Happiest Haunts Tour and Party Tickets

I have a question that may be a little complicated and not even possible (ticket related) ...

We are booked to go on the Happiest Haunts Ultimate Tour, which includes party tickets on (obviously) a Halloween Party night. My question is, now that Disneyland is no longer offering ParkHopper ticket upgrades (see this thread for details), would it be possible to join the tour (which starts at the same time as regular entrance for the party would, 3 PM) and make that our "non-ticket" day, since we are one day short for our full stay?

I know trying to keep my five-year-old out of the parks on arrival day will be basically impossible, especially when we will likely be in Anaheim before noon, but there's really no other "good" day to not go, other than our party day.

Will this work? Has anyone done it? (Gone on the tour with just their party ticket, not using a Parkhopper entrance day.)

I'm still gonna try and see if we can upgrade, given that we bought tickets before the no-upgrading policy went into effect, but if we can't, I'd like to have a back-up plan.

Thanks for any info anyone can provide!

I would talk to a CM about the tour. You probably are okay with the HP ticket as long as the tour stats in DL. You would need the PH to go to DCA, which is usually part of the tour. I think you could request staying at DL only.

Just to update ... We did this without issue. We picked up our tour tickets a few days prior and the Halloween party tickets came with it. We entered the park at 3 PM, took the tour and did go into DCA without a problem. The tour escorts you in, and out, of California Adventure (you are never on your own there) and no tickets were asked for ... Though they do have you use your Halloween party ticket to get back into Disneyland for the night. You mileage may vary, but it worked for us, and at least one other group in our party stated they had done the same thing.

Where did you pick up the tickets for the tour at? We are doing the Ultimate Experience on Friday. How was the tour?

You collect them at Tour Guide Gardens. There is a kiosk in between City Hall and the Newstand as soon as you enter the park. (That is also where you meet for the tours.)

As for the tour's value ... I think it depends heavily on the cast members you get and what you hope to get it out of it. We had "Betsy" and "Gracie" and they were a lot of fun, especially for the kids in our group. (I was, at first, unimpressed, by "Betsy," but she really grew on me and my son ADORED her.) If you're doing it just to ride the rides (Haunted Mansion Holiday, Big Thunder Mountain, Matterhorn, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and Tower of Terror, I believe were the ones we hit) with little or no wait, that also works and, when it's busy like it was during our stay, could be of significant value right there, but unless you're little, the tour's "storyline" isn't all that interesting. You also get a pin, a button and a couple of treats. Our tour lasted about four hours, therefore cutting into about an hour of party time, though I didn't really feel like we were missing much as it took until probably two hours after the party started for the crowds to start to thin ... Meaning I think it takes Disneyland HALF the party time to actually clear the park of non-party guests.
