Hands free cel phone-Effective 12:01 a.m. July 1, 2008

HAHA

I'm what I like to call an 'inbetweener'.

I'm 25. My husband was the only kid in school with a cell phone. He got made fun of for it.

NOW, they ALL have them and get made fun of if they DON'T.

As for texting..I LOVE it, however, I think around my age and younger are the ones who do it the most).

I always hang up when I'm going through the checkout at the store. If it's an important call I always apologize to the cashier (and feel guilty for at least a day after LOL)

I read the first offense was $20?

I agree with the texting. I've done it, and I admit, it's hard! I'm afraid to now, seriously, I can't do both, I don't have the mind power for that stuff. And it's scary how many people get in accidents due to texting/talking on cells.

The ticket is $25, but with court costs the first one is $76 the 2nd offense $190 ($50 plus fees)

I saw a lady pulled over today for talking on her cellphone.

I love how you can't talk but you can text message. That just makes too much sense!!!

I was listening to the radio this morning and the DJ was interviewing a CHP. They stated that if you are caught dialing/texting you can still recieve a ticket for driving under unsafe conditions.

Actually texting while driving has been illegal in WA State for quite a while now...I am glad this cell phone thing will be in place. We live on a military base, and it's been illegal here to talk on your phone while driving for about a year - $50 fine...and they can pull you over for it if they see it. Problem is...I see people ALL the time with cell phones to their ears...it didnt' seem to help...I guess then figure "if I see a cop car, I'll put the phone down"

For me...I LOVE to text...it works well for me and dh at work - sometimes he can't talk on the phone...I never do it while driving...well, except if I'm sitting at a red light I may.

When I get in to the cashier, I get off the phone...it's common courtesy in my book. but I love to keep in contact with friends and family who live far away - which is most of them - since dh is in the military. And when I'm travelling, sometimes talking really helps - if I start to get tired while I'm driving, if I talk to someone on the phone, it helps keep me awake...I am more alert.

If you are texting and they catch you driving with the phone in your hand, they will pull you over, so if you are texting, it is the same as talking on it , at least that is what I heard.

Yep, this is what the CHP confirmed. I was watching the news last night and the news crew rode with a cop as he pulled people over- one of them was a texter!

It's definitely not illegal in LA...or it wasn't until today anyway. :)

Well then I guess the officers that pulled over my co-workers 4 different times (1 time for 1 person and 3 times for the other) were lying. LOL Because I could hear everything that the officer(s) were saying and they clearly said "I'm ticketing you because it's illegal to drive and talk on your phone without a hands free device". I remember it clearly because I teased them about it for a long time. :rotfl:

Maybe they were just jumping the gun a little bit. I was under then impression that this took effect first LAST July, then I thought it was January and not finally it it THIS July.

No, this was over a year ago, he's been using his bluetooth since and no more tickets. LOL I talk to the one guy on the phone probably a hundred times a day, not kidding, he got pulled over 3 different times and was ticketed. It was probably last July though....weird.....

yeah another dumb law:rotfl: its still legal to read the paper, eat or get dressed. and if you have a nextel i'm sure theres a loophole and i know us with cb's are excempt:rotfl:
