Happier'n a Tornado in a Trailer Park: A Pre-Trip Journal Updated w/link to TR p 11

I'm having the laundry dilema also. When it was just dh & I last year I spent 3 hrs doing 2 loads.

Now, see, that is exactly why I don't want to do laundry. 3 hours on 2 loads... that's just insane. Maybe I can swing another pack of underwear and socks for each person into the budget....

This one keeps getting more and more expensive as it is LOL

Ain't that the truth. Placed our Garden Grocer order the other day -- must have our Pepsi One and my Diet Rite. Now I need mister fans and more undies for everyone. It's the never ending budget drain.

Don't be to hard on DH for his gray hair. I've shaved my head for 7 years and on a dare decided to grow mine out again. I found out I have less and what I have is gray. At least he still has all of his.

I saw you're doing a Locks of Love challenge. That is such a great thing to be doing! And yes, I often say, better gray than bald.

WHen I first opened up this pre-trip report, I thought I recognized yoru face. :thumbsup2
Now, I figure it is from one of your phots in Simple Scrapbooks! I love to scrapbook as well, but I am artistically challenged so the simplier the better. Thanks for sharing your page, and hopefully you will share ones that you create for this trip. Come on, I bet you already have the scrapbook album for this trip started already as well, don't ya!! :rotfl:

Just say no to the laundry thing. I hate to do laundry at home, but it really seems a waste on vacation. We were there for 15 days last year and barely scraped by, but we made it with no laundry.

I am excited for your trip. I stayed at POR in builiding 15 for my last birthday. Well not for my last birhday ever, just the last one I have had so far. :confused3

This report is making me lol. I have not read a report in a while and I am glad I bumped in to yours. I will be at wdw next week (beginning on the 3rd). PM me if you want a fairy godmother postcard or anything.

I look forward to more. I have all of these unanswered questions. . . . .Will the shorts really quick-dry? Will the new grass survive the summer?. . . Will Dan dye his hair?. . . .Will Tater get on RnR?. . . .Will they get the cake(I vote yes)?. . . The answers to all of these intriguing questions and more coming soon in the future updates!:surfweb:

PS--join us in the evening chat sometime--you seem like a hoot and would fit right in!

It could be that, but I also tend to plaster myself all over the interent. If you're on any scrapbooking boards, you may have seen me there at one time. I'm TeacherKim or MissKim on most of those.

Come on, I bet you already have the scrapbook album for this trip started already as well, don't ya!! :rotfl:

I don't have the album started, but digital scrapbooking has this wonderful product called "templates". All you have to do is insert your photos and your favorite elements and the page is done. Makes things go very quickly. I have a couple hundred of those saved on my external hard drive, just waiting for all those great Disney photos.

I tried really hard to talk Dan into this, but he's just not going for it. Of course, he's not the one who's going to be doing laundry, either, is he? I figure for every load I do, that's one mixed drink he owes me. And I will collect.

Ah yes, all those questions and more will be answered soon. We're at 30 days today and I'm starting to get all jittery and excited! As for chat... well, I'm a lot wittier when I can have some time to think and edit my writing. But I may have to stop by. I'm needing something to keep my mind off the jitters!

Dateline: March 9, 2007

OK, I know I said I was going to try to only update every 2 weeks. But something happened tonight. Something big.

Get home from work. Go on our daily 1 1/2 mile walk, my husband, myself and Kiah. And the dog. Talk a bit about Disney while we're walking, as we always do.

Before we left, I had slipped a ham and scalloped potato casserole in the oven. When we got home, there were still at least 20 minutes left.

I sit down in front of the computer and start surfing around the internet.

With about 10 minutes left before dinner, I pop some green beans in the microwave.

Somewhere in the next 4 minutes, I decided to check our flights. The link is there under my Disney bookmarks and I try to remember to check it every week or so. Airlines change flights routinely, even though Midwest isn't one known to frequently mess with flight schedules.

Go through the routine, expecting just to check and everything's fine.

Except I get a big red message that tells me that yes, our flights have indeed changed and I needed to call the flight scheduling desk. Or something like that.

So dinner is forgotten and I'm on the phone. Dan is sitting watching TV, cuz that's what he does.

First, the good news. Our original flight had us getting to Orlando at 7:15 pm. I'm a good Disney planner and I've read all the information that says that getting in later is bad. All the good rooms will be gone if you get there late. But what could a girl do? I wanted a nonstop, and that's when the nonstop landed.

New flight? Lands at 12:35. Yeah, that one is definitely doable. Leaves at 9:10 am, so we'd need to either spend the night close to the airport or plan to get up at 2 am. So you know I was on the internet as soon as I got done chewing, trying to find an airport hotel. Which was not easy, I might add. We're flying out on Memorial Day, apparently that's a busy weekend for hotels. I never would have guessed.

