Hanger 98 at Castaway Cay

Anyone have the scoop on what this is and who is it for?
Per Google

"Hangar 98" is likely a misunderstanding of the MYAG airport code for the former airstrip on Disney's Castaway Cay, which was built by Frank Barber for drug smuggling before Disney bought the island. The island's history includes being a filming location for Splash and Pirates of the Caribbean, but "Hangar 98" is not the name of an official structure there.

MYAG is still an active runway per Flight Aware and I'll bet DISNEY uses it if needed.

Saw on FB that it is going to be the new BBQ restaurant for serenity bay and the new family cabanas. Not sure that I like that it won’t be adult only anymore for lunch.

We saw it last month and it looked almost ready to open. It is directly behind the current serenity bay BBQ.

That's what I heard but wasn't sure if it was fact. Hopefully they still keep the adult area adult.

Yeah I got the same. Google's AI isn't the most accurate at times.

Wait, so no more adult-only dining on Castaway??? Way to ruin a perfect beach day!

Them adding family cabanas near the adult beach is legitimately my least favorite thing that DCL has ever done. I don't want to deal with kids at Castaway, and frankly cabanas are overrated and people need to just get over themselves if they can't book one of the existing ones.

Hoping this is just a rumor, but I will say I had the same thought while eating lunch there last month. Hangar 98 towers over the original serenity bay BBQ. It is way too big to just be for serenity bay and too close to the new family cabanas for them to not eat there. DCL just continues to make the adult only cruising experience less.

We just sailed on the destiny to lookput amd castaway - shame to see the food at Lookoutbhas been dumbed down to the same pffering as Castaway - no more rice bowls - just the same BBQ as Castaway

I thought the same thing too when we were having lunch on CC last month. We don't need anymore cabanas.

So, someone in one of my cruise FB groups said that Hangar 98 will indeed be for the adults at Serenity Bay and for the guests in the family cabanas. There will be 2 separate areas - so adults will still have an adult only dining experience. Hope this turns out to be the case!

We just got off the Destiny and thought the food at Castaway was the worst ever, we have never loved it but this time it was just bad.

I was at Castaway on Sunday and also thought that the food wasn't great. The burger was cold and hard. Nothing else seemed great.

I saw a little bit of Hanger 98. The walkway was wide open so I started walking on the path. Then a castmember came over and told me the area wasn't open yet. They said it would open on December 7. Looking at everything, I'm not excited about the kids that will now be in the area because of the cabanas.

Can you say a bit more about this? What was the issue? Cold food? Long wait times? Bland foods? Too spicy? Not enough choices?

I was just at Castaway on Friday, Dec. 5 and Hangar 98 was open.

It has a some overlap with Cookies BBQ (burgers, potato salad etc.) but also some dishes that I thought were unique to Lookout Cay like the grilled snapper and island curry. They had bbq ribs, some kind of seafood dirty rice that was very tasty, and ribeye steaks that looked really good.

I think it was the first day or even just a trial run. The layout inside seemed temporary and was only using about half the space of the building.

The signs said 18+ dining, but I don’t know if that will last. The new family cabanas are right next door. Those new cabanas were also in some test opening state with just Disney execs and families using them.

Less options, the burger was over cooked and dry, no hot dogs, they changed the corn bread , no quinoa thing I always remember liking , no corn on the cob
