Happy anniversary to Max!

It’s one year ago today that we took our puppy, Max, home. He was 7 weeks old then and weighed 11 pounds; now he weighs 85 pounds. That’s a whole lotta puppy!

Anyway, when we got him, I was just hoping that I wouldn’t hate him and having a dog (and that he wouldn’t make a mess of my house). But guess what? I love this crazy dog! He’s like my baby.

He’s mostly Labrador retriever, with some Rottweiler thrown in to make him a good guard dog. Because he’s a mutt, we’re hoping he stays as healthy as he has been so far. I think the biggest danger we face with him is the objects he eats. Sometimes I swear he’s part piranha—he’ll chew up and swallow just about anything.

Yesterday, I made a special anniversary dinner to celebrate. I made a prime rib (hopefully not from a mad cow) because he loves prime rib bones. Don’t worry—we take them away when he’s done stripping the meat. The look on his face when I gave him one last night was priceless! I never saw a happier dog.

So, happy anniversary, to my puppy! Love you, Maxidog! :)

That is so sweet. I haven't even picked birthdays for my dogs. :( (They were both found on the streets) I'm a bad mommy.

{FYI, human-grade beef often causes pancreatitis, which is very serious & sometimes deadly. Mammal meat is a big no-no. Stick with skinned poultry if you must give cooked meat. End of PSI.}

Wow, Doc, I never knew that about human-grade meat! I always figured dogs were carnivores, and meat is good for them. Heck, this dog has eaten roofing nails and shingles, then puked them up, none the worse for the wear.

But you know, Doc, you probably won't remember this, but I owe you big time for getting Max in the first place.

Before we got him, I posted here about wanting to buy a pure-bred lab, and you helped to talk me out of it.

And I'm so glad you did! Max is the perfect dog for us. I couldn't imagine having another dog I'd love as much.

Oh, and if you have access to a Costco, they have an unbelievably good deal on a gift stocking. I got Max one for Christmas, and it's a big hit. It came with 12 assorted treats and toys, and easily, any two items in it could cost $20 alone at a pet store.

Happy Anniversary Maxidog! May your life be filled with noselicks and tummyrubs!:jumping1:

What a sweet post! Happy anniversary to Max and congratulations on finding your perfect dog. :)

That is so great! I didn't remember that. (Of course, I go through that spiel a LOT.) That makes me feel so good. I also talked someone out of breeding their pet store Cocker Spaniel this week -- success!!! Can I quote you in future "advertisements"? Did you find him on www.petfinder.com ? :D

Sounds like Max found a great home!
It's so nice to see you around JJ:Pinkbounc

Uh oh....are you feeling angry yet?

Happy anniversary Max! :wave2:

Doc, I'm pretty sure you posted the petfinder website back then, but we wound up getting Max from our local gas station.

The mechanic had a "Free Puppies" sign up in the window. He had gotten a female lab to be a companion to his Rottie mix and didn't get them fixed in time. Max is from a litter of eight puppies. By the time we called the number on the sign, he and his big (and I mean BIG) brother were the only two left in the litter to be adopted. We chose Max because I was afraid the other puppy was going to grow into a giant. Max is hardly a small dog as it--I can't imagine how big his brother got.

Anyway, I've taken my car to this mechanic a couple of times since, and he's great. So not only did we find a wonderful dog, but we got ourselves an honest car mechanic in the deal.

BTW, no need to remind me to fix Max. We did that the day he turned 6 months old. He was getting a little hard to handle, if you know what I mean, so we had that taken care of quickly.

Awww, Happy anniversary to Max. And you too. :teeth:

Awww, how nice!

And its very nice to see you around here again! Youve been missed. Hope this year gives you more chances to stop by.

Hey, JJ, nice to see you again. :wave2: And happy anniversary to Max. Please stop by more often, JJ. Happy New Year.

What a great tribute to Max by his loyal owner!

I could have written, word for word, what you said about your fears of getting a dog. We've had our Bichon, Gibson, for almost two years (the anniversary is January 11th) and I cried the day we went to pick him up. Like you, I was afraid he'd destroy the house and I'd end up resenting the responsibility. Well, he did destroy some of the carpeting, but he also completely stole our hearts! He's cuter and sweeter than I could have ever imagined and I feel like he's so much more than a pet....I really think of him as my 4th child. (or 5th, if you count DH! ;) )

Happy Anniversary to Max! And it's nice to see you around here, JJ! :) :) :)

I'll 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) that it's great to see you posting again.

Congrats on getting a great dog Janice.
You can really tell how much you love him from your post. :)
