Happiness is a DisneyLAND BTMR Fastpass - 12/11 - The End! Parts 28-32 + Epilogue

I am having so much fun reading your TR! I had to take a double take when you said Disneyland - I have never read a DL TR before so this should be a great time. My DS25 just moved to L.A. in May and I miss him! I can't believe he hasn't visited the Mouse there - guess I'll have to take a trip out there and take him lol

Your pics are really great - aren't self portraits fun!! And congratulations on your new baby brother!!! :grouphug: I only had 5 kids - what a fantastic mom you have!

Hey, great installments! Love your story-telling style. You're very good at including details, and that's what makes it interesting. I'm glad you've been taking it slow. I haven't had a lot of free time, either, so I'm glad to see I haven't missed too much ;) . I had no idea IN and Out was a Christian establishment! That's awesome. I've alway enjoyed that place when we go on road trips. Too bad we don't have one here in Alaska.
Great pics in the second installment. Well, in both installments. You remind me so much of my 16-year-old little sister. You sound like her, and even look like her.
Anyway, looking forward to more! No hurry!

Thank you all for the comments! :) It's nice to know that someone is reading this, lol!

After taking dozens of useless-to-everyone-else-but-us people pics and whatnot, we jumped into our dazzlingly blue car and headed through the mountains to M-V!

Our first stop was for lunch at a new hot-dog joint called Portillos.

There is quite the story behind this, obviously.

Last fall, back when Mom and dad were actively searching for a house for us out here in Chicago, they were introduced to a Midwest-only chain called Portillos. My dad promptly christened it the best hot dog ever, and that's saying a lot. They loved the theming and the food, and were excited to introduce it to us kids once we moved. In fact, it was the first stop we made once entering our new city when we moved, even before we got to see our new house.

Anyway, before we had moved, my parents had noticed that Portillos was putting one of their restaurants in Buena Park, which is where Knotts Berry Farm is and very close to Disneyland. It wasn't until after we moved, however, did we find out that not only did they put one in Buena Park, but they were building one right smack dab in our old city as well! Right in a place that we frequented often. It's funny to think that we probably saw them building it but never realized (or cared) what it was. Funny how things go, huh?

Anyway, so we had to take Grandma and Becks there to treat them to little piece of Chicago, so that's where we went for lunch!

May-14th-California-040.jpg

Portillos! Yay!

May-14th-California-042.jpg

This is me trying to eat lady-like. It's really hard to do with a hot dog, lol!

May-14th-California-043.jpg

Becks loved her meal, as you can see!

May-14th-California-044.jpg

As did Grandma! She was the only one who got a real Chicago hot dog, I think. Becks and I don't like all kinds of stuff on ours, so we just got plain with ketchup and mustard.

May-14th-California-045.jpg

The GIGANTIC root beer mom got me, lol. And you expect me to drink all that? Again, trying to be a lady whilst being photographed while eating!

May-14th-California-046.jpg

Mom likes her soda too!

May-14th-California-047.jpg

Posing outside. It was so fun to visit there; like a little home away from home! ;)

After eating, we headed over to Ross, a consignment store that was quite near by. They don't have one of these or actually any type of equivalent out in Chicago, and mom really missed the great deals she used to get. So obviously, we had to go shopping! I've known some people who take extra suitcases when they travel out west just so they can load up on clothes at stores like Ross!

May-14th-California-049.jpg

Love ya Ross! We missed you tons! I ended up getting some shoes and a cute shirt that I wore later on in the trip.

May-14th-California-051.jpg

The big mountain that you can see from pretty much anywhere in the city. We used to call it "Mom's Mountain", because of the M.

After leaving Ross, we stopped at one other store before heading for our old neighborhood, and, of course, our old house.

Mom initially didn't even want to go, except that we needed to return a garage door opener that we had accidentally taken with us. Personally, mom loves California and never would have left if we could have found a larger house closer to our church out there. But we couldn't, so it was off to Chicago for us. Anyway, I was curious to see what the new owners had done to the place and see just how things compared to our new digs in the Midwest.

May-14th-California-053.jpg

Thar she is!

It was interesting to go back and see how things had changed. The new owners had had some yard work done and I could see that they had some some interior designing as well. I have to say though that my favorite "change" was the swing set; they painted it in blue, red and green. It was so weird seeing it all decked out like that!

After returning the garage door opening to the owner (no, we didn';t try to use it. ;) ) we bid our farewells and left.

We were nearly done with our sightseeing around town, but we had one more stop to make before we went home. We went to WinCo, a big bulk store that was put it not too long before we left California, and stocked up on snacks and treats for our Disneyland trip. Man, I miss buying food in bulk. *sniff* Bekah and I also grabbed dinner there, since Grandpa was taking us to church that night and we wouldn't have time to eat once we got home.

Once we did get home, it was rush, rush, rush to get cleaned up, dressed and out the door. I had a great time visiting the folks at the church in Palm Springs, and it was great to get to see the area again; I didn't think I'd be able to on this trip.

After church, we went home and promptly crashed. Sleep didn't come as easy this time as it had the night before, but it was still very good! I was excited to see what the next day would bring!

Next Up: Last day before DL, I PROMISE

Woot, I'm churning 'em out! :D

Today is not a very picture heavy day, for some reason...I guess I just didn't take that many photos, plus we didn't spend as much time out as we had the previous day.

Let's see. We woke up, puttered about, Becks and I watched TV, and eventually once everyone was ready we (everyone, including Grandpa) climbed into our blue car and headed through the mountains. We were going to Old Spaghetti Factory!

Now, if you don't know what OSF is, it's a fabulous Italian restaurant that's focal point is a red trolley in the middle of one of the dining rooms that you can eat in. They have them all over the US but sadly, do not have one in Illinois. I know...GASP! We're quite gutted, as you can imagine. The nearest one is in St. Louis. :( But anyway, there was one in Riverside, not too far from where we used to live, so we were going to go there for lunch! Yay!

While waiting for our table, I took out my camera and took a few photos.

May-15-california-002.jpg

Here's Becka in one of the amazingly plush chairs/sofa/throne thingies that they have in the lobby. I love the decorating at these places, plus they like to use buildings that have previous history and transform it to a posh restaurant. For instance, this particular one used to be an orange packing house, and you can tell. I've also been in ones that used to be train depots and schools. They like to use the previous history as a decorating focal point, so each restaurant is lovely and intriguing!

May-15-california-003.jpg

Here's me in said plush chair, and behind me is the kid play area where I spent many happy hours with my siblings waiting for our tables. When you have such a large family as us, you get used to having to wait a bit for a table large enough to seat you all. We really appreciated this particular kid table; they had a TV and would show random Disney flicks such as Tarzan 2 and 101 Dalmatians (the new one).

May-15-california-004.jpg

Here's mom and I; she's sitting in this enormous "throne" that was reeeely tall. You can't see it, but it was.

We ended having up quite a nice meal, but it wasn't quite what we had expected. There was something off about it, and I couldn't put my finger on it. We guessed that they were under new management, because the menus and prices were different and more confusing. The food was the same, but things were just a tad bit different and I perferred the old style. But it was still a great meal; just not what we had hoped.

Once finished, we went outside and mom wanted some pics to prove that we had been there, lol.

May-15-california-005.jpg

Here's Becks, Grandma, Grandpa and I posing in front of the lovely ashtray; er, I meant sign!

May-15-california-007.jpg

Here's us again, except mom instead of myself...hey, someone had to take the pictures!

After we left, we decided to make a stop by Gless Ranch, a local orange grower, to pick up some oranges to take back to Chicago with us.

May-15-california-008.jpg

Here's mom by a bunch of oranges. Don't you love the vibrant colors? Mom's shirt even matches, lol.

May-15-california-009.jpg

Becks with the oranges we bought. Yummy!

May-15-california-010.jpg

Me and Becks. I'm not a huge orange person; I guess having them around so much I never really appreciated them. But, I do like a good orange every now and then, especially when I'm desperatly trying not to get sick.

May-15-california-011.jpg

And one more close-up to send you off!

After we got what we wanted at Gless, we headed back home.

We didn't really anything much for the rest of the day. Mostly, Grandma and Grandpa figured out what they were doing for the next few days (were they coming to Disneyland, were they not, was Becka coming, was she not, etc.) and mom and I packed. Since we were going to have a pretty busy Friday-Sunday, mom decided to pack what we needed for those days in one suitcase and the rest of our stuff in the other, so we only had to lug around one suitcase into hotels. I hated having my stuff all mixed up and disorganized, but it was nice to only take one suitcase in at night. I was having enough trouble juggling all our stuff as it was!

While I was repacking our stuff, I pulled out my Narnia movie companion book and immedietly knew something was not right. What was it?

Bear with me; a bit of Narnia lore coming. ;)

Looooong before we had left for our California trip, I bought the Prince Caspian Movie Companion so I would have something to read on the airplane. However, since it was just chuck-full of movie spoilers and I know that while the spirit may be willing the flesh is weak, I wrapped the book up in saran wrap to ensure that I wouldn't be peeking at the pages before I saw the movie.

Here's a photo of what it looked like...my dad thought it was hilarious.

53400025.jpg

Sorry the quality is so bad. I could not get the supid camera to cooperate!

Anyway, I took the book, exactly like that, in my suitcase with me.

So. I knew about luggage searches (I've had it happen to me before) and had been curious to see if my suitcase had been searched this time, but when I opened it up I didn't see the slip of paper so I figured I hadn't been.

However, when I was repacking for the weekend, I took out my movie companion and thought, hmmm, something is not quite right.

It was completely unwrapped!

Confused, I searched through my closed a bit more carefully. Sure enough, there was the little piece of paper which I had somehow overlooked. I guess the airline security thought my book looked threateningly enough to be unwrapped and thumbed through, lol! I also had a wrapped present from my sister to Jody (Hoday) but oddly enough it had not been unwrapped.

