....don't you just hate those dads who come into Triton's for dinner wearing a t-shirt and shorts. (kids I can overlook, but a man looks just plain stupid):bounce:

I wish they would simply turn people away when they are not appropriately dressed. They could gently let them know there is a dress code, and that dinner is being served at the buffet for those who would prefer to not dress up. Slightly underdressed is one thing (blazer and chinoes with open collar dress shirt on formal night for example) but shorts and t on any night should be turned away.

We did see people turned away from Palo's for being inappropraitely dressed.

Not trying to turn this into a debate, but, there is no dress CODE for the ship. There is suggested attire. Personally, I love dressing myself and my family to the nines when the opportunity presents itself, but it is not for me to decide how others present themselves. Truthfully, when I'm on that ship, it is ALL about me. I simply don't pay attention to what others are wearing, or not wearing. People come from all over to relax on that ship. This is no reflection on them whatsoever, IMO. BTW, I saw a gentleman at Palo on my last trip wearing jeans and a NASCAR T-shirt. He was hardly shaven, and looked quite hungover ( This was at brunch, and the only reason I noticed was because he was seated directly across from us in front of the window). He received excellent service and was treated like royalty. Made me think maybe this guy OWNED a team and just needed to be a regular guy for a while. Some people spend every day dressed in suits, and attend way too many black tie affairs, and just want to dress down once in a while. This shouldn't spoil YOUR fun.

The first night of the cruise is also considered casual since some folks do not receive their luggage in time to change. I like to try and give folks the benefit of the doubt. :)

I may be in the minority here, but I really do not enjoy dressing up especially while on vacation. We do, of course, follow suggested dress codes but I have to admit to being a bit envious of people who, for whatever reason, come to dinner in whatever makes them comfortable. They're enjoying the cruise as much as the person who is decked out to the nines. Some people love to dress up, some don't. I think this is the reason why I have no interest in trying another cruise line - Disney is accepting of all types of people.

Wow, Anne, what were they wearing to be turned away from Palo?!
We have seen people in there in blue jeans with bare feet and in jeans and a hot pink t-shirt (the husband) and a sun dress with no nylons and with rubber flip-flops on her feet (the wife). If they weren't turned away, I can't even imagine what it would take!

While I do not feel that vacationers should be expected to be 'dressed to the nines'..... Jeez, am I the ONLY one who thinks that at least a decent shirt and shoes ought to be required, yes REQUIRED..., in a restaurant like Palo?

Is there not some middle ground here?

Ahhhhh, don't you just love the aroma of a halfway dressed, unshaven, hungover, man along with your hot bread and butter ....

Neither do I. It's personal choice.

Probably not.

Didn't ruin my day.

Having said that, I wandered into Topsiders one afternoon to grab a quick bite to eat in my bathing suit, with a wrap, but bare feet. I was incredibly uncomfortable! :o
I have seen others do this, though not many. I was taken by surprise by how akward I felt. Again, personal choice. Not something I would do again, but to each his own, unless explicitly stated otherwise. As always JMHO.

Barb-

Jeans and grungy t shirt for him, jeans and tube top for her, both looked like they had just gotten done cleaning the garage, This was for dinner on the Mgic.

Saw another couple turned away when they came in pushing a baby stroller.

While I can certainly understand that some people don't like to dress up, especially while on vacation, by the same token when you book you should be aware of the requested dress. There are a bazillion vacation options out there, and if you are not going to wnt to make the effort to at least be close, perhaps choosing a different vacation would be a better idea.

Anne

I also noticed quite a few people in Titons with Jeans and T-Shirts on (late seating). It made me wonder if they actually looked at the papers that said what was requested. I was in a suit and tie, so were some others, but I'd have to say that the majority weren't dressed up.

Anne,

Of course they know what is expected dress, unless they are completely illiterate..... They simply choose to be selfish and immature and to show no regard for what is considered socially acceptable.

There are always some out there like that. Ex. "But, I didn't want to take my precious time to go back to my stateroom and change". "But, I didn't want to waste my precious time getting to the WDW parade route early to get a good spot..." "But, you know, 'I' paid to be here and to enjoy it too, so every one else just step aside, 'I' have the right to push in front of you, or sit at the table right in front of you....... etc.... etc....

It is the classic debate argument!!!!! Heard it all before!

Very well put, Wishing on a Star! This can go around and around and never end up with the right answers or a answer. Everyone has different opinions.

But my problem is that DH will be willing to dress in a nicely pressed shirt, tie and slacks but there is no way he'll go for a suit! I don't mind putting a nice "church" dress on for dinner myself. So, should I not do Triton's or will we be okay?

Take a look at the Daily Navigators at Dave's fabulous Dave's Disney Cruise Line Tribute Site (a wonderful resource for planning your DCL cruise).

For dinner, recent Daily Navigators indicate:
  • Disney Wonder<br>- Triton's - "Suggested Dress: Jacket recommended, no shorts or jeans please"<br>- Parrot Cay and Animator's Palate: "Suggested Dress: Casual, no shorts or jeans please"<br>- Palo - "Suggested Dress: Jacket recommended, no shorts or jeans please"
  • Disney Magic (except on formal, semi-formal, and tropical night)<br>- Lumiere's, Parrot Cay and Animator's Palate: "Suggested Dress: Casual, no shorts or jeans please"<br>- Palo - "Suggested Dress: Jacket recommended, no shorts or jeans please"
There's no reason to wear bring a suit on the Disney Wonder, unless someone wants to.

A sport coat is useful -- if for no other reason than to deal with the sometimes excessive air conditioning.

I believe Lumiere's has the same dress code as Triton's. I agree, the Navigators on Dave's site don't make this very clear. DCL chooses to indicate the overall theme, with "Resort Casual" being the default when it's not Formal, Semi-Formal or Tropical night, but specifying jackets, etc. for Palo. However, they should make an effort to indicate that Lumiere's is also more formal.

In the "DRESS CODE INFO" thread at the top of the page, Webmaster Michelle reports from the DCL web site:

For Lumière's and Triton's restaurants and our adults-only alternative dinner restaurant, Palo, it is suggested that men wear jackets and ladies wear dresses or pantsuits.
This info is indicated in the documents we recently received for our Magic cruise as well, and we're certainly planning appropriately.

Just wanted to make sure no one gets the wrong message!

Wow, I hope my Family will be dressed nice enough not to be judged.

I've read what is appropriate to wear while on a cruise and all I can say is I will make sure we're dressed for it. We enjoy dressing up anyway and the last thing I care about while on vacation having a good time is what other people are wearing. There are always going to be people who choose to be different.......who cares?
