Handicapped Drop Off

I'm wondering if there is a handicapped drop off anywhere near the park entrance? We are planning to stay at the HOJO but the walk will be too much for my Mom. We plan to drop her off close to the entrance if possible and rent a ECV when we get to the park for the day.

Any tips/insight is appreciated.

Go south on Harbor. After driving past the main crosswalk and entrance into DLR another 150 feet or so down make a right. This goes into the drop off parking area. When you exit it you have to make a right back onto Harbor, merge to the left and make a U-turn to put your car back at the Hojo.

This will reduce the walk by about 1/2, but take some time. That's why I would encourage you to rent a ECV from an outside company like Deckerts or Scooter Village so you can bring it back to the hotel with you, instead of repeating the drop off and pick up over and over.

That's what I was going to suggest too. The "close" drop off is not all that close, and the time lost in driving and returning your car will be a bother. I would strongly consider renting the ECV from an outside company for the duration of your stay.

Another vote for renting from an outside company. Not only will it be more convenient, but it will likely be cheaper as well.

Ya, once you do the drop off you will still have to walk down the bus/shuttle pick up/drop off area to get to security, get through security and then you're in the Esplanade. The Harbor side that Matt described is definitely the closest but it's not super close by any means.

Renting ECV outside is certainly a great option but not everyone has a car big enough to fit one to get from hotel to drop off area. ART or resort shuttle may take you but likely not for free.

If you have AP's with parking or don't mind the parking fees, an option is to park at the Toy Story Lot on Harbor just south of Katella. You can then take the Disney bus which drops you off as close as you're going to get, just outside the security checkpoints. You can drop off everyone right at buses where they can wait on benches while you park.

This is an issue that had me almost in tears of frustration when I was injured last year. The closest you can get is as stated above. I, however, like many others, could not walk from there to the wheelchair/ECV rental. So I couldn't go to Disneyland?!?!?! I could not believe that I could not get closer.

After a few phone calls, here is what I found out: IF, and it is an IF wheelchair rental has the staffing, they can have someone come out from there with a wheelchair to escort the person who cannot walk far to the wheelchair/ECV rental. At the end of the day they do the same --- if they have staffing.

You can call and talk with someone and try to make an arrangement. In my case we got lucky on the way in, but on the way out DH had to help me get from one bench to the next along the buses area - resting along the way - and over to the short-term parking area. He then went back to the TS buses and got the car to pick me up. It was a struggle.

True, but if you happen to be staying on Harbor you won't need a car. Many of the rental places do deliver to your hotel. I believe there is also a place ON Harbor that rents, near the corner with the........ummmmmm........can't remember the hotel name, it's across the street from the Anaheim Plaza.....there's a hotel there and there's a little shop you can buy tour tickets and DL tickets from and iirc there was a ticker that said you can rent ECV's there as well......

Scooter Village, in the front of the Ramada Maingate.

If mom were mobile, would the rest of the family walk from HoJo to the park? The ECV could easily go the distance -- the biggest problem would be getting mom to slow down so the rest of the family could keep up. She would need to recharge the battery at the hotel over night. And keep the charger with the ECV in the parks, so if it starts to lose its get-up-and-go, just plug it in at a restaurant while you have a meal.

I tried Deckert's this afternoon but they don't have availability. They suggested either Universal Medical or Scooter 4 You. Does anyone have any experience with either of these companies?

The one I rented was from Oc Medical Supply when I needed an ECV. (800-593-4942)

They also run Scooter Village, which is right across the street from DL. (800-956-2246)

I will be honest, there was some sort of confusion with my drop-off, which was supposed to come from OC Medical Supply, but they literally had someone from Scooter Village zoom over with one immediately and made the situation right. I kept it overnight for two nights (drove back to the hotel each night) and they picked it up at the end of the third day. They provided a charger cord for me and we plugged in at the hotel every night.

I was at the Convention Center and they had a drop-off location there. Easy peasy. Since they are right across from DLR, I would imagine, you could ride it over to them and drop it off. I have not done this, however, so you would want to ask how they handle it. You can find either of them via a simple Google search.

Via search, I did find this DISBoards post from a few years ago mentioning the place you asked about in your post.
