Hand Luggage

Apart from the usual travel docs etc what else do you pack in your hand luggage and what kind of bag do you have?


Are there any must haves that you cannot be without on board your flight?

Oh dear - just realised mine is mostly food - crisps, mints, gum, crisps, cereal bars, pringles and crisps! And baby wipes to clean the crisp crumbs from my fingers - I hate those.

Once at customs we were merrily wheeling along and I was sure we were going to be checked ... ... I thought everyone was. Anyway, I guess I was staring at the guard who decided to ask me if I had any food. I had a real deer in the headlights moment and stammered "I think I have some sweets." He laughed (actually really) and sent me on my way.

Seriously though, lots of things cannot be taken. On that same trip I saw a guy being mauled for having an orange which he had forgotten about in his backpack. They guard said it would have been worse if it had been an apple. Shouldn't laugh but . Anyway, he should have stuck to crisps.

I also take crisps, polos and a few other snacks for the kids, maybe a sandwich or fruit for the plane. I also take a book/puzzle book and some crayons and drawing books for the kids. Also take dd's teddy as if that went missing in hold luggage it would be the end of the world. we travel relatively light and usually have 2 rucksacks between the 5 of us. Oh also the camera and camcorder but they fit in the rucksacks too

I always have two mobiles, my Oman one and my UK one, saves me swopping sim cards over. Keys, make-up, perfume, watch and jewellery that I will change with on my trip, chewing gum, book, ipod, hankies, brush and have that all in my black leather tote bag that I always use when flying. Depending on where I am going, sometimes my mini laptop.

I take a change of outfit to change into once we land to freshen up, make up and tolietries, magazines, book, portable DVD player (depending on the airline) usually just in my normal handbag, sometimes I do use my cabin sized suitcase depending on my luggage allowance!

Anything I don't want to go missing or get broken, so my Ipod, camera etc

I have a large purple Disney bag and in it I put the usual snacks and sweets, my mp3 player, DS, wordsearch book, magazines, books, this year I took lots of wipes and hand sanitizer as well because of swine flu.

I have my iphone, cameras, satnav for the hire car (don't want that to go in the hold luggage), book to read on the flight and my laptop which I don't actually use on the flight but don't want that to go in the hold. We usually have one bag with the things we don't want in the hold in which we put up in the locker then another bag with the things we will need on the flight in. Apart from a few sweets we have bought in the departure lounge I don't think I have taken extra food on the flight before.

I usually take my camera, iPod, a book I'm reading, a small puzzle book and some sweets to nibble on during take off and landing - it's the only way I can get through that part of the flight, I hate it so much!

I take one bag for me & DD which apart from tickets, passport, will have in it - 2 DS's with games, Camera, Ipod, reading book each, fruit pastels for DD which I give to her before take off as she is usually excited and bored at that point(on the way back it is usually a big bag of Lays) ,Disney princess magazine, some play figures for DD and drawing pad & paper. I don't usually take food apart from the sweets for DD.

I take jetease tablets, my ds, sweets, earplugs, playing cards and other bits. It is usually totally crammed full
