Okay, here's what you do. First, buy a spiral sliced ham at the grocery store - much easier to serve, plus, since it's sliced, the flavors from basting it get all through it, not just on the outside. I make a mixture of juice (I use orange, but you could also use pineapple or apple), brown sugar, ground clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon. I don't measure the ingredients - just taste it to see if it's right. You need to use quite a bit of sugar. Anyway, if possible, let the ham soak in the mixture for a few hours (or overnight if you can). Then, place the ham in a roasting pan, with the juice mixture, in the oven and bake (check the chart on the ham for the proper temp and baking time per pound - I don't recall that off the top of my head). Baste the ham often as it bakes. Yummy!
I even use the juice mixture as a marinade and basting liquid when I grill individual hamsteaks.