Anyway, I thought that was weird.

Enough already!

We got out all our stuff for the next day, since we'd be leaving for Disneyland early, and I took a shower and washed my hair. When it was dry, we decided to curl it since my hair is pretty wild and won't stay put and un-frizzy unless heat has been applied to it. The curls were pretty tight when mom was done, but I knew that after I slept in it and brushed it out again the next morning, it'd soften down and would be quite nice.

So we all went to bed early, and I kept having dreams about Disneyland and Narnia. I was SO excited to be going back!

Up Next: Magic and Memories at DISNEYLAND!!!

Ok, so lame title. But who cares, I'M GOING TO DISNEYLAND!!!!!! :D

While sleep came relatively quickly the night before, I was in that "vacation" mode where you dream the thing that you are anticipating. Not only was I super excited about going to Disneyland, but Prince Caspian, the 2nd Narnia movie and something I had been waiting years for was coming out as well, and therein lies the rub!

Since we were planning on spending all day at DLR and doing the nighttime entertainment, there was going to be no time to see PC that day. At all. I was going to have to wait until Saturday, when mom and I would be going to see it with a large group of Narniawebbers (people on the site that I'm on) at the El Capitan. While I was excited to be going to see it in a special theater and of course excited to be going to Disneyland, the jitters were setting in and at times I wasn't sure if I could wait a whole day to see the movie! I know I printed up a list of showtimes at the AMC in Downtown Disney just in case I couldn't stand it any longer and had to take an extended break during the middle of the day. ;)

Anyway, so I'm dreaming Narnia, and I wake up hours before my alarm is supposed to go off because I'm terrified that I'm going to miss it and we're going to get a late start. Eventually I just get up and start getting ready for the day.

At this point I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeely hoping that Disneyland provides to a sufficient diversion from Buh-Narnia, as my little brother calls it, or I'm going to go CRAZY.

Since I was the first one up, I took the time to take a picture of myself with some kiwis (in honor of all my New Zealand friends, lol).

May-16-Disneyland-006.jpg

Look, Tinkerbell is kissing my arm! :lamo:

Everyone else was soon ready and Mom, Grandma, Becks and I left around 8. Grandpa would be joining us later in the day because he had a golf tournament that morning or something of that ilk.

Since I know you all want to get to the exciting stuff, I'll skip over the whole boring drive and just get to the part where we get to Disneyland! :D

May-16-Disneyland-007.jpg

I am SHOCKED that I was able to get this picture looking this good, considering that we were in a moving car and I wasn't really planning on taking it; it was sort of done offhand.

We decided to try the Lion King parking lot first, but as we suspected they directed us to the parking structure. Now, since we were last in California, my Grandma has acquired a temporary handicap pass because of some knee problems she'd been having. Apparently it had gotten a lot worse since we'd left California and anyway, she had a handicap card and couldn't walk long distances. So, obviously, we got to park in the front of the first level! Which oddly enough, requires more of a walk than the front of an upper level would. No elevator or escalator required, but you have to walk further.

Anyhoo.

May-16-Disneyland-008.jpg

Our number...Chip'n'Dale, yeah baby!

May-16-Disneyland-011.jpg

Pretty blue, pretty blue.

We get to the trams and there's about a million and a half people waiting there. I can also see a few school groups which makes me quake in my boots; I'm not a fan of large groups of non-adults running around and extending ride lines. Good thing I wasn't planning on doing many, if any, rides today! I could see that the park was going to be preeeetttty busy.

Whilst waiting in line, I snapped a few photos.

May-16-Disneyland-012.jpg

Becks, with her Tinkerbell shirt...

May-16-Disneyland-016.jpg

And me, with mine (although you can't see it in this picture). Notice the sweater. I live in California my whole life but when I move to Illinois for six months, I suddenly can't shake the sweater habit. Hmm, I wonder why? Either way, it was pretty pointless bringing it; there was no way I was going to need it!

We eventually boarded the tram and rode to Downtown Disney. I know a lot of people don't like the trams but I love them...it's like the first ride of the day, plus it's fun to zip along and get a nice cool wind.

Once there, we got our bags inspected and headed to the Esplanade. We headed to the ticket booths first because I needed to buy a blackout ticket because my AP wasn't good on this day.

After a brief wait we get up to the window and I make my request.

"For five dollars more you can upgrade to Southern California status; would you like to do that?"

Um, sure, why not?

So the CM goes through the process of upgrading my pass and now I'm starting to get worried...man, I sure hope I don't have to go to the Bank on Main St. and get my photo retaken because that will take up a CHUNK of time and for that matter I'd just like my blackout tix, thank you very much.

So I was very relieved when he simply copied my old pass and put it on a brand new card, handed it to me and wished me a good day! Now, that wasn't so bad. And while upgrading didn't necessarily give me any more perks than my old AP did, I uh, got a new card! And more days! Which, in retrospect, if I had thought of the option of upgrading before the trip, it's possible I may have reconstructed the Disneyland days around that, since I would have had more options. Oh, well.

After having taken care of that, we headed up to the Disneyland turnstiles. We had some concern going in due to the tickets that my Grandpa bought over the computer. They were from Disneyland's website, but they were both 2-day hopper Southern California rates, and Becks does not carry a California ID card. We were worried that if they ID'd her, they wouldn't let her in with that ticket. Grandpa had tried to get her the regular ticket (which was the same price as the SoCal 2day hoppers, only with one day), but the computer hadn't let them. We hoped that if they wouldn't let her in with the SoCal ticket, they would be able to exchange it for a regular one with no fuss since they were the same price.

Anyway, after all that drama, they didn't even check and she got right through. All that worry for nothing! :lamo: ;)

The band was doing a little show with Alice and the Mad Hatter out front, and Grandma and Becks stopped to watch while Mom got the wheelchair and me and my little tail took off for Big Thunder Mountain.

So I could ride? Ooooh no.

As the title of this TR has suggested, I have a thing for FastPasses. I started collecting them quite by accident back when we went quite often, and amassed quite a stack of them. Some of the more elusive FP's were harder to get and occasionally I had to plan my time around them. Since I was a SoCal Select AP holder, I pretty much could only go during weekdays, with the occasional Friday, and during off-season a few FP machines do not run on weekdays. For the DCA side, Grizzly, Tower of Terror and Mulholland Madness were particularly hard to get; I was only there on ONE night that they were offered. At Disneyland, Autopia and Big Thunder Mountain were the hard ones to catch. I succeeded in getting Autopia (although it has stuff written on it...I had hoped to replace it on this trip, but I uh, forgot. ), but that crazy Big Thunder Mountain FP always alluded me.

But not this time, no sir! I was DETERMINED to get that FP or else. Which is why first thing after getting into Disneyland, I did my speed-walk down Main Street towards Frontierland. I was NOT taking ANY chances this time. I had my sights set on those little slips of paper and I had 'em set big.

So did I get the FP of my dreams?

SUCCESS!!!

May-16-Disneyland-020.jpg

Here's me posing with my long-awaited treasures. You'd never know it, but I was getting some extremely weird looks while I was taking these photos. :lamo: I mean, what idiot goes spastic over a FastPass!?!?!?!?! Really, come on!

I couldn't close this installment without giving you some photos of my new, updated collection. Pretend like you care! ;)

Oooh, pretty!

A close up.

That's all for today, folks! Thank you and see you soon with more Disneyland goodness! :D

Up Next: "She called me a Princess..."

Yeeeeouch!

Oy vey, it's been a long time since I posted here. What can I say? I was busy, I've been watching the Olympics, there was a lion in the street...yeah, I'm sure you've heard it all.

Anyway, I'm working on this next post, and I promise you that I WILL get this TR done soon! Unfortunately my schedule is getting busier, not less busy, as the weeks go by, so maybe that will be a good motivation to get this thing finished and done with before I get insanely busy. I always looked with a bit of scorn at those who took months, nay, even a year, to finish their TR; now I can realistically see the same thing happening to me. :scared1:

So, update coming SOON. Thank you all for your patience; I'd be shocked if there's any readers left!

I just read your report and anxiously awaiting more!

Wow! Your mom was lucky to be able to fly so late in her pregnancy - I couldn't fly after 29 weeks! How is 'the boy' doing?

When I last left you, I had just secured the long-sought-after Big Thunder Mountain FastPass, and was now heading back to Main Street to meet back up with my mom, grandma and cousin Becks, who were in the process of renting a wheelchair. Since my mom was pregnant and my grandma had knee problems, we would take it easy and they could swap out using the wheelchair. Really, I was the only one who could push it...Grandpa was not there yet, and even if he was he couldn't have since he has lung issues, and while Becks could provide the power, I'm not necessarily sure I would trust her steering abilities. ;)

Anyway, so I met back up with them, and I took Becks over to City Hall to get her First Visit button.

May-16-Disneyland-022.jpg

She loved that thing!

Afterwards, we headed over to the Emporium. I wanted to check for the Prince Caspian pins, and Becks wanted to buy a souvenier with her money.

We went in and I did find the pins, but they didn't have the particular one that I wanted. I checked EVERY pin shop during our three day stay at Disneyland, and of all the pins that were released, there were only three to choose from. I ended up getting the Opening Day pin later; this is what it looks like.

100_3184.jpg

The writing is a bit hard to read, but it says "Prince Caspian, Opening Day 2008".

Becks ended up buying a Tinkerbell keychain, and when we were done in the store we went outside because mom wanted some pictures taken in front of the Main Street window(s).

May-16-Disneyland-023.jpg

Mom

May-16-Disneyland-025.jpg

Mom again.

May-16-Disneyland-026.jpg

Me and Becks

May-16-Disneyland-027.jpg

And mom, Grandma and Becks.

