Where I was from when you went to the store to buy raw ground beef, you asked for hamburger. My MIL always called it hamburg. What do you call it?

Denae

I call it ground beef. LOL

If I'm ordering a burger though, I use the term hamburger. Hamburg? NEVER, isn't that a city in Germany?

Ground Beef here as well. I believe the correct word would be hamburger though. Hamburg is a city in Germany.

Chopped meat, or chopped sirloin.

hamberg is a city in germany.
hamberger is a patty made of ground beef
groundbeef is beef that is ground up.

eta-I don't eat beef.

I call it ground beef unless it is in patty form, in which case it is hamburger. :)

Hamburger or ground beef. I've never heard anyone call it hamburg. Sounds like your MIL is being too lazy to finish the word :rotfl2:

Me too!

I've heard of people calling ti "hamburg" but I think it's mostly a regional/generational slang.

Ground beef/meat/sirloin... etc is most common around here.

I wouldn't bat an eye if someone called it Hamburger Meat though. I've never heard it called hamburg though... to me that is a city in Germany!

We usually say ground beef or hamburger meat (as opposed to hotdog meat, I suppose)! We usually buy pre-made burgers, so we usually say "Have to get some hamburgers! When we're buying for meatloaf, meatballs, or tacos, we call it ground beef.

Never heard of Hamburg, except the city. Now that I am thinking about it, why is it called HAMburger anyway if it comes from a cow?! :confused3

if I am buying actual burgers, then it is hamburger

otherwise it is ground beef
