Handicapped Parking

Hello,

We will be going to DW in a few weeks and my 80 year old parents are coming. The have a handicapped parking sign for the car. A few questions:

- We are from Canada, I assume we can use the handicapped parking sign to park at the parks?

- I assume they will direct us to the handicapped parking lot, I assume it is a lot closer to the front gate?

. . . yes, you can be directed to handicapped parking, if not full
. . . but, in most cases, it is a further walk than normal parking and riding the tram!
. . . my advice is to park as normal and ride to the front gate

When you go through the parking gates, there are lines on the side of the road that indicate where to go. I think the blue lines are the ones you will need to follow to get to HA parking at most of the parks.

If you have a mobility device for your parents, then you will need to park in HA parking area as the trams are not accessible.

MK: This is the one park that if you do not have a mobility device with you that I would suggest just parking in regular parking and taking the tram. The walk from the HA parking area can be difficult and quite long.

actually no the handicapped parking is NOT 'much closer' to the front gates of any park( especially MK where the PL is actually nowhere near the entrance)

if you are staying onsite, I would look at buses to MK as handicapped parking is still very far from monorail or ferry boat with no trams. depending on how close you get to parks opening, you should be okay with handicap parking. there are places for parking lot wheelchairs but I have found them to be empty when we got there. if you are going to need wheelchair or ECV look at renting off site, cheaper

Actually I respectfully disagree when it comes to HC parking at the Studios. We have always found that to be very close to the main entrance. And at times, we have lucked out and gotten super close at Epcot but that one can be hit or miss. I have found if you are lucky enough to get on the left side of the walkway at Epcot you will get pretty close to the entrance. I NEVER drive to MK!!

Handicap parking is closest to the entrance, but you don't get a tram to the park. It's expected that you walk from the handicap parking. Getting a parking space where you can catch a tram could be be easier; because, the drop off point is better. If your parents are using a scooter, a scooter is not allowed on those trams. If you plan early park entry the handicap parking should be accessible. If you are late risers then those handicap areas can get full.

When you pay for parking and get pass that area you will see painted blue lines on the road and that's the lane you want to be in. This is a good time to hang you placard up; so, the Disney parking attendant can see it. If it's your license plate then point to it when you get to a parking attendant; so, they can see it. Travel slowly here. There are many people walking around and such.

As another poster stated if you are onsite at Disney it could be easier to use Disney Transportation back and forth to the parks especially for the Magic Kingdom Park and Epcot.

Please keep in mind an average day of walking at Disney is 6 miles and many go beyond 10 if it's a longer day. Most of the parks are open more than 12 hours per day. If you haven't considered a scooter maybe you should for them.

We used the Handicapp parking on Thanksgiving week. Most days, we got a spot fairly close to the entrance in the morning, much farther away when we came back in the afternoon. If the parking spot was much further away, my husband dropped me near the entrance and I found a place to sit while I waited for him.
We found this worked better than waiting for a tram or getting off and on the tram.

Thanks for the replies.

They don't use scooters and we are going to be there for an early ADR so I think we will just use the regular parking. We will bring the handicap placard just in case.

Animal Kingdom also has HC parking close to the entrance. All parks are good except MK. We usually take the bus to MK, even though it is difficult to do so…(DS has a very heavy Convaid chair that I need to collapse, carry onto the bus, while controlling DS at the same time).