After we were done with our little photo-shoot, we hopped over to DCA so we could see the offerings. DCA had a bunch of shows that we figured Becks would be interested in, so off to California-within-California it was.

Our plan was to grab something to eat, and then catch the first showing of Aladdin so we would have the rest of the day to do whatever we wanted. I HATE being confined by set times when it comes to Disneyland...no "be here by such-and-such time". I prefer to "wing" it!

Mom, Gram and Becks found a place to sit near the entrance, and I hot-footed it over to the Bay Area so I could get mom a salad at our favorite DCA eatery, the Pacific Warf Cafe. This would be a long-standing theme to the entire day and to some extent, our whole trip...mom and Gram are not the quickest walkers, and I HATE wasting time, so inevitably if something needed to be gotten, checked, or seen, I would run ahead by myself, do the task, and then come back. I didn't mind doing it and it did save time, but I tell you, my feet were practically DEAD by the end of the day. Oh well, I'm young, right? ;)

Oh yeah, I forgot. When I was in line to order at the PWC, I noticed that they had a new menu on the salad, a Asian chicken salad inspired by the recent Food and Wine festival. Since I know mom LOVES Asian chicken salad, I called her up and asked her if she wanted it...sure enough, she did! And it was practically the only thing she would eat in the park that day, haha.

So I came back with the food for mom and got an ice cream to cool down after all that speed-walking.

By this time it was a bit too late to be one of the first people in line for the earliest showing of Aladdin, so we opted to skip out and get there early for the next showing. Since we had a little extra time, we thought Becks would enjoy the "Drawn to the Magic" show, so we headed over to the ampitheater where it was located.

We got there a bit early, and I noticed there was what appeared to be a high school choral group up on stage doing their thing. So we sat down and waited for them to finish so the show would start. The music was very nice, but after minute after minute ticked by, I was getting more and more confused. Where was the show?

Finally they left, quite a bit after the show was scheduled to start, but it didn't look like the CM's were setting the stage up for the Drawn to the Magic show. So I went up to one of the CM's and asked him when the show would be starting.

"Oh, the Drawn to the Magic show is on Hollywood Blv. today."

Say what?

We had totally missed the little note on the Schedule that said that the show would be moved around on certain days in order to accommodate special entertainment. Whoooooooooops! So we ran out to the street, which ironically was just a few yards away but separated by a facade.

The show was already in progress, but Becks and I worked our way through the throng anyway...if my hunch was correct, there would be face and costumed characters at the end of the show due to it being a high-attendance day, and I knew Becks would love to see them. I scanned the papers that the artists were "drawing". Cinderella, Woody and of course, Mickey. Great line-up! If we were lucky, there would even be a meet-and-greet at the end.

And sure enough, just at the right moment during the show, who showed up but the characters! Becks was so excited. When the show was done, I waited to see if they would form a line for a meet-and-greet, but they just took random kid's hands and went inside the Animation building. I figured we had nothing to lose by following them in there. So I grabbed Beck's hand and in we went!

Yay! They were having kids line up! I asked Becks which character she wanted to meet the most, in case we couldn't catch more than one. She said Cinderella. So we dived into that line; the second group. Becks didn't quite understand the rules at first and went straight to Cinderella, but I explained to her that there was another group in front of us and that we needed to wait. That was fine with her.

So then it was her turn. I let Becks go ahead so I could take the photos.

May-16-Disneyland-028.jpg

Becks meeting Cinderella. I wasn't close enough to hear what they said.

May-16-Disneyland-029.jpg

Smile!

When Becks came back, she was practically glowing with excitement.

"Did you hear what she called me?"

I answered no.

"Cinderella called me a Princess. A real Princess!"

And they say that the Disney parks are practically devoid of any pixie dust nowadays!

If I had to pick one thing, I would say that this was definitely Beck's highlight of the whole trip. She kept repeating that all day to anyone who would listen. "Guess what, Cinderella said I was a Princess!". It was adorably sweet.

The lines for the other characters were not too long yet, so we determined that the Main Mouse was second on our priority list, and jumped into that line. By this time my mom had followed us inside to see what we were doing, and she decided she wanted a pic with Mickey too!

May-16-Disneyland-030.jpg

Becks and the Mouse

May-16-Disneyland-031.jpg

Me, Mickey and Becks. I'm not a touchy-feely-let's-have-a-hug kind of person, so I rarely do character shoots. But I make an exception once in a while, lol.

May-16-Disneyland-032.jpg

Mom, Mickey, and Baby Benjy! Yet to be unveiled. ;)

After we were done with the characters, we still had some time to kill before it was time to line up for Aladdin, so I elected to take Becks to the Animation Studio (not it's name; it's called something else) to draw a character, since she loves to draw.

May-16-Disneyland-036.jpg

Here's us waiting in line...

May-16-Disneyland-038-1.jpg

And here's my finished product. As you can see, the subject was Daisy Duck, which coincidentally enough, I'd done before. I have a bad habit of making my preliminary drawings too large, so by the end I'm always running up into the border. Oh well!

Next up: Help, I think I've lost my Grandpa!

Previously on Happiness is a Disneyland BTMRR FastPass: The group gets fooled, Becks is a Princess, and Asile can't draw for beans.

-----

Back to present time. Once we were done at the Animation Studio, we decided to head over to the Hyperion Theater to stake out our place in line for the next showing of Aladdin.

We were quite early, so Becks, Gram and I stood (or sat) in line, and Mom went to sit in a shaded area that they were letting people who couldn't stand in the sun sit (pregnant ladies get perks!)

May-16-Disneyland-040.jpg

Ugly self-portrait. Notice how sweaty and disheveled I am. It was pretty warm that day, but there was a breeze blowing and if you were in the shade, it was quite bearable.

May-16-Disneyland-041.jpg

Becks. "I don't sit on the ground", says she. Fine, suit yourself!

May-16-Disneyland-042.jpg

Grams. Thanks for providing a nice shadow for me to sit in with your wheelchair, Gramma!

May-16-Disneyland-044.jpg

Mom in her shaded glory. There were quite a few people taking advantage of the shade that day, namely elderly people and moms with very young kids.

We waited for about 45 minutes, and then were let into the theater. Since we had a wheelchair, we figured mom and Grams could sit in the Handicap seating on the main level, while Becks and I would try and find a seat closer to the stage. But, the seating attendant said we could all sit in Handicap, so we did just that...they're actually very nice seats.

May-16-Disneyland-045.jpg

Enjoying the AC...mom's on the phone with someone; I have no idea who.

May-16-Disneyland-047.jpg

Me trying to be artsy fartsy. This part of the stage is really beautiful-looking, but the rest of the theater is a cross between plush and un-plush...scaffolding is visible everywhere. I guess it wasn't worth the money at the time to finish plussing out the theater. Apparently in the future they'll be making the theater a lot nicer and enclosing the queue area and whatnot, which will be lovely if they ever get around to actually doing it.

Then the show started! I had my little camera and did tape a few bits, namely the Genie parts because they're the most varied of the whole show. I'll just let the clips speak for themselves!

Aladdin in the cave, meeting Carpet, and Genie's arrival.

"You Ain't Never Had a Friend Like Me" featuring the Genie, the Carpet, Aladdin, and a host of extras.

Aladdin as Prince Ali meets Jasmine, and funny Genie stuff.

Aladdin offers Jasimine a carpet ride (funny) and part of "A Whole New World".

Jafar getting his three wishes, and the Genie insults him. Pretty funny, even if I have heard the jokes a million times already. ;)

Aladdin defeats Jafar, and the Genie insults the bad guys some more.

So there you have it, bits and pieces of the show. Sorry that the video quality is so crummy; I actually have a MUCH better version that I did a loooooong time ago with an actual video camera. Really nice footage of Jasmine's new song, "To Be Free". Maybe I'll post it some time!

By now, you're probably wondering, "what about the post title? What does Aladdin have to do with a lost Grandpa?".

Well, actually, not much. We never really "lost" Grandpa. Technically, he lost us. See, he'd been at a golf tournament that morning, and had driven down later to join us at Disneyland for the evening. He arrived just as we'd gotten into Aladdin, and you know the rule about cell phones. He didn't know that we were in a show, however, and called mom and I no less that three times. Don't WORRY; our cell phones were on vibrate!

So once we got out of the show, we called Grandpa and decided to head over to Disneyland to catch the afternoon parade and meet up with him.

But first, we stopped to take some photos in front of the Hollywood facade.

May-16-Disneyland-068.jpg

Mom and Becks. Hey look, it's the El Capitain! Who cares about a fake street; I was going to the REAL one the next day! :D

May-16-Disneyland-070.jpg

Mom. Oh, and Baby Benjamin too, only he was well, not visible. ;)

May-16-Disneyland-071.jpg

Me and Becks.

May-16-Disneyland-073.jpg

Me. Yay!

May-16-Disneyland-074.jpg

Mom wanted her pic taken in front of this specific building front. I don't know exactly why, but it has special memories for her or something.

So with our little photo-op done, we said good-bye to the happy land of California (for now) and said hello to the World of Your Imagination!

Next Up: Those stupid kids are going to get themselves KILLED...

P.S. HILARIOUS that I only seem to post around the first of every month. I PROMISE that the next one will not be November 1st. Really. I do.

Previously on Happiness is a Disneyland BTMRR FastPass: We wait forever to get into Aladdin, Asile posts a lot of videos, we have ANOTHER photo-op, and we ditch Sunny California for Imagination Land.

-----

On our way across the plaza to Disneyland (oh, how I LOVE park-hopping at Disneyland! :D) we stopped so Becks could have her picture taken in front of her initial.

