Hi everyone,
could anyone tell us anything about the Hampton Inn Maingate West and the Howard Johnson Maingate West on the 192, as we are undecided about which one to choose, has anyone stayed in either one of these, and if so, which one is the closest to disney and which one out of the two is the best one.
hope someone can help,
GARY & HELEN:confused:

It is very close to disney as you just go in the "backway" by AK.
The room were clean, had hair dryers, refrigerators and had plenty of room. The pool was a little small but we didn't even swim. Spent all our time at the parks.

Hope this helps

I haven't stayed at either hotel, but I trust the Hampton Inn chain of hotels, which is now part of Hilton Hotels. If your are a Hilton Honors member (or join), you'll get points for your stay. The Hampton Inn Maingate West opened in 1998, and has interior corridors- a feature that I like.

The Howard Johnson Maingate West is MUCH further west on Highway 192 than the Hampton Inn. It also ISN'T listed in my AAA Florida Tourbook!

Gary and Helen,

We stayed there for 8 days the second week of June! It was the second time to WDW and first time to Hampton Inn Maingate West. Me, wife, daughter (15) and best friend of same age loved it! It's off the highway so the noise level is next to nothing at night; the breakfast is great, and best of all, WDW is so VERY accessible- I 'clocked' it, and from the hotel parking lot we were in the MK, Epcot, and Disney/MGM parking lots within SEVEN (7) minutes! (Didn't do AK).

My wife told me as we were leaving on our final day that she would DEFINITELY stay there again!

Enjoy your trip!

I agree with the previous poster about the superiorty of the Hampton chain over Howard Johnson's. If memory serves me correct this particular Hampton Inn is a fairly new motel which is usually a plus.

There are several reasons I would choose the Hampton Inn....

1. It is newer - I believe it was built about 2 yrs ago....the Howard Johnson is like 20 years old.

2. Better location - The hotel is closer to Disney, and has more restaurants and gift shops in walking distance. This is always nice in the evening.

3. Breakfast - Hampton Inns have a great continental breakfast. Not just a box of donuts and coffee like other hotels, but they have the bagels, muffins, pastries, cereal, fruits, juices, coffee, tea, etc that make a great start for the day.

4. Price - The Hampton Inn does offer specials through their individual website.

5. Hilton Honors - I love to rack up Hilton Honor points whenever I can.

Hope this helps?
