Hamster people

On Friday I got my DD a baby dwarf hamster (he's so darn cute). Well he's started chewing on his cage and I've actually had to take him out of her room so she could sleep.

How do you keep them from chewing on plastic? I got him one of those stick food things but I don't know if it'll work. Any ideas?

That's just what they do. I think they have to so that their teeth don't grow too long. Some of them just seem to like it more than others. My guinea pig wakes me up in the morning by chewing on his house, and we don't even sleep on the same floor.

I had hamsters as a kid. They are nocturnal, so expect it to be up alot at night. Mine used to go nuts on his wheel & run all night! I remember the chew sticks things would help. Also I think there were some harder type hamster food. Mine used to bit on his water spout! They just do that. Maybe she will get used to the noise eventually. I did.

Ours chews on stuff in his cage too. I gave him one of those wood chews but he doesnt use it. We have to put him in the laundry room at nite because he makes so much noise. But he is sooooooo cute , we love him soooo much.

Afraid there is nothing you can do to get him/her to stop, that is just what hampters do. My DD hamspter actually chew a hole in her water bottle and we had to go buy a new one on Monday. Let me tell you the water made a mess of the change.

If he's not running in the wheel all night, he's trying to chew his way out of his habitrail. I had to duct tape some of the tunnels so they would stay on because he chewed them so much.