May-16-Disneyland-077.jpg

I'm so sad that there isn't an "E" in California. :(

Oh, and btw, this is where we go photo-less for the next few hours...for some reason, I did not take ANY photos from before the afternoon parade till the evening parade. I can't fathom why, I just didn't. I'll try and remember the sequence of events as best I can, and hope that my recap will be enough to fill you in on what we did.

So we entered Disneyland, and we decided to stake out a seat on the sidewalk for the parade which was to be starting soon. We had not seen Grandpa yet, but he had said he was in Tomorrowland and would be heading our way soon. We found a nice seat on the shady side of the street (it was hilarious; one side of the street was crammed with people while the other side, the sunny side, had only a few brave souls).

Since we had some time to kill, I decided to take Grandma and Becks to the Tiki Room and meet up with Grandpa here. We called him to confirm the change of destination, and off we went! There was a TON of people, all trying to go the opposite direction of us, it seemed, but we managed our way through the crowd as best we could.

We arrived at the Tiki Room, and Grandpa was not there yet. They were JUST starting to let people into the show room, and since there was a fair amount of people there I knew we couldn't just sit and wait for him, and waiting for the next show was not acceptable since we would miss the parade then. So we went in rather reluctantly, but I kept an eye out. More people flowed in, and still no Grandpa.

Finally, I spotted him making his way through the turnstiles. I ran up to the entrance of the show room and flagged him down, and made sure he knew where he was. Soon he'd made his way to our seats, and he and Grams sat together and Becks and I sat together, one row up.

The performance was very lovely, as usual, but I was getting a bit antsy because I was really, really worried that we were going to miss the pre-parade.

And why should I care?

Well, if you have any knowledge of Disneyland in the recent past, and if you've figured out at least one thing about me from these trip reports, it's that I LOVE Narnia. And in fact, that day I was in Disneyland, May 16th, was the day that PRINCE CASPIAN was coming out in theaters. And preceding their regular parade, Disney was having a pre-parade featuring none other than the Prince himself. I mean, what Narnia fan can pass that up?

I knew I'd have other chances to catch the pre-parade before I went home, but since it was opening day, I was really wanting to see it on THAT day, just to say I did. And the pre-parade is never on a set time schedule; it just comes out ten or fifteen minutes before the regular parade.

So, once the show was over, I BOOKED it over to where mom had been saving our seats, only to be informed that the pre-parade had come and gone not less that five minutes before. :( Aww, rats!

But never fear! I was told that I could still catch the evening parade later in the day. Thank heavens for small blessings, I guess!

So we sat around for a bit until the parade started, which had nothing of notible interest except that they had to make an unscheduled stop to allow Rafiki to be helped off the Lion King float and escorted backstage...I can only assume that the poor CM got heat exhaustion or something of that ilk. It really was roasting by this time.

When the parade was over, we decided to exercise the perks that come with having a wheelchair and go on Pirates of the Caribbean. We walked from Main Street to New Orleans Square via Frontierland, and I'll have you know that going up that little hill in the heat while pushing a wheelchair was NOT easy. I was so winded by the time we got to Pirates and was temporarily out of water, so I had to just stand in the shade and cool off for a few minutes. Mom and Gramps and Gram ran into someone that they'd known a long time ago, so they stood around talking for a few minutes while I attempted to catch my breath and stay out of the way of people exiting Pirates (did I mention that's where we were?).

When they were finished talking, we went through the exit up to the unloading dock, and waited for a CM to let us on. It was nice not having to wait, although when you exercise wheelchair rights you can't be picky about what kind of seat you get. I definitely prefer the front row but we got seated in the third and fourth row, which was totally fine with me. What wasn't fine with me was who got seated in front of us, and I'll explain why.

We got seated behind a set of teenagers, three boys in the front row, three girls in the second. These kids were apparently bent on breaking as many rules as they possibly could. As we approached the first drop, the three girls stood up in their seats; I guess standing up on the plunge is more exciting, or whatever. Just as they were standing up, a voice came over the loudspeaker telling them to remain seated. They sat down right away, but when the boat was just about to go down the flume, they stood up again.

As we were traveling down that little stretch to the next drop, the CM on the loudspeaker came again and told them to STAY SEATED or he would stop the ride. By this time I'm starting to get quite peeved and hope that they listen and stay seated; what do these stupid kids want to do, get themselves hurt? Not while I'm sitting behind them, no sirree!

But you can only imagine my wrath when, regardless of the CM's stern warning, they STOOD UP AGAIN. I was FUMING.

We didn't end up getting stopped, but the ride was totally ruined for me. I sat back, took some deep berths and tried to calm down before I did something I might regret.

The rest of the ride past without any other incidents, and I'm almost embarrassed to post this, but you'd understand that I was just well, a teensy bit happy when we approached the unloading dock and there was a big burly CM standing there waiting for the teens. He ordered them out of the boat and drew them aside for a stern dressing-down. He and the group of kids were blocking where our wheelchair was, so I couldn't leave until they did, so I did catch some of the conversation. I was happy that there had been some consequences for their actions, and I could only hope that the stern warning they got would stick with them for the rest of the day, but judging from their demeanor afterwards it didn't look too promising.

Oh well.

After Pirates, we decided to head back over to DCA for the only showing of the new Pixar Pals Parade that day. We got a nice seat up near the entrance, and since I'd heard tales of how WET people got from this water-spraying parade, and since it was super hot, I was REALLY hoping I would get doused.

Guess what! I barely got sprinkled! :( It's Murphy's Law, I tell ya...when you don't want to get wet, you get soaked, and when you DO want to get wet, you stay bone dry!

Oh, and the fire effect on Jack-Jack wasn't working either. :(

Once the parade was done, mom managed to snag a bench near the entrance of Condor Flats and she and Grandma elected to sit on it for the next few hours so we'd have a nice seat for the Electrical Parade. They switched out sitting there for the LONGEST time; at least three hours!

Once they were settled in, I decided to head back to Disneyland for the evening parade and took Becks with me so she could get her picture taken in front of the Castle. We booked it across the plaza, and staked out a spot near the entrance, right in front of the gate where I knew the parade would be starting out from.

Here's my video of the event...note the group of teens near us who provided some nice thematic whoops and cheers. ;)

So once I had gotten that out of the way, we headed up to Main Street to the castle.

On our way up, I spotted Mary Poppins and Bert doing their little sing-along, so I took Becks over so she could get a photo with them.

May-16-Disneyland-078.jpg

This makes me laugh because they were in the middle of singing Supercalifragilistic and barely even stopped to smile; they were still singing even while I was taking the picture!

Once at the castle, I took Becks to a little spot off to the side, where there were less people but you could still get a nice shot of the castle.

May-16-Disneyland-085.jpg

Becks took this picture of me...she's not the handiest with a camera, but I LOVE this shot. I don't know why; I'm guessing it's because of the tilt of the camera and the fact that you get the whole castle in the shot and I'm just peeking out the corner.

After I was done with that, I was attempting to take a picture of both me and Becks in front of the castle while holding the camera when a guy walked up and offered to take it for us. I hesitated for a SPLIT second; after all we were alone, there was no one else around, and I wasn't sure if I was going to hand off my camera to a strange dude. He must have read my thoughts because he said that he was a CM (albeit in street clothes; day off or heading into his shift; I don't know) and showed me a badge. I would have let him take the picture anyway, but it was nice of him to offer up that information.

May-16-Disneyland-089.jpg

So there's the photo!

Next Up: Soarin to a Cotton-Candy-Soup Bowl Electrical Parade!

Previously on Happiness is a Disneyland BTMRR FastPass: Asile FORGETS to take pictures for several HOURS, we miss a pre-parade (whaa) but catch it later, and put up with rule-breaking teens.

-----

After Becks and I were done with our little castle photo-op, we headed back to DCA to see what the elderly (ha) folk were up to. Mom and Grandma and Grandpa had been staking out a bench for the Electrical Parade later on, and had also grabbed dinner for themselves. Since Becks wasn't hungry, I headed over to the "soup bowl place" to get a Clam Chowdah Soup Bowl for myself. That's my favorite thing to eat at DCA, nothing excluded. Take some yummy clam chowder and add a fresh, delicious sourdough bread bowl into the mix, and you have heaven on heart. I'm drooling right now as I think about it. It's THAT good.

It's also enormous. These things weren't designed to be eaten by one person, unless you're Michael Phelps, which in that case, you can take two or three. The soup portion itself isn't that large; only a cup or two, but the bread bowl is HUGE, and being well, bread, you can't just eat gobs and gobs of it. Besides the actual soup and the bread bowl, they even give you the hunk of bread that they cut out of the round loaf to make room for the soup. I always eat that plain, or uncontaminated-by-soup first, which if you think about it isn't practical at all, since if you're going to have bread left over, it's better to have the plain bread left, which is much easier to save than bread with soup soaked into it, which can get nasty pretty fast.

But, I digress. I got a soup bowl. It was yummy. "Nuff said.

After I was done eating, Grandpa and I headed over to Soarin' to use our FastPasses. Did I mention that I had Fastpasses? I'd picked them up earlier in the day since I knew that Soarin' was Gramp's favorite ride and there was no way he was going to miss out on it whilst at DCA. Grandma and Becks don't like heights and for some reason Soarin' is on the pregnancy no-no list, so it was just me and Gramps who went.

Even though we had those magic little blue tickets, we still had to wait a fair bit before actually riding. We judged that it took us 45 minutes to get in and out of the line and ride. And when the ride only lasts five minutes, that's a pretty hefty time wait for a FastPass user.

May-16-Disneyland-090.jpg

Here's Grandpa in the Soarin' queue. He worked for Lockheed Marten (sp) before he retired, so he had some pretty interesting insights on the various aircraft displayed there.