Then, the bad news. Originally, our return flight left Orlando at 8 pm. New flight is scheduled for 1:20 pm. Man, that's not good news at all. We gained a couple of hours the first day, but by the time you figure transportation to the resort, checking in, unpacking... not really equivalent to the full day we'd be losing at the end.

But I take it and begin thanking the nice lady. Then she tells me she has to offer me all my options. Since they're shortening our trip by a day, we could fly out the next morning at 7 am. Landing at 8:45 am in our home state.

What? We can add a night at Disney? In fact, you're practically begging us to do it, aren't you?

Sign me up and call me giddy!

I can't even remember eating. I'm sure I did. There was food on my plate and a few minutes later, it was gone. But I can't remember it. The gears in my mind were whirring too loudly.

I emailed my travel agent and asked her to get us a room only reservation for our last night. Thought about trying to add another package night, but we really don't need the dining plan. Except she talked me into adding the dining plan. I mean, we're going to eat, right? So instead of having to mess with checking out and checking into a room only, we just added a package night after all.

Called my sister, to tell her that her flights have also changed and she needs to call. The changes actually affect her much more because they're not staying as long as we are and didn't have the luxury of adding another night.

A half dozen phone calls later, I'm not sure what she'll end up doing. As for us, we're debating going to a water park on our arrival day. I don't know... it's Memorial Day and I'm afraid of crowds. But will the crowds really be at a water park in the late afternoon? We can't do a real theme park because we've already got all those days planned. And now our final day will actually be a complete last day at a park. I'm thinking Spectro and Wishes that night. We'll have to get up ever so early to catch the ME bus back to the airport (4 am?!?), but we can sleep later, right?

Now, I swear no more updates for 2 weeks. In fact, 2 weeks from now is our Spring Break. We'll be on a short little trip to Branson. And I imagine I'll have some updates when we get back. After all, there's both a Disney Store and a Disney Store outlet in town. I'm sure to add a little Disney to my life.

OK, can't post an update without a photo, right? So here's another layout with our 04 Disney photos. I actually just did this one recently (the one from the other day is a couple of years old). I wanted to use new product, but I was in a Disney mood, so this is what I did:

Kim, I feel your laundry pain. I hate to return home with suitcases full of dirty clothes but doing laundry on the trip isn't much better. My plan is to get up early and do it one morning while the rest are sleeping. I'm a giver like that! ;)

I love your scrapbook pages! :thumbsup2

I'm considering the get up early thing, too. Get up early, throw laundry in the washer, walk over to the food court and get some snacks, return to laundry area, sit down with my iPod in my ears, a book on my lap and some caffeine at my wrist. Honestly, that does sound like a little slice of heaven. Me time. I'm gonna need it. So I'm selfish, definitely not a giver. ;)

I'm so jealous that you have less than a month left!

Keep me updated about your Branson trip, btw! If nothing else, I'm handy for getting people into stuff for free!

I do whatever I can to avoid doing laundry on my trip, but the way you described it doesn't sound too bad! Of course, there's also something to be said for buying a bunch of new clothes at WDW!

Big schedule changes, but woohoo for having that last day change to a full one :) Not sure about the WP crowds for Memorial Day - I think that by mid afternoon, they'd be clearing out regardless, but I'm not sure.

It seems unreal that I have less than a month left! I've got today off (kids have school though), so I just got off the phone with a couple of Branson shows, making reservations for the trip Dan and I are taking alone in July. I'm debating whether I can make him go to a 10 am show when we've already got 3 pm and 8 pm shows planned! We're seeing 2 old favorites and 2 new shows, so I'm excited.

As for the laundry thing, Dan actually suggested yesterday that I take deodorant into the parks and we can just buy shirts if we get too hot and sweaty after a day in the parks. Hey, I'm not gonna argue. I'll wash underthings if it means that he'll buy me new tops!

I don't think I updated this anywhere in my future installments, but we're now thinking that on our arrival day, we'll check in and then head straight for the Boardwalk and ESPN Club. I have an Ohana's ADR for that night, but I don't think we'll be able to wait that long to eat (and after listening to the Unplugged podcast this morning, not sure I want to eat there anyway). So it looks like no waterpark for us on arrival day, but the Boardwalk and ESPN Club are definitely on our list.

PS Great new page!

Thanks so much! I'm scrapping right now, hoping to get another Disney page done to post here!

Um, do tell, please...

Um, do tell, please...

I listened to The DIS Unplugged this morning because they have an Ohana's review. It wasn't good. You can listen here. I don't think that what they have to say necessarily rules out the restaurant, it's just that when they were describing the meal, it wasn't what I wanted after a day of travelling.

Thanks. Have you ever been to 'Ohana before? We have and loved it. I'm wondering if the podcast describes something new or just what we are used to. I guess I'll have to listen to it huh? ;) It'll have to wait though - the laundry beckons and try as I may, I can't ignore it any longer. Unless I want my family to go around town naked.

