Halloweentime with Mickey PTR ***complete!~TR link added- post #205***

OK you had your scary weather. We had an earthquake on Tuesday night and then last night there was a fire at a chemical plant and we had a shelter in place. Fun times.

:hippie:

Yea, you had it way scarier. I'm use to going down to the basement a few times every spring. We live in Illinois after all- flat land after flat land..... but earthquakes and such... not so much....

So... yay! I just got this today:

Isn't it cute?

Lovin' the scrapbook!

I am still laughing about your foray into Central Florida via Google Earth! I had no idea there were still farm fields down there that close to the Mouse!

I will have to play with it when we get back! Thanks for the link!

That is adorable. The earthquakes aren't so bad. I don't have to go to the basement a couple of times every spring. I figure the earthquakes are a fair trade off for being so close to Disneyland. 7 or 8 hour drive away. And I am only 45 miles from San Francisco and within 2 hours of Lake Tahoe. It works out.

Because it's smaller, and the natural progression of our American-ized thinking is to believe that bigger is better, you can't possibly believe that what we have in Cali could compare to the park in FL. But I still contend that the two are far two different to warrant the hesitation. Bigger is not better, but different is cause for exploration! :thumbsup2

You are absolutely right!! You'll find that even though the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland are similar in ways, they are TOTALLY different in others! It's great discovering all of those differences and that is what makes the trip fun!!

Main Street in WDW is HUGE compared to Main Street at Disneyland....unfortunately, there's no place on WDW's main street to watch black and white cartoons of the old Mickey Mouse days! So there's a lot of things that have been changed from the original concept of Main Street. There is however a place on WDW's Main Street to have your hair cut at the Barber Shop!

I can't wait to read your trip report!! :goodvibes

Alrighty! We're all set!

So I booked our room, tickets, and airline today with Disney Travel. :cool1: We'll be leaving out of Chicago O'Hare into LAX on the 9th of October and take the Disneyland Express to our hotel, which is right across the street and a couple doors down at Best Western Anaheim Inn. We're flying American, unfortuneately, so I'll be trying to figure out how I can get the biggest suitcases we can and just checking two for the four of us, along with FOUR carry-ons. Actually, the kids can pretty well pack into carry-ons, so I'll just have to find the largest possible suitcase and have a scale handy. :thumbsup2 But it was either that or pay twice as much to fly United, so forget that! I nearly passed out from the quote I got flying w/them! :faint:

So in the end I'm paying about $240 more for the hotel than I had orginally, BUT now I'm right across the street at a much more intimate hotel! Only 88 rooms- yay! And air ended up being $300 more than the deal I found through farecast.com from MDW-->LAX, however it's on par for every other quote I've seen, so no complaints there! I'm really eager to see how this hotel works out- the reviews on tripadvisor are pretty good.

It's SUCH a load off my back to have everything set in stone! :bitelip: Now for the PS's and to finish planning.....

Oh wait! And remember all that about not having my in-laws along? Well-squash that! I happened to be talking to my DMIL today and asked her if my DSIL would be able to fly down and meet us in LA for Disneyland (she'll be 13 at that time). WELL, my DMIL says that she and my DFIL had already discussed this and that if we were coming to California, they were gonna come down to DL for the weekend too, so they could see their grandchildren. :rotfl: They live up in Roseville, so there was no way they were gonna let those kids be in the same state and not see them! Which I understand, but I had assumed that they'd see them this summer. Turns out that DFIL's father's health is so poor they probably will be doing the FL vacation with them this summer because it will most likely be his last. Totally understandable, but that does cut in on OUR Gum Family Vacation.

BUT! I did laughingly inform my DMIL that this trip would be a lot different from the first trip, that I would have an entire itinerary planned for the 4 days and that they would have to conform to that because we were experiencing things as a family and not missing anything. She laughed at me!! She'll see- and now I'm DETERMINED to help her rediscover Disneyland because she thinks she's seen and done it all and if my trip with her was any indication- she really has not really EXPERIENCED Disneyland the way she should have, y'know? I remember saying in my first post that they missed out on the MAGIC portion of Disney and if they are gonna tag along on this trip, than they're gonna get it this time, gosh darn it! ::cop: <--I'm the Magic Police!

So now I'm going to FILL up on as much history and trivia on the park as my little brain can handle to make this truly as interesting and different as an experience as they'd ever had.

And to share a 'Dream' experience- I guess last time they went down, my DSIL (who is 12) wanted to ride California Screamin' and DFIL wasn't so sure and they stood out of line for 20 minutes watching the takeoffs, my DFIL getting more nervous with each one. A CM comes up to them and says to my DSIL, "You want to ride this?" and she says, "Yes!" and like it or not, DFIL and DSIL were escorted to the front of the line and put right into a cart. Luckily for them both, they loved it! :woohoo: Hope some of their "Dream" magic rubs off on us while we're there, wouldn't that be something?

:rotfl2: Magic Police!

The magic for your FIL & SIL on Screamin was great!

Now be sure to not cram your itinerary to full or you will need the Magic Police to come find you! ::cop:

:lmao: I know, I know! Not by the hour or anything, I promise! But def. not missing all the shows & rides I know the kids will want to do- as well as us! We heard a lot of, "Oh, you won't like that." or "Oh, it's boring" on the last trip- and I want to decide for OURSELVES, thank you!

