immediate co-workers brought out a cake...on to the sales floor, which is normally a no-no, but today they made an exception. It was so cool. I am a bit on the silly side and wore a crown all day and many of our customers asked why. I told them and received many birthday wishes from them as well. I am celebrating with a bunch of my friends tomorrow, but tonite I went to the restaurant that Lisa and I eat at each and every Saturday night. They had balloons on our table and comped my meal!!!!! I was truly surprised. It is nice to know that in a city like NYC you can create truly caring "community." I only wish that Lisa could have been here to share it with me.
