Hand Baggage Restrictions to Be Eased

Thanks Alan, although I fear it'll confuse people (mainly my clientele) even more :rotfl2:
so its a ruse to get you to buy over inflated bottles of water once airside. ;)

edited to add: picked up on BAA.com, sixe is now 45cm x 56cm x 25cm and you can't take liquid cosmetics through security or water but you CAN take them on the plane (just in case its not clear)

Thanks for the update on the BAA website Carol :thumbsup2

Looks like you still can't buy liquid stuff airside and take it on board for flights to the US :( but you can fo other destinations. No liquid purchased before you have been through security is allowed though.

At least I can tke my set of timpany drums with me now though :rotfl:

we don't go until 2 months tomorrow but i'm just a little concerned about what to take onboard for joshua to eat. He has his own seat so will get a childs meal, but to be honest I don't think it's going to be suitable for a 13 month old! He also has a food allergy to any fish and could well get fish fingers!

Anyhow I was going to take a couple of Hipp Organic growing up meals which come in like a plastic bowl which is covered in tin foil and you heat in hot water, however on the BAA site it only says baby food in liquid, gel or paste form and these meals are either a spag bol or some kind of rice or pasta dish.

Does anyone know if these meals are allowed onboard or will I have to take 12 month old jars with us?

Also there will be the issue of tasting them cause once they are open i can't reseal them but i can obviously put the lid back on a jar.

Sorry to waffle, just don't want Joshua to go hungry!

Coming home are you allowed to bring normal hand luggage and a small hand bag, or just one bag like when travelling there.

Thank you.

Buzz182 - you should stress to your tour op that your son has a fish allergy, that mey solve that dilemma, if not I would have thought any food that has to be mixed with hot water once on board will be ok, they just don't want you to carry the water on yourself.
The Charmed one - the restrictions apply ex-UK so coming back it should be normal

It's not the kind of food that is mixed with hot water, you place the plastic container in hot water to warm up the food inside ( or is microwaveable). Sorry I probably didn't explain properly. Also If Joshua didn't have an allergy I still don't think the childs meal is suitable for a 13 month old.

Can see me having to take onboard jars suitable for 12 month olds, never mind. :confused3

45cm x 56cm x 25cm is the new maximum size. It looked plenty big enough when they showed an example on Sky News earlier :)

Great news :thumbsup2 Now what to do with that small nice bag I bought from Marks and Spencer ;)

Sorry to ask a silly question, can I bring home my hand luggage and a small handbag. Is that allowed (normal).

Thank you.

Apparently it is still only one piece of hand luggage each but you can put your handbag in your cabin case (if it fits!)

We've got the same problem. I rang our airline and they told me that any food is allowed on board as long as it is in solid form (eg no stew, yoghurt etc), so we are taking marmite bread, cheese, fruit, crisps, biscuits and plenty of food that he wouldn't normally be allowed. If the child is not eating solid food then liquid form baby food is allowed as long as it is tasted. We are also taking those Hipp organic toddler meals. We debated over them for quite some time as to whether they would be allowed and decided to take them with us, the worse that could happen is they will get thrown away DS will surely not starve with all the snacking he will be doing.

Haven't quite thought what I should do with the open bowl though. Two thoughts I had were to either bring some cling film or selotape or an empty tuppaware container to empty the contents into (as you can probably tell I have not fully thought through those options). Any suggetsions would be gratefully recieved :teeth:

Trick with my son is to give him food which takes a long time to digest so he stays full up for longer. Examples of this are brown bread, wholemeal cereal which he will have for breakfast, he also loves seeds which are flavoured with herbs - very healthy and can get you very full up. I know your son is younger then mine (mine is 22months) so these ideas probably wont work but it trigger some ideas for you.
