I said this in another thread once, and maybe I'm in the minority, but I never gave much thought to the "story" in Wishes.
I mean, I might just be a dumb simpleton, but if you asked me to describe the Wishes storyline, it would go something like ...
-UH-OH, THE LIGHTS ARE OUT!
-WOW, THAT MUSIC IS SO GRAND!
-Oh man, that young girl has such a sweet voice.
-Well these are cute little fireworks!
-Jiminy Cricket is talking about something-or-other.
-OH MY GOD DON'T FALL, TINK
-Whew.
-BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
-That guy kinda sounds like Robin Williams, I guess
-BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
-Oh man, various villains.
-BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
-(I spend the next three minutes looking around for an actual blue fairy)
-BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
-Children's choir
-Jiminy says to believe in yourself or carpe diem or something
-crreeessscccceeeennnndddooooooooo
-BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
-Why are these people screaming at me to make a wish?
-BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
-Jiminy gives himself credit for me having great wishes
-ALL THE BOOMS
-The lights are back on. Time to get a churro.
It was a great show, no doubt. I've seen it a couple dozen times. I just never even factored in a "storyline". Which means I probably won't for the new show either. I'm just a big dumb oaf who will stand there in dazzled amazement.

I like you description of it. To me Wishes always felt like any other fireworks show except with Disney Music instead. After Illuminations Reflections of Earth came out it changed all fireworks shows. After the first time I saw that one I could never look at another show the same until I saw Disneyland forever (the 5oth show).I said this in another thread once, and maybe I'm in the minority, but I never gave much thought to the "story" in Wishes.

After seeing the show a few times I have to say that it is an amazing show i feel like most of its strong points have already been addressed on the boards and podcast. I will always nitpick some technical issues though.
First is viewing angles and the fireworks: One problem I noticed is that depending on your vantage point your attention is drawn towards the castle. This means that often you are missing the larger fireworks. The intereactive fireworks that come from the castle and surrounding buildings blend into the story so perfectly but for some of the sky ones its a choice of what will you look at the castle or the sky. I think when watching it on video it helps since your view is naturally fixed and framed so you don't focus on the castle as much as you do in real life.
Second is the flat nature of the hub. This show was inspired by the Paris show but the Paris castle is up on a hill. Magic Kingdom's castle is only just barely raised. So unless you are blessed with height or standing in the right place the bottom of the castle can be blocked from view. While they do their best to keep the main action where everyone can see it that doesn't mean they didn't put effort into the bottom. When Tiana is sing I love that the bottom of the projection is of a porch with wrought iron filigree which says New Orleans to me.
Third is the scene transitions, I feel like some of the transitions are a little jarring. I don't know why a musical bridge or small visual element could of been used to aid some transitions.
Finally I wish Disney parks blog would release the stained glass castle as a wall paper. As a long time Kingdom Hearts fan I am drawn to anything that references that so I love towards the end when the castle is covered in stain glass representations of the characters.
I hope that everyone gets to see the show in person since this is one that I feel the videos don't do justice.
HEA has a story - the same story as wishes...
but HEA has a better take away at the end..
while wishes said, make a wish and your dreams will come true, HEA tells you to go out and make it happen....that YOU make your own happily ever after....
i totally love that....much better than to just make a wish and hope your dreams will come true....that you're the key to your own magic....that you can make your own happily ever after....very nice...and very true...