Which ones did she think were boring or that you wouldn't like?

I'm on board! I got to see the hm this last holiday season and its just remarkable what they do. It was definatly a highlight of my trip I probably went on at least 30 times in the span of 3 days!

Your scrapbook is very cute. I will have to post a pic of mine, if I can figure out how. I too went to Michaels and went on a Disney spree. Bought tons of Disney stickers, and got several different Disney papers in addition to what came with my book. I have never scrapbooked before either.

I will post an update to my PTR later this week. Thanks for being my 1st poster!!

Oh.... the railroad is "cute" but not worth a ride.... we didn't eat ANYWHERE in the parks..... instead staying at the PRICEY Embassy Suites instead and eating outside of the parks every day.... everything on Main Street.....she didn't think Rach would like Aladdin.....I could go on and on....

:welcome: I'm so very excited for that- so are the kids. They each have these morbid stuffed Jack & Sally dolls and DS still wears the Jack Skellington sweatshirt we got him there!

Yay! We can scrapbook together! I actually got my first page done- will have to get a pic of it uploaded!

So I open my email today and get what? A PIN CODE offer from Disney for WDW!!!

I was SO MAD! Because what I never told you guys, was that I was putting WDW in the back of my mind as a possibility if I could swing it for the same or less price. I was reluctant to do that though, as I am a stick-my-big-toe-in kind of girl and really would rather re-visit DLR first before planning our 1st trip to WDW right now! But I think it's so nuts that I would get a PIN CODE just 2 days after booking our trip to DLR!!

It was sent last Thursday- I just checked my email today. Just imagine- this COULD HAVE been an update letting you all know I'd switched to our trip to WDW instead of DisneyLAND! :rotfl:

But oh well, some day I hope they'll send me another one, once I really am ready to go. :worried:

It is fun seeing how excited you are to be planning your family's Disney trip! We get to go every year in October since my kids have a break then and we live not too far away (just a 10 hour drive I guess). Our first family trip was in Oct. 1999 when my DS was 9 mos. old and my daughter was 4. We have gone every October since then with 2 exceptions - in 2003 we went to WDW and in 2006 we went on DCL with one day at the Magic Kingdom. This year they will be 9 and 13.

Anyway, I wanted to give you one heads up - some of the dining options are not available in October - mostly in DCA. The one that comes to mind that I saw you mention is Schmoozie's - I don't think it has been open when we are there - or at least it has had very limited hours. The other one is the milkshake place kind of near Ariel's Grotto - it has NEVER been open when we are there. There may be a couple of places in DL too but I can't think of ay off the top of my head.
However, these closures may just be because we are there during the week and not on Sat/Sun. Maybe it is different for the weekend. Just thought I would give you a warning though so you are prepared to do some last-minute switching of plans if necessary.

It's been a while...thanks for your post on my PTR! We are down to 4 days to go! Your trip in October sounds like so much fun!

By the way, what is the Pin Code? Just curious!

Keep planning......:)

Hi there. I subscribed. We'll be down there oct. 26-nov. 1. Can't wait. Love your writing style, very entertaining.

Julia, I'm just very curious what nationality are you?

I'm 1/4 Filipina and you look part Asian/Pacific Islander.. :) :goodvibes

A Pin Code is a special # they give you through an email or mailing offer for a great deal on a room. Mine gave me value resorts at about 30%off during a certain time period. We're not traveling than- but I did consider taking them up on it- it is a fabulous deal, after all! I can't believe I got one- they seem to be handed out 100% randomly. I haven't been on their email/mailing lists very long. I hope I get another one someday- when we are ready to use it.

I answered this on your TR, but for everyone else- Yup! She called it! I'm half-Filipina & half-good'ol'all-american-caucasian! Actually scottish-american, so how's that for a mix?! ::yes::

I got my code today. And although tempted we are staying with good old Disneyland.

OMG! My poor baby has chicken pox!

Yesterday, she woke with a fever, a few red spots around her armpit, and a sore throat. Pox was my first thought, but upon inspecting her from head to toe, I decided on scarlet fever. She had a grand day yesterday, playing with her brother and generally happy and fine. Overnight, she woke w/night sweats, and this morning, very congested, slightly warm. As I hand her off to Grandpa this morning, they are walking away and my eyes ZOOOM in on her ankles and I see a grouping of about 7 or 8 tiny pustules. And than I look over her quick and see a couple on both arms. None on her trunk yet, but I go, Oh Nooooooo....

So her doc wants to SEE them to confirm today at 4:30. *sigh*

This sucks. Poor kid. Worse thing is, her daycare has an awesome summer program that's filled with field trips and fun things to do. Monday AND Tuesday had field trips to places Rachael couldn't wait for- 1st to a Playworld that is basically a gigantic McDonald's playroom-type thing; 2nd was to bowling- which she's never done cuz I don't happen to enjoy it much but I was excited for her. Wed. is the first water day of the season- where the kids wear suits to school under their clothes and play in sprinklers all day until lunchtime. Thursday was supposed to be a hearing test that I have already rescheduled once -now will have to reschedule it AGAIN! (she has tubes)

Man. This stinks SOOOO BAD.

Poor thing:worried: I feel sorry for her and I feel sorry for you. How awful and totally hard. Hopefully you and hubby have both had them. Good luck.