May-16-Disneyland-091.jpg

My one "ride location" photo. I know know why people take random pictures of ride entrances, FastPass tickets and etc. It's so they can remember the sequence of events much better afterward, wouldn't cha know. Next time I go anywhere with the intention of making a report of it afterward, I swear I will take pictures of EVERYTHING, insects, trash, you name it. I HATE not being able to remember things in clear detail, lol!

Oh, and we got the best seats in the house for our ride. Center aisle, front row. It was fun! :D

When we got back to the group claim-sitting on the bench, Grandma explained that Becks was on a quest to find some cotton candy, and would I mind taking her to get some? Why, sure!

Since we still had plenty of time to kill before the Electrical Parade was scheduled to start, we took a detour to the Animation Studio so I could take Becks to Talk to Crush and the Sorcerer's Workshop. Becks loved Talk to Crush. I'd explained to her beforehand that she could ask Crush a question if she wanted to, but she was contented to just watch.

When were were done, we headed down to the Sorcerer's Workshop because I know Becks loves to sing and would get a kick out of the Ursula section.

May-16-Disneyland-092.jpg

Here's Becks having her personality quiz done...I forget what character she came out to be, but it might have been Nala. She was quite indignant, whatever it was...she wanted Tinker Belle, of course.

She had a blast singing along to "Bare Necessities", and when we were done with the Animation Studio we grabbed her coveted cotton candy and headed back to the group for the parade.

Up Next: Non-Smoking, Please...

So we had already killed plenty of time at Talk to Crush and the Sorcerer's Workshop, but we still had MORE time to wait for the Electrical Parade, so I busied myself by taking some photos.

May-16-Disneyland-095.jpg

Here's mom and Gramps sitting on our long-cherished bench. Held it for three hours, uh huh. I personally did not sit on it but instead sat with Becks on the ground, the closest to the parade that we could get.

May-16-Disneyland-096.jpg

Grandma, yay!

May-16-Disneyland-098.jpg

Grandpa. :)

May-16-Disneyland-099.jpg

Here's me waiting for the parade, trying to do another one of those infamous self-portraits.

May-16-Disneyland-101.jpg

And here's Becks!

We LOVED the Electrical Parade. I'd never seen it before, so I was really excited to see it and I was not disappointed. What is it about that music and lit up floats that makes whereever you are seem like the most perfect place on earth? Huh, that was a bad illustration. But anyway. I loved it. :)

I can't remember if I'd talked about this before, but according to the Original Plan, we were going to watch the Electrical Parade, leave JUST as it ended, rush to Disneyland for the fireworks, and then catch the last showing of Fantasmic. In the weeks and days leading up to the trip, however, I had been re-thinking that plan. We were going to have to get up e.a.r.l.y in order to make our 10 AM showing of Prince Caspian at the El Capitan, and if there is anything I dispise, it's being so tired and 'out of it' that I end up going through an important event in a daze, and not enjoying it to the fullest extend. And Saturday of all days was one day I did NOT want to be too tired to enjoy it.

So Fantasmic was out of the picture, but we'd still been toying with the idea of making the fireworks. However, having not heeded the excellent advice given here, by the time the parade was over the fireworks had already started. So scratch that plan.

Being so near the entrance to DCA, we managed to avoid most of the crush leaving the park only to catch up with them in the plaza. Mom and I went to return the wheelchair while the rest of the group waited for us. Once we were done, we all headed for the trams and rode back to the parking garage.

Now, there was one small issue left, and that was how to get Grandma's handicap parking pass out of mine and mom's car and into Grandpa's car. Originally mom had thought that we could just keep it and have me run out and give it back to them when they arrived at Disneyland on Monday, but it just killed me to think of wasting all that time on a park morning, so once we got off the tram, I elected to run ahead and grab the pass and meet them as they were walking to Grandpa's car. I'm sure you've noticed the trend; me running ahead to save time on things. Trust me, I paid for it later.

So I delivered the card to it's rightful owners, said goodbye to Becks (since she would be going to her dad's house the next day and I wouldn't be seeing her for the rest of the trip) and mom and I got in our little blue car and went on our merry way.

We were staying at the Knotts Resort that night, due to it's cheapness and close proximity to the park. We had a bit of fun navigating the streets due to the GPS not recognizing the hotel's address or something silly like that, but we arrived in due time not much worse for the wear.

We went in, got our room number, and proceeded to locate it. I noticed there was a lot of young folk running around...my guess was that there was some sort of grad party going on or something of that ilk.

So we find the elevators, find the correct floor, and then start following the signs directing us to our room. Turning the corner, we both realized something was not right. Directly in the way of where we were supposed to go was a large glass door separating that wing from the other wings. And it was clearly labeled: Smoking Section.

Um...come again?

We double checked the room number. Unfortunately, we were exactly where we were supposed to be. The people at the front desk had given us a room.in.the.smoking.section.

Arrrrrrrrrrg.

So mom sat down in the little foyer by the elevator while I went back downstairs to speak to the person at the desk. It was late, and I was in no mood for a big brouhaha; in fact we probably would have dropped it right then if it had not been for one thing; mom's pregnancy. You just don't put a pregnant woman in a room reeking of smoke without at least trying to fix the situation.

I spoke to the man at the desk and he was very nice and apologetic, but unfortunately they were completely filled up and that was the only room that was open. I pointed out that mom was pregnant, but that still didn't help. I was so upset, but listen, it was late, I was tired, and I'm not your confrontational type anyway. So I went back upstairs to deliver the bad news.

We were both pretty ticked off, but we decided to check out the room just to see what it was like. I was clean, and didn't smell TOO bad, especially with the AC on. We were still upset, but were in no mood to cause any more drama and decided to just call it a night. Unhappy customers we were, but I guess beggars can't be choosers, especially at 11 at night.

So thus ended our jam-packed day. FINALLY!

Up Next: *squee* NARRNIAAAAAAAAA!!!

*tap tap, is this thing on?*

Ahem. We interrupt this regularly (ha) scheduled (double ha) broadcast for a special announcement. I figured it would be in everyone's best interest if I did a bit of an introduction to the events of this next day, since I'm liable to get a lot of "Huh?"s and "Sorry, I'm confused..."s if I don't. That is, if people actually commented on here. :p ;) But, I digress.

As I may or may not have explained before, the real, main, big huge reason why Mom and I were taking this trip in the first place was not because we wanted to go to Disneyland (although we did) and not because we wanted to see friends (badly!). The real reason was because I wanted to attend the Prince Caspian Opening Weekend Narniaweb Lion Party at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California. I wanted to do this badly enough that I cheerfully surrendered the ENTIRE contents of my bank account to finance the trip (not that it wasn't a whole lot, but still). Yeah, what a reason, right?

Narniaweb.com has been well, a big part of my life since early 2005. I had just read the Narnia series for the first time, had heard rumors of a movie being released, and being the internet savvy person I am, started scrounging around Google for an informative forum I could join. Narniaweb wasn't my first pick, actually, but after discovering it for the first time around July, I happily ditched any and all of the other forums I'd picked up and threw myself on the mercy of that red-and-tan site. It was unlike any other forum I'd ever been on. They had strict rules, but they were GOOD rules. Everyone was friendly, and intellectual, MEANINGFUL discussion actually exsisted. I was in heaven.

The good folks on that board became my friends and allies, and we all shared in mass glee when the first Narnia movie was released in December. Narniaweb had pulled together a little page that organized Lion Parties, our version of a line party, where like-minded folks get together and watch the movie on opening day. I was too chicken then to attempt to search out any near me, but I promised myself that I would make it to one next go-around, at the El Capitan if I could manage. Especially after I became a moderator on the forum in 2006. I was so anxious to finally meet some of the people I'd worked so closely with!

Then I moved in late 2007, and I wasn't really sure what I would be doing. I knew I wanted to make it down to California sometime the next summer, but I didn't know if it was going to be for the El Capitan LP, a Narnia convention at the end of June, or Comic-Con in July. Comic-Con was quickly ruled out due to it's apparent lack of Narnia that year, and it was a toss up between May and June. May won out, however, after I started to see the list of attendees for the party grow and saw several people I couldn't pass up on meeting, and it being the more cost effective trip, especially when my mom offered to go along and not only co-finance but be my chauffeur, something I badly needed. Oh yeah, and the parks aren't as crowded in May, either. ;)

So, yeah. Group tickets for Opening Day (May 16) at the El Capitan could not be obtained, so the next day, the 17th, was quickly chosen as THE day for the Lion Party, and quite a group was expected to attend.

So there you have it. :) I hope that will clear up any confusion you might have, and help you to understand just how exciting a day this was shaping up do be. :)

Back to the Trip Report, woot woot!

-----

Previously on Happiness is a Disneyland BTMRR FastPass: The Group watches the Electrical Parade, misses the fireworks, Asile runs her legs off and she and her pregnant mother are forced to sleep in a smoke-hazed room.

-----

We woke up the next morning to the ringing of my cell phone. I sleepily tried to answer it and gathered that the call-ee was none other than Paul, fellow mod and organizer of the whole Lion Party. He'd called to confirm our rendezvous time and location. I was a bit too sleepy to be my normal witty, engaging self (triple ha) but the conversation was deemed a success and I hung up hoping I hadn't sounded TOO much like an idiot.

Both mom and I were slightly cranky that morning due to our late night, early morning, full day previous and our room situation. I myself was extremely stiff and sore from speed-walking all over creation the day before, and mom had a massive blister on the outside edge of each foot, dispite having worn sandals the day before and not experiencing any friction whatsoever.

In hind sight, we wonder if that and the slight swelling she was experiencing might have been a forewarning of the preeclampsia she would be diagnosed with later. It would be exactly one week later that she would obtain a massive sunburn which seemed to have triggered off the condition, and ended up delivering Benjamin prematurely three days afterward. But we couldn't have known that then. And there was nothing we could have done about it, besides. All I can say is how thankful we were that the whole preeclampsia thing happened AFTER we got home and not DURING our trip. It easily could have, and I don't like to think what could have happened had it done so. But enough is enough; no need for a lot of "what if"s.

