Handling the Florida heat

I just let that sweat roll like condensation on the side of a glass of sweet tea.

My strategy is: Wipe and repeat over and over. Be sure to drink twice as much WATER as you might normally drink. Take frequent breaks in the shade or AC. Also I cannot stress how important a hat is in order to shield the sun a bit.

We resisted summer trips for many years until going in August two years ago. The temps were near 100 most days but we managed OK.

I was walking around Fantasy land yesterday morning, about 10:15 am after a park opening at 9. I discovered I am a back sweater as I felt it rolling down. I also discovered that very few carts sell Coke Zero, because I was looking for a bottle. And as I walked past Pinnochio's a mom Announced very loudly "ok, it's time to head back to the room to go to the pool, you are all too hot and we all know what happens when we get hot. Cranky people". So they headed towards the castle. And that was one hour and 15 minutes into their park day.

Wear comfy clothes and shoes, a white or light colored hat, hair up off your neck, and drink as much as you can.

We went in January 2014 and February this year. Unfortunately due to school schedules and nephew getting older, we will only be able to go on breaks/summer. We know there is no way we can be in the parks all day as in the winter months. We don't like the heat, but think we would rather deal with it than intense crowds (Christmas or Easter) so we are thinking last week of August next year.

I know it's a ways off, but our preliminary plan is go to AM EMH on the days they are offered. Get as much done there as we can in a couple hours, then hop to another park for FP starting around 11. Take a break from there at around 1-2. Head somewhere in the evening (getting there between 5/6) and take it easy.

We figure our mornings are going to be rushing from ride to ride. Then to another park for more rides. After our break and return in the pm we are thinking will be our take it all in and not worry as much about riding.

I know it's still going to be hot/humid early, but figure it'll probably be the best time of day to rush around. If we can get quite a bit of riding done before 10 (as we did in February) then we can take it a little easier with FP in the afternoon and no plans in he evening.

Drink lots of water in the weeks leading up to your trip. Don't wait until day of to start drinking water.

Wear a hat that offers nice shade.

Take advantage of stores to cool down.

Rest in shady spots.

Return to your hotel room midday to cool down and rest. Maybe even take a nap to recharge a bit. I'm not a fan of hitting the pool midday. It definitely cools you down, though ultimately drains even more energy.

Speaking of energy, make sure to eat.

Has anyone found Disney character shirts on DriFit/moisture wicking shirts? I would love them for my kids but haven't really seen any. Is my only option to order something from Etsy or the like?

So we are traveling in the end of August. My wife doesn't want my son missing any school so this is the best time for us to go. The issue is that I am a sweater. So I am trying to come up with ideas on how to contain this issue so that I don't look like a giant puddle. What does everyone suggest. I have heard people mention those cooling towels, but I cant remember their names. I have read the obvious suggestions of taking breaks, staying in the AC, and hydrating but what else? We will have several bottles of water and towels to help me look presentable for pictures but any other suggestions?
I'm also a huge sweater. We're going to sweat no matter what we do, right? Loose fitting, moisture-wicking clothing is our friend. And I mean for everything: shirts, shorts, underclothes, and socks. I'd rather overspend on tech clothing that actually wicks the moisture away from my body than on expensive towels. Expensive "cooling towels" work no better than an ordinary dish towel, and humidity really comprises their effectiveness. In any event, they don't stop the sweat from rolling, and this hirsute fella finds the sensation of all that wet cloth hanging around my neck to be annoying. Just my two cents about what works for me, another sweater.

We are here now and honestly I will never come back June-September. We have made the best of it, but really the heat is oppressive and just too much.

We stopped visiting anywhere in Florida from the end of May until around the frist of October years ago. I can't handle the heat. No matter what we did or where we went we were miserable.

I live in Kentucky and we get very hot and humid during the summer..but nothing like Florida..

I have never been, nor do I ever plan on being at Disney during that time. I wouldn't be able to function. We had been going to Daytona in July for several years and stopped.

Holy guacamole batman...

I was born and raised in Connecticut. I now live in Orlando. The warmer weather in Orlando lasts more months (good), and is about five (5) degrees hotter in the summer. It's about fifty (50) degrees warmer in the winter.
Humidity?? A bit more humid here but make no mistake... CT got humid as well.

It's a good trade.

I am also a heavy sweater (IMO worse being a girl!) You've been given some great suggestions! I, personally, did not like the Frog Toggs. The last thing I wanted when I was so hot was something else on me. I also had a problem with them not being able to dry completely because of the humidity and they got moldy. :crazy2:

One thing I LOVE is Nuun tablets. They come with 12 in a small tube so it doesn't take up much room and you just break one tablet in half and throw it in a bottle of water. They take a few mins to dissolve and you have flavored, electrolyte filled water without all the syrupy ness of Gatorade! One of my favorite summer heat items!!
