Halloween

Sorry if this has been asked lots of times before - I did a search and bits of info seem to be all over the place, so it would be nice to have my questions answered in one go.
I understand that some parks have halloween parties, but they cost extra to get in. Could you tell me which parks (busch ? IOA ? MK ?) and which days. I have already bought 7 day disney tickets and 14d universal, do I have to pay extra ? Is it worth it ? - I am going from 30 Sept to 21 Oct.
Are all the rides open ? I am quite a roller coaster fan - could I ride the hulk etc in the dark ?

I am trying to do my itinerary - Is it worth avoiding the parks with these parties, and also what about EMH - should I avoid parks on these days ? Any other tips ?

MK have Mickeys Not So Scary Halloween Party. The dates are on the link below. Separate admisssion is required and all the rides are open. You also get goodies included from the CM's who are trick and treating and a family picture taken which Disney then ship to you.

Re; Universal Nick n Sara I know have been to this and started a thread with loads of infomation and pictures. You could do a search with their name and see what comes up.

Not sure about IOA or BG - sorry. I would avoid the parks with the parties on the dates as the chances are they will be busier. Unless you go early for the EMH and then come away as I was given some advice that they will be quiet in the morning, even with EMH, but get busier later as people come into the parks to stay. You can get the wrist bands for MNSSHP from 4pm when you show a CM your ticket.

We are MNSSHP on the 7th. DS is going to dress up but not sure about me and DH. Then again I don't need much makeup to look like an extra from the Rocky Horror Show.

Universal's IoA have Halloween Horror Nights parties that require separate admission - my SIL went to one a few years back and said it was unsuitable for young children. Alcohol was widely available during this event and many seemed to get drunk while there. You can't dress up for this event either.

Disney's MK has Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween parties that also require separate admission. These are more family-friendly with parades, trick-or-treating (for everyone, not just kids!) and photo ops with characters. You can dress up for this if you so desire. We attended this event in 2002 and can't wait to go back again. Tickets are about $35 per adult w/o tax and I think you can only buy them from Disney - not through any other ticket agents like the regular passes that you've already purchased.

Sea World had Shamu's Spooktacular which was included with regular admission and had trick-or-treating and some extra shows and fancy dress parades for kids. This was only done on one weekend though.

Looking at the parks official websites usually gives dates and prices for these events, too - they are worth checking out for the most up-to-date information as it was a few years now since we were there for Halloween!

I think Busch Gardens had something on, too but we didn't visit that year so we didn't look into it much.

BG's is called howl 'o' scream & normally starts about the last weekend in Sept,the last time we done it we had a flex pass & just upgraded on the day @ $20-it is along the line of US/IOA(by the way these aren't separate events HHN has got so big that they need to use both parks now!!) they had some really scary "houses" but due to the size of the park lost a bit of the atmosphere-as it's a bit open ie the stage smoke doesn't hang around long.The BG web site has a link to HoS so you can have a look to see if you think that you will like it.
SW started theirs a couple of years ago (when they realised how many $s they were missing out on!!) which is more along the lines of MNSSHP -more family friendly.
Both HHN & HoS I would say suit an older child/early teen up,we first took DS aged 7 & although he enjoyed it he was easy meet for the actors/extras!!!

We did IOA Halloween 3yrs ago (under protest from me as I'm a scardy cat) but it was great. Definately not for children. I was chased by a man with a chain saw!!!! which all my friends thought was hilarious, as I screamed like a girl in a horror film!!!!!! It did cost extra, but you could do all the rides in the dark. We're flying again on the 29th, and I'm sure we'll be scaring ourselves silly again.

Saz just noticed that you were asking about the rides in the dark:the first time that they used IOA,the rides were on all night Hulk is awesome in the dark!! Last year Hulk finished about 23.00 but DD was open longer,not all attractions are open-mainly they open the ones that are likely to relieve some of the pressure from the "houses". You can't dress up BUT we always get our faces painted (if I can ever figure out how to attach a photo to my signature,you'd be able to see!) as mentioned unfortunately they started selling alcohol & as usual there is always a small minority that takes it too far!On the plus side the park is well patroled by the local sheriff/police dept.