We packed our things and I made sure to "dump down" all the pictures from my memory card to the laptop (remember that; there will be a pop quiz later). Since were were only staying one night, we bid farewell and good RIDDANCE to the hotel that had not been at all what we'd been expecting.

Most of the out-of-town attendees were staying at a Good Nite Inn down the road, and that had been our pre-determined meeting point. The plan was for everyone to meet up there and then to drive down to Hollywood in a caravan together.

It was slightly awkward meeting people you "know" but "don't know", if you know what I mean, but we got over that quickly, and were soon on our way! :)

We arrived in Hollywood without incident, parked in the parking structure across the street from the theater, and headed out to pick up our group tickets. As we were walking out from the building and I saw the El Capitan across the street with Prince Caspian ads blazing all over the place, I thought, "I gotta get a picture of this!"

So I grabbed my camera and snapped away, only to be greeted with this little message:

"You do not have enough space on your internal memory"

OH NO!!!!!!!!

I immediately checked the memory card slot. There was NO card there. Where had it gone!?!?! Then I remembered...I'd dumped down the pictures from the card that morning...I must have left it in the laptop, which was in the car!

So I'm starting to have a mini-panic attack; I HAVE to have that memory card. It would be unthinkable to not be able to take pictures during this special event. But our group was already crossing the street and heading for the El Capitan. I went along, hoping I'd be able to snag someone to go back to the car with me to fetch the card.

As we were walking past a theater that apparently Jimmy Kimmel does his show in, someone popped out from behind a telephone poll and called my name. It was Jody! She had come down to the El Capitan to watch PC. She wouldn't be joining us for our little Disneyland trip until the next day, but it was, of course, great to see her. I asked her if she wanted to come with me to fetch the memory card, and she agreed, so off we went!

May-17-El-Capitan-001.jpg

Here's a picture of Jody in the parking garage. I had taken one before and had gotten the glare from the light in it, so I had her reposition and tried again. As you can see, this one didn't come out much better.

After retreiving the memory card from the laptop, we headed back across the street. The group was nowhere to be found, but we soon located them in a little back alley where all the groups had been put until it was movie time.

Now the party could begin! It wasn't much of a party-party; it was hot and not conducive for mass hysteria. But we got to know each other, and we also passed around various items for everyone in the Lion Party to sign.

May-17-El-Capitan-002.jpg

May-17-El-Capitan-002.jpg

Here's Jody and two other signing people's items. I had my prized Prince Caspian shirt from Comic-Con that I had people sign. I had bought one of those white fabric markers before I'd left and I just prayed that it would work. It started to run out twords the end, but I did end up getting everyone's signature!

After 20 minutes or so, we were escorted into the theater. The place was just crammed with people. Group tickets are the lowest on the totem pole, and by the time we got in there weren't too many good seats left. Our party leaders led us up to some front row seats on the right of the screen, pretty close up.

I wanted to stay with the group so badly, but I just couldn't sit there. I wouldn't be able to see and I would get a big headache from being so close. Also, when I'd gone to see the first Narnia movie, LWW, three years earlier, it had been the worst movie showing I'd EVER been too. Skipped parts, no sound in sections, skewed image...you name it, it was messed up. I just couldn't take a chance of having another first showing end up being disappointing because I couldn't see properly.

So after saying my very sad farewells, Jody and I headed up to the balcony to try and find better seats. We ended up scoring some very good seats right in the middle of the screen, with a fantastic view.

May-17-El-Capitan-005.jpg

Waiting for the movie to start. :)

May-17-El-Capitan-007.jpg

Jody seems excited too!

Oh, and this wouldn't be a true trip report without a little video of the amazing organ player!

Soon afterwards, the lights finally dimmed and the movie started.

I won't go into detail here about the movie itself or a detailed reaction; you can read my review of the film here. Let's just say that I enjoyed it very, very much, and I was not disappointed. :D

Hey Jody! What'd ya think of the movie?

Previously on Happiness is a Disneyland BTMRR FastPass: Asile and her mom go to Hollywood, join a Lion Party, and watch Prince Caspian. Simple, no?

-----

After the movie was over, we reconvened as a group and figured out what we wanted to do next. We wanted to get a group picture taken in front of this massive chuck of tiled cement that had been part of the train station set, but there was just too many people milling around at the time so we decided to hold off on that. I know we browsed the gift shop for a bit; I can't remember exactly when.

But anyway, eventually we decided to head downstairs and check out the props display. There was quite a crush of people and the line moved quite slowly at first, but we got in eventually, haha.

Here's some pics of the stuff on display; you can skip over this if you're not interested in PC props and stuff. I'm sorry the picture quality is not the greatest; almost everything was behind a glass partition. Sometimes I wonder if they put stuff behind glass not only to protect it, but to mess with people's cameras so it won't turn out looking nice and professional. The lighting would certainly suggest that, lol. It reminds me of when I went to the FDIM (?) costume exhibit in LA a few years back. Hardly anything was behind glass; just security-alarmed fences, so it was good for pictures. Except I remember that the Star Wars exhibit has some weird red lighting to it, and I felt so sorry for all the Star Wars fans who came to take detailed pictures of the costumes and had the red light interfere with that.

Anyway. Sorry for that long rabbit trail. Props, please! I'm severely limited in my number of photos, so you'll get very few here.

May-17-El-Capitan-015.jpg

Mom and one of the larger props there; the King's bed. I think it was cut down though; it didn't look all that large.

May-17-El-Capitan-018.jpg

Jody and I in front of an exhibit. Please ignore the fact that my bag is pulling my shirt off my shoulder. >_<

May-17-El-Capitan-023.jpg

Miraz Jr.'s cradle. We all agreed that it looked awfully small for a baby. It would fit it for what, a month, max? Looking back, I think the mattress is raised for display purposes, but it's still super small.

May-17-El-Capitan-046.jpg

Jody, mom and I in front of Caspian's wardrobe. You know, the one he hides in to escape certain death...:p

By the time we'd gotten near the end of the exhibit the place had pretty much cleared out, so we could have wandered around as much as we wanted to. As soon as we were done, we headed back upstairs and tried to patch back together our group, which had splintered off into different mini-groups.

All around the theater they had random little props stuck around; stuff you'd never notice normally but really added to the atmosphere here.

May-17-El-Capitan-055.jpg

Here's Jody and mom in front of a bunch of war-time posters.

I think it was at this time that we went into the gift shop to browse around and see what there was to see. I couldn't resist taking a picture of this:

May-17-El-Capitan-057.jpg

Whoo hooo! :D

Winnie the Pooh and Donald Duck also had stars in the near vicinity; and I'm sure there were more around the area as well.

May-17-El-Capitan-060.jpg

He may not be THE Mouse, but hey, it'll tide us over until Monday!

May-17-El-Capitan-061.jpg

Who's going to Disneyland? WE ARE!!!!

We were nearly done at the El Capitan, but we still had to have our group photo taken!

n597087133_853281_9043.jpg

Not the ENTIRE group (a few were still unaccounted for) but it's the majority of us, anyway. A good number of these people are folks that I've gotten to know quite well for the past few years, and it was so great to finally be able to meet them. :) Oh, and just so you get how "big" this was, see the lady in the pink shirt next to me? She came all the way from England just to come to the party! Okay, so being able to sight-see in Arizona didn't factor in at ALL, I'm sure. ;) But really, considering that the UK didn't get the movie until a month later, one can totally understand it!

At this point we gathered up the fractured remnants of our group and trekked across the street to an outdoor mall, where we intended to eat lunch together. By this time Jody's parents had come to pick her up, so she said her goodbyes and the rest of us left for the second half of our party.

May-17-El-Capitan-062.jpg

Here's the obligatory Hollywood sign shot. There was a really great view from the mall, so I couldn't resist, despite the fact that the sign doesn't hold "too" much novelty for me since I used to see it every week for years on end.

We intended to eat at the California Pizza Kitchen, but there was some mishap, from what I gather, and we ended up having to wait quite a bit for our tables, and even then we weren't able to get the whole group seated together. It was quite warm outside and mom told me that if we weren't able to get a seat within a half an hour or so, we'd have to leave because she couldn't just sit outside all afternoon long and wait. We didn't need to, however, and we got a table before too long. It was decided to let the folks who needed AC the most in first, so the first group was comprised of mom and myself, our lovely site admin and her husband (she was feeling unwell) and two folks who'd shown up in costume and must have been dying in the heat.

We had a lovely "mini-moot". The company, food and conversation left nothing to be desired. :) I had the Garlic Chicken Pizza, which was amazing. So fresh and yummy. :D My only one little gripe with it was that it was almost too fresh...it had onions and garlic on it, both of which I like, but only when it's REALLY cooked. This was on the cooked-but-not-mush side, which generally is good, but I don't like mine crunchy so I ended up taking most of it off. A while ago mom bought the same pizza but frozen from the store, and I almost like that better, since it's more cooked. But anyway, I digress. All in all, it was YUMMY.

When we were finished, we headed over to the other group's table to say our goodbyes and have one last group picture taken, since some had been absent for the previous group photo. Of course, Jody was missing this time, but I guess that between the first and second group photo, you get everyone!

May-17-El-Capitan-063.jpg

Say cheese!

On our way out, we stopped to take our "proof-of-visitation" photos.

May-17-El-Capitan-064.jpg

Mom...

May-17-El-Capitan-065.jpg

And me. :)

May-17-El-Capitan-066.jpg

Here's the El Capitan shot that I had tried to get earlier but had been thwarted by missing memory cards. Thank you for a great experience, El Capitan!

