Hammocks at CC!?

No personal offense to anyone, but if I see a hammock that's been unused for almost an hour, I'm moving your stuff and I'm parking my butt in it. If you have other things to do, then you shouldn't be reserving it.

RIGHT ON!:thumbsup2

i expect to get fried for this butttt..........my thought is that a hammock, which is a prized posesion as they are few and far between, should not be left unused or they should go to the next person in line. it may seem to some that you are only going to get lunch but that is valuable time that it is not used and as much as i hear 'i was only gone 20 minutes' in reality it is usually much longer. if you want the hammock have someone use it while you are gone. if you want the hammock don't set in a chair beside it because you want to set up and read for a bit. If you want it use it. lets all be far, should one person get the sole use of it because they have there book on it or have gone to grab lunch or just went for a dip?
now before i hear 'i got there first' think about it. if it was you waiting would it be different?
again, go gently on me, just my thoughts and i'm not saying i am right. JUST MY THOUGHT.:flower3:

In all of my DCL cruises, including a double dip, we have only had a hammock at CC once, we were off the ship early, but there were only a few available when we got there.

The kids wanted one, and had never ever been lucky enough to get one before, I was reluctant as I know you have to use it or loose it and so I set up some rules that they must be in it all of the time on a rotation.

So was all going good, one would go for a swim, the other use the bed, then if both wanted a swim I had a go.

This went on for an hour or so.

It was clear to everyone we were using it all of the time, most other hammocks had just towels or stuff on them no people.

Whilst DW and DD had a swim, my son popped off for a minute to get his drink, and I mean a minute, but a lady jumped on it in that time and chucked all off our towels off, at that time they were our towels and, not all DCL.

She took it for a few hours, the kids bust into tears and said I should do something, but we are on holiday, and we do not own the hammock, so I said leave it.

Lunch time came and suddenly she went to Cookies, so they re claimed the hammock and ensured they used it the rest of the day.

They are for everyones use, but a few people are just very rude and cause so much upset.

sounds like she didn't think children "deserved" to use the hammock.
you're much kinder than I, my friend. holiday or no holiday, she wouldn't have been in that hammock for long.:beach:

Thanks I think that or she felt 'she' deserved it !

We all have to be considerate, and I will not get a hammock ''just'' to get one, only if we are going to use it, and if not give it up, but some people, only a few are a bit rude.

We didnt bother on the next visit to CC, and in August/September I am not that bothered then either now.

I don't understand the hype. Not much of a Hammock admirer I guess. I would much rather have a beach to myself (which our family found-I'm not kidding we were the only 6 people there for the whole day!) to lounge and relax then a hammock to rush to and have to guard all day. Too much stress in my opinion.

To each their own...

Ok... IF you got directly to the beach by turning left after the gift shops like you are going to the the sports rental and equipment facility there is a great area with plenty of hammocks. We had no problem obtaining and keeping one. Heck usually most people won't go back there because it's not on the beach and because most visitors walk right past this area and end up farther down on the beach front. I am a shade person due to fair skin and this is one of the quietest, shadiest place on Castaway Cay, plus its close to the restrooms!

Those are the ones I was referring to:beach:

ohhh, i like this! is it the teen beach, or the adult beach, or just a far part of the family beach? what is that building in the back that looks like it has a fish sign on it? i know where i'll be headed now. thanks.
p.s. your dd is adorable. a real cutie.

I think i am going to go and purcahse a Hammock for myself and put it in my back yard!

And then i wont feel left out if i dont get one on CC!

Then i can use it almost 365 days a year and not just 2 days a year!
(double dip):thumbsup2

The topic of reserving chaises by the ship's pool has always been a hot topic on the CC boards and hammocks could fall into the same kind of debate. There is a point where reserving a chaise/hammock and leaving it unused for a long period of time becomes selfish and unfair to others who want to use it. But, if I have a chaise/hammock and take a dip or go grab a quick bite without lallygagging and come back to find a body in it that isn't my wife, that body is going to end up in the sand right quick ;)

That is the Sports Beach (you can see the volleyball nets in the background) and the building with the fish is Grouper's Pavillion, where you can play ping-pong, foosball, basketball, checkers & chess. DW & I were heading to Serenity Bay after dropping off DS at Scuttle's Cove but stopped at the Sports Beach because the only occupant was the lifeguard. It never got crowded the entire day.

We have a sand pit for that purpose. We mix up some Konk Koolers and sit around with our toes in the sand dreaming of CC.......:beach:

We just got back from a January cruise, and I have to say that I was one of the crazy people running to get the last hammock on the Family beach. Myself and another gentleman grabbed 2 of the 3. We used it throughout the day...there were 24 of us in our group. It is right under a palm tree...and I am sooooo glad we were able to get it. But, I must say, I myself barely spent 15 minutes in it, had to give it up for the kids!!! :rotfl:

I need to know where this nice quiet location with the hammock is? I was going to ask you on your trip report.

You need to get off the ship and not take the tram. Walk very quickly to the end of the family beach, you will find the bathrooms, the bar, and one of the rental kiosks. There are 3 hammocks that are tied to one post and 3 trees. It was wonderful!!!! All the ones on the beach were taken, and I was panic stricken. I had read about this place on someone elses TR, which really helped me.

I have to say that we plopped our bag on it to save it in the beginning, but just like Berta's family, someone was on the one we grabbed at just about any given time.
