I'm trying to plan a trip for 5 adults and one 17 yr old on a budget for three nights. Hampton Inn and Peacock Suites seem to be coming out the least expensive for a 1 bedroom suite. So I was wondering if anyone has an opinion or liking of one vs the other. Maybe you have a suggestion for a hotel? Thanks!

I can't say anything about Peacock, but I have stayed at Hampton Inn twice. Once with a church group and once with my fam. Its a very nice hotel.

We had a regular room. Flat screen tvs, fridge, micro and nice comfy matress, pillows and what-not. Very clean bathrooms too!! They also have a nice free:thumbsup2 continental(sp?) breakfast. Lots of choice of hot and cold breakfast items. It really helps keep the food budget down.

But, its not walking distance from the park. You would have to drive or take the ART. The ART stop is right outside the hotel though. Nice and close.

If you decide to stay further away for budget reasons bve sure to add in the following:

o Transportation and parking (casr cost $12-14 per day to park at DLR)

o Lost time in due to transportation and how much that is worth compared to overall cost of visiting DLR

o Food - it is possible to stay at hotels that may cost a little more but are closer and you can easily walk back to your hotel and eat in your room - some rooms have fridges and microwaves. So you may be able to off-set food costs.

We really liked the Hampton Inn too. We stayed there in 2008. and the room looked like it had been recently renovated. The microwave and fridge, furniture, bedding, all looked new. The service was fantastic all around, from the kitchen staff to the front desk. There were popcorn and movie nights, pizza night, and cookies in the evening.

The complimentary breakfast in the morning was great in that it got us started in the morning quickly and we were off to the park in no time.

The hotel is located in Garden Grove in a Hilton hotel triplex. You'd have to drive or take the ART to DL. We drove and it was absolutely no problem. If you take the ART, the stop is in front of the Embassy Suites next door.

I think the Hampton Inn has implemented a parking charge now which didn't exist when we were there. So you may want to factor that into your hotel cost.

The Peacock is our timeshare. We've stayed there a lot over the past couple of years. :) It's a decent place to stay, we were able to walk it in the morning (just DBF and I that trip, we don't walk it with the kids) but at night we took a taxi back. Taxi wasn't too $$, about $5 each time. The rooms are nice, nothing spectacular, you'll get a mini fridge, micro, coffee pot and depending on which size unit you get you will get 2 queens and a sofa sleeper in the living room area. If you get the "3" bedroom you'll get a bedroom w/a King bed, a bedroom w/2 queens and a sofa sleeper in the living room. The "3" bedroom unit has 2 bathrooms which is really nice when you've got so many people getting ready to go. The 1 & 2 bedroom units have 1 bathroom. The 1 & 2 bedroom units have a door that slides to seperate the living area/sofa sleeper from the 2 queen beds. They are a decent size but nothing too impressive, in comparison we went to the Napa property that Shell has and OMG, it was AMAZING!!!!!!! :)

I can't compare the 2, I've never stayed at the Hampton.