We were saying in Redondo Beach that night, since it was relatively close to Hollywood and close to our church, which we'd be attending the next morning. We'd stayed there before, and I was really excited when we got that as our reservation because I LOVE that place, and you'll see why later.

While driving to Redondo Beach, we went past Pink's Hot Dogs, a quite famous eatery in LA that a lot of celebrities did/do hang out at. I've never actually been there. Shocking, no?

May-17-El-Capitan-070.jpg

Before too long, we'd arrived at our destination! We had nearly all afternoon and all of the evening free, so we decided to just sit around and relax from our rather fast-paced weekend. I got mom's laptop out and spent quite a bit of time catching up on things. We were in a suite that had two TV's, so mom watched one and I watched the other. It was quite a satisfactory arrangement. ;) We did leave once in the evening to grab some dinner, but besides that, it was just relaxing and resting for us!

May-17-El-Capitan-071.jpg

This is where my dad used to work before we moved to Chicago. Actually, that's not true. He still works for the same company; he just telecommutes, and he didn't work in that particular building, but a smaller one to the right of it. But yeah. Many fond memories there. :)

May-17-El-Capitan-072.jpg

And I couldn't close out this entry without another shot of our bright blue car! As I said, we'll never lose it in a crowd! ;)

Sunday morning dawned bright and early for us. We were going back to our old church that morning, which was really exciting because I couldn't wait to see all the people that I'd grown up with. I had been going to this church since before I was born, so to say that it was a huge aspect of my life would be an understatement.

So we got up, got dressed, and I headed downstairs for breakfast.

Do you remember me mentioning earlier that we LOVE this hotel, and do you want to know one of the reasons why? They have the BEST free breakfast that I have EVER seen at any hotel anywhere, room rate notwithstanding. I've been in a loooooooot of hotels and generally it's a continental breakfast consisting of cereal and bagels, or nothing at all. I've never seen such a spread as what they offer at the lovely hotel we stayed in that night. It was scrumptious. :)

Right before we left for church, mom insisted that we take some photos outside the hotel.

May-18-Meeting-002.jpg

Random note: I bought that shirt at Ross the day after we arrived in Cali. It doesn't work with my height and type, but I like the color!

May-18-Meeting-006.jpg

Mom in front of the hotel. If you're ever in the LA area and looking for a cheap, nice hotel, look up Springhill Suites!

I will skip most of the time we were in church because I doubt anybody is really interested in that (I mean, look at the masses flocking to read this TR in the first place!).

So I will just jump to lunch time, when I took out the camera and snapped some pics of my friends.

May-18-Meeting-009.jpg

This is Michael, Jody's younger brother. He's my sister Mary's age, so around 14, and he has Down Syndrome. Don't let that fool you though; he is an incredibly lovable and funny guy. He's a big movie buff and will amuse you for hours by quoting and acting out scenes from different movies, including his favorites, Pirates of the Caribbean.

May-18-Meeting-011.jpg

Jody, just one day away from Disneyland! :D

And ANOTHER shot ruined. Michael!!! :D

May-18-Meeting-018.jpg

This is Sarah Ellen, the youngest in Jody's family. She's, what, six or seven, but so mature and funny. Have you ever seen the movie Eloise? She reminds me so much of Eloise. Except a bit more mature and not so annoying. I'm sure Jody will be quick to disagree, but hey. ;)

May-18-Meeting-020.jpg

This is me and Drew, Christina's baby. I've known Christina since, well, before I was born, and she was my Sunday School teacher for the longest time. I was at her wedding and when she told me she was pregnant, I was SO excited for her; she loves children so much. Of course, when we moved away before the baby was born, I was of course disappointed and couldn't wait to see him in May, and here he is!

May-18-Meeting-021.jpg

Isn't he a pumpkin? Look at that hair! All of our kids had a ton of hair, but goodness. He is the spit and image of his Grandpa.

This picture cracks me up. They were trying to do the Happy and Sad faces of theater, except Jody can't keep a straight face for the LIFE of her. Whenever we would play "I can make you smile!" she would ALWAYS lose. Teehehehehhe.

I forget what was so funny, lol!

When we were done, Jody got her stuff, we changed into some more street-wearable clothes, and off we went!

Mom couldn't bear to leave the area without visiting Tito's Tacos, so we went there first.

May-18-Meeting-049.jpg

This place is a little hole-in-the-wall, but boy does it make good tacos. And burritoes. This place always has a gigantic line. If you're ever in LA, you ought to check it out; it's quite a local stop.

May-18-Meeting-050.jpg

Mom with her snare. The woman can die happy now!

While we were driving to our next destination, I gave Jody her birthday present from my sister Mary. You know, the one that went through a luggage search untouched while my Narnia book wrapped in plastic wrap got pulled apart. Sad world, isn't it? ;)

May-18-Meeting-056.jpg

She's excited to see what it is...

May-18-Meeting-057.jpg

Unwrapping...

May-18-Meeting-058.jpg

Ooh, what is it?!?!?!

May-18-Meeting-059.jpg

A Narnia notebook!

May-18-Meeting-061.jpg

Hey Mary! Thanks!

Since we were in the LA area, and it would be our last time there until the day we left to go home, mom wanted to stop by the American Girl place so we could nab some personalized doll tees to match the ones she bought at the Chicago store. What can I say; I have little sisters who love American Girl. :p

May-18-Meeting-062.jpg

Pretty place!

Now HERE is where the drama of the day took place.

Mom dropped Jody and I off at the entrance to pick up the shirts, since there was no parking spaces nearby, and told us she'd be by in a bit to pick us up. No problem. So we headed inside and located the desire tee-shirts. Here's where we hit a snag. There was actually an OPTION of color and style. Um, I dunno what kind she wants! Pink, red or black? *shrugs*

So I whipped out my cellphone to call her and ask. Actually, I didn't whip it out. Because it wasn't in my purse at all.

*gulp*

Whoops!

I didn't want to buy the shirt without asking her which one she wanted first (because I ALWAYS get the wrong one), so I asked an employee nearby if there was a payphone in the building. She said there wasn't. Hmm. So I obviously had to do something, so I just picked out a black one, paid for it, and we went outside to wait for mom.

And then again we had a delemma. Mom had not mentioned exactly when she'd be back. She had said that she might drive around for a bit and wait for me to call her. I obviously couldn't do that, but without calling her, we could be waiting FOREVER!

The American Girl store was located in a little outdoor shopping mall, and I knew there had to be a payphone SOMEWHERE. So I told Jody to keep an eye out for mom's car while I went into a Bath and Body Works to ask about a payphone. They didn't have one either, but told me there should be one located in the mall area. So we consulted a map, and figured out that the nearest one was just off a little sidestreet.

We walked down to the correct location, and there is NO payphone there. Anywhere. It's hot, it's crowded, we can't find the payphone, and I'm getting a bit frustrated.

We consulted the map again, and decided to try and find Pay Phone #2. The map lead us down this teeny alley in the back of a restaurant. It smelled and wasn't a very pleasant place to be.

At the end of the alley we FINALLY found two pay phones, but guess what! Neither were working! Great. Juuuuuuuuust great.

So we exited the little alley, which took us back to the main street, just down from the American Girl place. By this time it's been 15-20 minutes since we left, and I knew that mom would have called my cellphone by then. I was just hoping that she'd heard the phone ring in the car, realize that I didn't have it, and come back pronto.

So we're standing on the street, I'm scanning up and down, hot, tired and VERY frustrated, when I spot a electric blue bumper sticking out of a side street Could it be!?!?!

I hollared at Jody "STAY THERE!!!!" and I ran down to the car, hoping that it wouldn't drive off. I mean, how many electric blue cars are driving around LA...it HAD to be mom.

Sure enough, it was. Mom didn't even seem to notice that we'd been "missing"! She said, "I called your cellphone, but you never answered, so I just pulled into this little street to wait for you." Never answered!?!?! I didn't have it!!! Turns out I still had my cellphone on vibrate from church, so she hadn't heard it ring and had assumed that I still had it. *face palm*

Anyway, it all turned out well. I showed mom the shirt I'd bought and she sent me back in for another pink one (told ya I never pick the right one!). Jody and I went back, bought the right shirt, got back in the car, and all was right in the world again.

Phew!

After our lovely afternoon diversion, we were ready to head back to Anehiem and relax in our hotel for the rest of the day.

May-18-Meeting-063.jpg

"Member the writers strike? Got my Narnia movie postponed. Yeah, I know, not of general interest...lol!

Before we went to our hotel, we stopped at Knotts for some of their famous Chicken Dinner!

May-18-Meeting-069.jpg

Jody's got the cookies, I have the chicken. Life is good!

We stayed in a La Quinta off of Katella, very near Disneyland. Within walking distance, if you like that sort of thing, but obviously with mom that was not an option, so we planned to take the car anyway.

When we got to the hotel, we checked in, kicked back and relaxed for the rest of the day. It only had one bed, but it did have a pull-out sofa, so we decided that Jody would have the sofa and mom and I would take the bed. There were two TV's and the sofa and the second TV was in it's own little room, so mom watched whatever she wanted to and Jody and I watched The Office and Wizards of Waverly Place. We chatted, laughed, ate, and got ready for the next day!

Up Next: Um...Disneyland, anyone? :D

Previously on Happiness is a Disneyland BTMRR FastPass: Asile and Jody go to LA and get stuck without a cell phone. Horrors, huh, pre-cell phone folks? ;)

-----

Editor's Note: This is where my highly detailed (ha) notes end and next to nothing exists. I'll be relying mainly on photos to keep me organized, so if it seems a bit disjointed, blame my note-taker. She was quite absent from here on out. :p ;)

Okay, so we woke up at the crack of dawn, headed out bright and early and made it to Disneyland an hour before rope drop.

