I swear I'm about ready to make a sign & keep it in my car. The next time an idiot on a cell phone cuts me off, I'm going to pass them at the next safest opportunity & flash them the sign.

Must of had a record number of them today while running errands. :sad2:

OOhhh...let me tell you, being from MA it is really dangerous. Even in the supermarket parking lot, I was almost hit as someone was so busy flapping on their cell!!

We are now in CA and on July 1st Gov Arnie signed a bill that banned cell phone use while driving. It is AWESOME!!! :thumbsup2 And the Chips are handing out warnings and fines like CRAZY!!! Everyone seems to be adhering to this new law. :thumbsup2

I was in CA in May/June before the law was put into effect. I thought hands-free talking was allowed after 7/1? NO?

Its ALL cell phone use? Cool. Because some people apparently can't talk & drive at the same time whether they are holding the phone or not.

Ohhhh, Splsh, I am sorry, YES indeed, HANDS FREE ONLY!!! I am sorry, I should not have said "banned cell phone use".....! :headache:

DH & I went out and bought "blue tooths" and really like them esp when you are talking and you stop to get out of the car....the hands free is awesome!!! I never had a blue tooth in MA. Having the blue tooth allows you to continue talking even if you have your hands full of groceries or you are pumping gas etc!!! :goodvibes

I saw your exact words in a window cling on the back window of a pick-up today. I don't know if anyone will heed it, but I would like to add "Stop Texting and Drive!" because a few weeks ago a kid almost came over on top of me in my lane and when I looked over, you betcha, he was texting-and never even knew he had almost hit me!!

It's scary when you see people text while driving! :sad2:

You know what I don't get--a lot of times I see people make a call as they are pulling out of a parking space. If the call is so important that it can't wait until they get home, can't they just make the call while their car is still parked? :confused3

All for the hands free talking... but you should NEVER pump gas and talk on the cell phone!!! This could lead to bad things! Please be careful!

I too can't stand when someone is driving and talking and not really watching where they are going. It's crazy how many people do it and don't stay in their lane, or go way slow... hang up and drive! Or at least talk hands free!:thumbsup2

I am with you SplshMt it is horrible.

I drive home on a major highway in NJ with trucks and all and the ones that are on the phone are the ones that usually cause the accidents.

I wish more Cops would pull people over for that!!

Well DH & I thought it was odd that Gov. Arnie signed into place the "hands free" bill but not the "texting" bill. Then in Sept. CA had a horrific train accident and it was determined the Train Conductor was texting someone.

Sooo....."California drivers chafing at the ban on holding cellphones can soon forget about texting, too: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has banned motorists from sending, writing or reading messages on electronic devices starting Jan. 1.

Schwarzenegger signed legislation Wednesday that imposes a $20 fine for a first offense of texting while driving and a $50 fine for any subsequent violation."

:thumbsup2

I haven't experienced people texting while driving. Yikes! What are they thinking?! I do see people talking on their cell phones though, despite the laws. Luckily it isn't too many of them but it's still so dangerous.

I never have but I do see people doing it all the time....can I ask why is it dangerous to pump gas and talk on a blue tooth? :confused3

Just wanted to add that I think those fines in CA are ridiculously low.

I believe it's the static electricity mixed with gas fumes, but I could be wrong. There are signs at the gas pumps where I live warning people not to do it.

That's what I thought it was too. No electronic devices while pumping.

I got the idea from a bumper sticker my brother has, but it also says something about where he would put your phone for you. ;) :rotfl:

I figured it I held up the sign to the offender, they would have a better chance at seeing it.

I completely agree on the texting while driving too. How could I forget that one!

YIKES!! I think my DS in MA does it all the time....I will have to ask him and mention this to my DS here in CA!!! Thanks.

A woman in our town was ticketed after she hit a tree because she was texting while driving. Best part? Her dh was the one to ticket her. Yup, he's a cop and he got the call. I'd love to know what their pillow talk was like that night.

If I were to hang a sign in my car it would read, "Hang up and drive your minivan." My dd is getting old enough to drive and as a pre-driving exercise we actually kept track for a while of bonehead driving. With one exception, all of the situations involved 'moms' driving mini-vans and talking on their cell phones.

MytheBusters did a piece on this & found this was not true as well.

Snopes hasn't said that there isn't a risk. They have said that, in their opinion, the news reports that have linked cell phones to fires at gas stations have been erroneous, even though the police said that link is valid. This all stems from a few cases where later investigations revealled that it wasn't the cell phone after all. In the article, it also says that researchers say there is a risk and that cell phone companies list such usage as a small risk. It also lists numerous companies/countries that ban cell phone usage at the pump.

So, at best, all this article tells us is that the results are inconclusive.

When was the last time that you read a story of a gas station going up in flames because of someone using a cell phone, or for that matter leaving their engine running?
