Hi everyone -

My elderly mother has agreed to go back to Disney with us this spring. She uses a wheelchair but can get out of it. Her real reason for needing a handicapped room is a higher toilet with a grab bar beside it.

Am I right in understanding ALL handicapped rooms at WDW have only 1 bed?

There are 4 of us traveling and we wanted to share a room to save money, but I'm guessing that isn't possible...

Are there any resorts with a regular adjoining room attached to the handicapped room?? OR, can you think of any resorts where the toilet HAS a grab bar in the regular rooms?

Thank you!

For some reason our room in Sports was a accessible room when I went in October, and it had a Queen bed in it (I think it was Queen). Not sure about the bathroom other than the shower was a walk in one with to tub and the seat.

a queen bed, bunk bed,and a double murphy bed... plus a kitchen and roll in shower.. Yes its more money, but you also get a kitchen and can save $$$ by eating breakfast there each day...

Check out the disABILITIES FAQs thread (near the top of this board or follow the link in my signature). One post is about room accommodations.
All resorts have 2 types of handicapped accessible rooms. One type has a tub with grab bars, the other type has roll in shower.
The bathrooms in the ones with grab bars are pretty much the same ize as regular bathrooms, so those rooms mostly had 2 beds.

At one point, most of the roll in shower rooms had only a king sized bed, but they have changed quite a few to have 2 beds in the last 5 years and at this point, most have both King bed and double bed rooms with roll in showers. This is even in the Value resorts, which have a smaller room size to deal with.

The post in the FAQs thread has the phone number for Special Reservations. They can help you with your questions.
You can also check a thread toward the top of this board which as information about rooms where some people have posted pictures of their rooms. Some of the posts are old, so you my see information there that talks about rooms with roll in showers having only king beds.

We are a family of five and needed an accessible room at PORS. They took care of us and we got the room we needed and we where all together.

We were a reservation of 4 adults needing a handicap room and were able to be taken care of.

We are a family of 4 with a wheelchair user who needs a fully accessible room, we have always been accommodated just fine at various resorts. There are now accessible rooms with one king bed and with 2 doubles so they can accommodate different party sizes. If you call Special Needs they will be able to help you with a reservation.

I've heard they are phasing in ADA rooms with 2 beds.

This is what we have reserved at Pop, for next month. It is different than the rooms with 1 bed and the roll-in shower. The room will have 2 beds and a regular bathroom, except for grab handles at the tub and toilet.

I reserved it on the regular reservation line-I actually got one regular room for dh, me and 2 of the kids, and the accessible for my folks and the other 2 kids. Dad has Parkinsons and walks but really needs the grab bars, but doesn't need the wheelchair room.

The HA room I had at POR had 2 beds. If I remember, it was in Parterre Place, one of the mansion buildings. It was a little surprising to get that room since I didn't need either a Handicapped room nor 2 beds (solo trip). But lovely room.
