oh, whatta bummer!! the way they are advertising it on disney channel makes it sound open...
so, forgive my ignorance, but it's really a taping for the tv show? not a "concert" at all?
My understanding is that it is a taping for a tv program. They do this sort of thing quite often here and they are always closed sets. Although they want extras and try to make it seem like guest visiting WDW were just lucky enough to be there when the taping occurred, it is usually an event where the extras were recruited. It gives them so much more control. Can you imagine what it would be like if just any set of guests were there? They would have people who did not like that the event was happening. They would have kids younger than they want on the set, etc.
My DD and I've been contacted several times for these type of events. We were contacted for extras for the Lights, Motors, Action commercial where the dad gives the teenage son keys to their car but takes them back after seeing his son's reaction to the show. DD was supposed to be in a taping of Soarin with Hayden Christensen for the Christmas Parade special, but Hayden canceled at the last minute. I was asked to be an extra for a Tiger Woods commercial filmed at one of the WDW golf courses. These events are all arranged through a local agent. Normally, you don't get paid. You get a free one day pass to a WDW park. Since we have APs it isn't that big a deal to us. Often, events happen in the middle of the night so they don't have to close the park. For the Hayden Christensen thing, we were supposed to be there a 4am for the taping. Obviously, this taping at TL needs to be during the day.
Next week, I may be going to a taping of a Food Network special at Universal. It is one of those competitions where the chefs compete to win $10,000. This one is on making a cake that looks like a cartoon character. This is one of the perks of living in Central Florida.
DD's agent was also recruiting musicians between 18 and 26 years old for the Hannah Montanna thing. They wanted four people who knew enough about instruments to fool a TV audience that they were actually playing the instruments. They won't really be playing them. They just have to look the part. Unfortunately, DD doesn't know any instrument well enough.