Hey, how does the topic keep getting back to laundry in here?? :)

Have you ever been to 'Ohana before?
No, we haven't been. It's always been iffy due to Dan's sensitive stomach and the fact that Tater is pretty much a vegetarian. The review basically says the food isn't that good and it's really loud; they just didn't enjoy the meal. I'm thinking -- just got done teaching, spent all day on a plane -- loud and not that great just doesn't sound worth the trip.

Hey, how does the topic keeping get back to laundry in here?? :)

I'm thinking of calling the actual trip report "Kim's review of the POR laundry rooms." :rotfl2:

Oh my goodness, I'm cringing - I was typing faster than my brain can think and made a huge major grammatical error, and now you've quoted it for all eternity:sad2: :headache: Of course, I meant how does it keep getting back to laundry, not the other way around :rolleyes1 I really need to read my posts before I hit submit :rotfl:

I've been making typing errors all day. I'm just pretending I don't see them....

Laundry? What's that? Must be a woman thing. Men's clothing cleans itself and puts itself away (doesn't it?).

Loving the report. Don't know if I can wait for two weeks. That's kind of like an eternity (or fourteen days!) Later!

:rotfl2: I will say, Dan does put away his laundry and mine. I fold it on our bed, so he can either put it away or sleep on it. I figure I'm doing the loading/transferring/folding, he can put it away.

Dateline: April Fools!

Well, we are home from our annual Spring Break trip to Branson. I'd tell you all about it, but I just finished posting my trip report on my blog, so if you really want to read about it, let me know and I'll link you up. Let's just say the adult beverages were yummy, the Haygoods are still mighty fine, and I came home more relaxed than I was when we left.

And anyway, this is a Disney trip report, right?

Since my last journal entry, I've actually been fairly busy and haven't had much time to think about trip planning.

OK, that's a lie. I think about it a lot. But I haven't done any major planning.

Here's the big events of the last 3 weeks. OK, the big Disney-related events of the last two weeks.

1. While in Branson, we picked up a set of Incredible t-shirts for my mom, my sister, my BIL and Princess Liv. Couldn't find anything in Princess Em's baby size, but I'm getting ready to check online. If all else fails, I figure she can wear red. So yes, we will be the dorkiest family ever on our Studios day. But the pictures are gonna rock.

2. I've been driving myself crazy for weeks, trying to find an airport hotel for the night before we leave. I knew where I wanted to stay, but it was booked -- only king or smoking rooms available. Last night I decided to check one more time and they had a double queen suite, non-smoking available. I snapped it right up, hardly believing my luck. So we're staying at a Comfort Suites, on the same road as the airport. This will allow us a few more moments of sleep, and a chance to eat some breakfast before we leave for the airport. Which is important, because I've got a son who has horrible motion sickness, which is somewhat eased when he has food in his stomach. I thought maybe he'd outgrow the motion sickness, or that it was all in his head, but the events of our Spring Break trip have proven that the boy has serious issues with motion sickness and they are not in his head.

So the night before is taken care of, and we have matching shirts. Exciting stuff, huh?

It was almost really exciting around here.

Over Spring Break, we stayed in the condo of an acquaintance of my husband's. We loved condo life. A room for the adults, a room for the kids.

Two bathrooms.

A washer and dryer at my disposal.

Came home with a huge suitcase... full of clean clothes.

I started thinking about how silly it was to cram our growing family of 5 into one hotel room at Port Orleans.

Really, how crazy is that?

We have almost daily fights over the bathroom at home, and we have 2 bathrooms. How will we ever fit in one room with one bathroom?

I'm the type of person who needs alone time each and every day. If I don't get it, I get cranky pants. And cranky pants have no place at Disney.

I started thinking about all those great rental homes in the Disney area. Even sent out some "feeler" emails to get prices.

And then I decided I just have too much on my plate right now to even think about canceling our all inclusive package and trying to piece it all together. I just can't do it.

On the flip side, I may come back from my trip and write the first "I discovered that the straight jackets at Disney are not made from Mickey Head fabric" trip report.

But at least it'll be entertaining.

Big plans for today -- organize all the things we are setting aside for Disney. We bought another 4 bags full of stuff yesterday. Mostly underthings and socks. Because I did decide that I could not survive the week with Crocs alone. No matter how much I wanted to do it. It's scary when the pile of things for your trip outgrows an entire closet.

Especially when you're all staying in one room.

Heaven help us.

OK, back to real time: So the journal I've been writing and posting here is about to catch up with my real life. I think I've got 2 more installments, and then we'll be all up to speed and ready to have a couple of weeks of real-time updates before we actually go on this fun, fun trip.

And here's your layout for today. Again, it's not that old, maybe a month or so. Pretty much sums up my feelings about riding Tower of Terror this trip:
