hand baggage ban lifted!

Does this mean you can take a bag with the above dimensions plus a small handbag??
Watched Sky News a while ago and I understand that you can only take the one bag, i.e. no handbag. I think the restrictions at Heathrow are either sllightly different or being changed tomorrow. Still quite confused but trying to understand the updates. Personally I felt better with no hand luggage - but I feel for those with very young children.

I think it's either a handbag or a bag.

I copied this from Manchester Airport website:
A maximum length of 45 cm, width of 35 cm and depth of 16 cm (17.7"×13.7"×6. 2" approx) (including wheels, handles, side pockets etc.). A handbag will be classed as one item. There are no exceptions.

The handbag would have to fit inside the other bag or be instead of the other bag is how I understand 'within it'. BBC was showing a small rucksack but laptop bag sounds like what those government officials obviously use so think everyone else will be delighted with that!

i agree on keeping the restrictions and no electrical items although i would wonder on the insurance side when in luggage. Also i think this would be a good time for the airlines to "shine" by upgrading their little freebie bag they give you on board. Virgin's is usually good - but when you had normal hand luggage you didn't really need all of it. Maybe to include "moisturiser" - yes i know i keep going on about that! and a bottle of water (cos i have sat on the runway for 1 hour or so before take off!) or they sell a few more cheaper sample sized stuff in the duty free so you can freshen up or upgrade your freebie bag if you want to purchase it and also a bigger selection of magazines/ newspapers in backs of chairs - i know the movies are good but always nice to flick through something. I love flying and this will not put me off going any where i want, when i want.

I am glad that the size of hand luggage is restricted. It seems to get bigger every year. Trolley cases (smallest size) are now too big to use as hand luggage yay! I am fed up of people taking forever to get these large items into the overhead lockers each year. The new dimensions in centimetres are 45 x 35 x 16 - I just measured my new backpack and it fits these exactly. So if you have an average sized backpack, you're probably ok.

The case I want to use is 48 * 30 * 12 do you think that will be ok?

I wouldn't risk it, those 3 extra cms might make all the difference, I think they are gonna be strict! but, I'm probably wrong!

I don't mind people taking things on the plane, but I liked the idea of the clear plastic bags! At least that way you could see what everyone was carrying, but no doubt too many issues with invasion of privacy. I'm very happy that my teddy can now go with me! I always refuse to put him in the hold in case they lose my luggage. I've had him 23-years, I don't want to lose him cos some idiot threw him on the wrong plane! :rotfl:

And see you at the airport DisneyD :teeth:

I would be happy to stick with the clear plastic bags as long as I could get a book on with me. LOoks like I will be able to have my book.

When the tougher restrictions were in force, i.e. until today, I recall that they were putting chairs/buggys through x-ray equipment, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

thanks jna - thats what I couldn't quite understand . :confused3 the fact they were still allowing buggys and walking aids through all be in via the x-ray equipment but they were only allowing airport wheelchairs through. our sons wheelchair is specially adapted because he can no longer support himself and I am sure there is worse i.e. wheelchairs where the children get ventilated. not unless they were making exceptions

That's a great bag, and the dimensions are perfect, I really like it and I'm tempted to order one myself but I'm worried as there are only 8 days before I travel. What colour did you order?

Black I didn't want one that was too girly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I was just measuring my old Virgin kids bag and it's a perfect size, so I know what I'm using. I wonder if they will be nice and give me a new one, even if I am waaaaay past getting a kids bag :rotfl:

Saw some footage on Sky news yesterday (albeit very briefly) and they showed a guage for measuring the hand luggage and the BAA operative was squeezing a rucksack looking case into the "mold", so there would appear to be a little leeway, not that I would risk it having said that.