Hahahahahahahahahahhaha.

So the truth is, we woke up at a decent hour, had breakfast, headed down to the parks and arrived just before rope drop. Main Street was simply congested with people, as expected, so we ducked into the stores on the Tomorrowland side and walked our way up in there. No, we were NOT cheating. Mom REALLY did want to shop. Honestly. Anyway, we hung out in the store closest to the rope until it well, dropped, and then joined the throng of people heading into the park. No, first we went to First Aid to get some band-aids for mom's gigantic blisters. There we met a young couple who were celebrating their little daughter's one year anniversary of being surgery-free. They had to drop off some medications that had to be kept refrigerated; apparently they have to have them with them at all times in case she goes into cardiac arrest. Things like that made you thankful for God's blessings, and it helped put things into perspective...sure, it may be hot, crowded and busy, but you can be thankful that you're not the one toting around life-saving medication where ever you go in case something bad happens.

Jody and I made out like a bandit to Big Thunder Mountain, because we knew that that was the most frequent place to get Dream FastPasses. Of course, we *could* have remembered that the Dream Team generally doesn't make an appearance until at least an hour after opening, but who cared; we were going on Thunder Mountain!

We got the front row, had a blast, and then I ran ahead to get some FastPasses for Splash Mountain while Jody and mom walked at a more leisurely pace towards the Haunted Mansion. When we met back up, we noticed that the line for Splash was pretty short, so we decided to go on that first before heading to the Haunted Mansion.

The line was a tad bit deceptive; it was a bit longer than we'd anticipated (it was May, it was clear, and it was HOT). Jody decided to take the time to call my younger sister (they're very good friends) and I amused myself by taking pictures.

May-19-Disneyland-003.jpg

Jody on the phone. Did you know that the reception inside the Splash queue is not all that great?

May-19-Disneyland-004.jpg

Cruddy self-portrait. Can't you tell that the pace has gotten to me?

May-19-Disneyland-006.jpg

Me and Jody. *yells in a high-pitched, Valley Girl voice* BFF!!!!

May-19-Disneyland-007.jpg

Our rednecked photo. I felt so bad; I completely blocked out that girl's face.

When we got off, we headed over to the Haunted Mansion. If there was a line, it must have been pretty short, as I don't remember it. I'd never been on the regular version of the Haunted Mansion before; only the Holiday version, so it was fun to see it in it's original state.

When we exited the ride, we hopped back on Splash Mountain to use up our FastPasses...did I mention that it was HOT?!?!

May-19-Disneyland-009.jpg

Boo! Boo! Rubbish! Filth! Slim....whoops, wrong movie. :p

May-19-Disneyland-010.jpg

What we looked like after our ride. Somebody's not too happy...

May-19-Disneyland-012.jpg

Jody may be an amazing swimmer, but when it comes to getting wet fully-clothed, she's like a cat; she HATES getting wet.

May-19-Disneyland-014.jpg

Mom relaxing in front of the Pooh ride. Speaking of Pooh, that's what we went on next. Fun and slightly trippy, as always. :p It's the over-abundant use of blacklight, I tell ya...

By this time it was nearly time for our reservation at the Blue Bayou, a neat little restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. I'd been there once before and while overpriced, the food was good and the atmosphere wonderful. Grandma and Grandpa still had a day left on those two-day passes they'd bought for Friday, so they would be joining us for our early lunch.

On the way, I had to stop and take a picture of this little beauty.

May-19-Disneyland-018.jpg

Pretty, ain't it.

May-19-Disneyland-019.jpg

I'm telling you, someday, somehow, I WILL get inside that place. :D

May-19-Disneyland-020.jpg

Here's another place I'd really love to get into.

May-19-Disneyland-021.jpg

Boo! I wanted to stay there!

Oh well. Some day, mark my words...;)

Previously on Happiness is a Disneyland BTMRR FastPass: We go to Disneyland and go on rides. Biiiiiiiiiiiiiig whooop. Move along; nothing to see here! ;)

-----

We checked in for our reservation, and was told that there was a 30-45 minute wait for the waterside table. We're of the opinion that if you're going to shell out that kind of money you might as well get the best bang for your buck, so we decided to wait. Grandma and Grandpa hadn't arrived yet, so it was all good anyway.

They have this rule where you MUST wait inside of their little waiting area; you can't walk around, look at stores or go on rides. I understand the ride part, but it was kind of a waste of time to just SIT there when I could have been across the street spending MY money on THEIR merchandise. A win-win situation, right? :p They really ought to invest in those buzzer things that practically every other establishment has except them.

The room was extremely crowded when we arrived, but it cleared out fairly quickly and soon we had practically the entire room to ourselves.

May-19-Disneyland-022.jpg

Hooray for being mind-numbingly bored!

Here's Jody telling Mary what a horrible time she's having and showing off her mad drawing skills. Have I mentioned that Jody wants to be an animator for Pixar someday?

Grandma and Grandpa showed up soon, and we were seated not too long after. We had a nice table; one of the first waterfront tables. It didn't have the greatest view; the ones further down have the best view, but it was very nice anyway.

Mom, Grandpa and Grandma after our meal.

It was very good...we all had the prime rib, which was excellent. Mom and I and Grandpa and Grandma split plates while Jody ended up getting her own since A) there was no one to share with and B) they wouldn't let her get a child's portion. Boo! It worked out quite nicely though; she gobbled up all of her meat and I helped her eat her veggies and potatoes. :D

Lol, all of this Pirates talk reminds me of a time when Mary and I were visiting Jody at her house, and we put together our own spoof on Pirates of the Caribbean. We called "Pirates 3/4", since it came before Pirates 1, and it was dump, cheesy and funny. Although I will say that the Will/Elizabeth/Jack "Chariots of Fire" remix was a classic. ;) Here's the Youtube link for my devoted followers who check this TR every day! *coughnoonecough* ;)

And here's our blooper reel:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7D0LLAGf6g

Fun times...

Anyway, when we were done at the Blue Bayou, we all headed over to the Jungle Cruise for our obligatory ride. I always enjoy the ride, but I didn't enjoy our Skipper this time around...I think she was new, because she was very stiff and wooden. And not in a funny way, like a "ha ha, I stink at this" way. Just boring. But ya can't win every time...

After this mom, Grandma and Grandpa went off to do their own thing, and Jody and I headed over to Indiana Jones. I believe I had FastPassed it earlier but I don't remember. I have a vague recollection of wrestling with the FastPass machine until it gave me my tickets. I noticed that all the machines were acting weird that day...they were extremely slow; it would take a minute or two for your ticket to come out. I think one time I ended up with someone else's FP ticket, and they mine. Anyway, it was weird. But regardless, we rode Indy and had a great time. We got seated next to a mom and her young daughter who had never been on the ride before. The girl was excited when it started, and during the ride Jody and I were having a blast and not paying any attention to her, but I noticed that afterward, her eyes were as big as saucers, and when asked if she wanted to go on again, she gave a firm "No!". I felt bad for her; poor kid was probably freaked out. Hey, the first time I rode Indy, *I* got freaked out! That boulder effect is SO scary the first time around!

After this we headed to Tomorrowland to grab a FastPass for Space, and it had a gigantic return time; about an hour and 45 minutes. We killed time by riding Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters (I forget who won) and Star Tours. Star Tours may be old and outdated but it sure is a ton of fun!

After we were done with all the short wait attractions in Tomorrowland, we headed over to ToonTown to ride Rodger Rabbit. Now, this ride NEVER has a line..except on crowded days. And this was a crowded day. >_< We waited a good 20 minutes for that ride. Completely not worth it for me, but Jody had never been on it, and we had nothing better to do with our time. The queue was long, crowded to the hilt and so narrow and claustrophobic. There was a lot of themeing but I didn't find it engaging or interesting. The only notable thing of worth in this queue was one section where there's holes in the wall, and you can actually see right in to the ride. Jody and I amused ourselves for sometime by sticking our arms and faces through the holes and trying to get the rider's attention. Sometime they saw us, sometimes they didn't. Maybe they just thought we were part of the theming. ;)

Eventually we did get through the line and onto the ride, and when we were finished we still had some time to kill so we wondered, what should we do next?

Up Next: Ice Cream, Yummy!

"Nickname: Asile. A cool smilie to the first person who "gets" that nickname. Another cool smile to the first person who "gets" my screen-name"

Gymfan= Gymnastics Fan

and.......Pretty sure I remember you from GZ back in the day, too. Do I get a cool smiley for that, as well?

I read that you guys are friends with the Dugger's. Cool! Are you guys QF as well? Do you think you'll do a courtship like the Dugger kids will, or will you date?

I'm sorry if I'm being nosy---I'm just curious.

We actually got to SEE the Dugger's in DISNEYLAND on our last trip in 2006. That was pretty darn cool, people.

GymnZone! Good heavens, that IS back in the day. I'm shocked anyone still remembers the dear old place. Yay, smilies for you!

I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out what "QF" means. :lmao: Sorry, I guess I'm just home teached! ;) Yes, I do believe we (or I, at least) will follow a courtship-type pattern, although that's a pretty broad term. Don't know if I would do it exactly the way the Duggars did, but then again, no two definitions of courtship are alike so it's kind of hard to pin that one down!

That's really neat that you saw them at Disneyland when they were there. :) We got to meet them for the first time during their California trip, after they went to Disneyland. It was funny watching their show later because we didn't have a clue as to what Disneyland was like nowadays (hadn't been since, oh goodness, since before I can remember!) and it wasn't until after we started going that it was like, "Oh, I remember watching the Duggars there!" :lmao:

Anyway, thanks for commenting; I was beginning to wonder if anyone even read this silly thing. :confused3 ;) :lmao:
