I’m really worried about the parking situation for this evening. I can’t get there earlier or else I would. I think I’m going to avoid the structure altogether and just go to toy story. Plus at the end of the night the tram lines are so insane. Toy story buses are more orderly lol

Some hot tips from day 1 of Halloweentime!

My daughter and I got there around 3:30 and HMH FPs were after 8pm. I kept refreshing, and a little after 4 I picked up a 5:05-6:05 cancellation. Score! Loved it, as always.

The Villains dance party in Tomorrowland is the place to be! We saw Maleficent, the Evil Queen/Captain Hook and Mr. Smee/Stepmother with Anastasia and Drucilla/Queen of Hearts with someone (Cruella?) - Maleficent was MOBBED. Anyway, great fun, good chance to spot some rare villains!

The longest lines were for popcorn buckets and characters in costumes. Otherwise, wait times were low and FPs close to immediate for almost everything (other than HMH and GOTG).

We tried several treats and met up with blogger friends who had tried a ton. Nothing got bad marks besides the funnel cake fries at Award Wieners (I didn’t try them myself, but they were “overly sweet and weird” and went almost untouched). The pastrami fries and the loaded fries over at Galactic Grill got very high marks.

By 7:00, parade viewing on Main Street was pretty darn full. Apparently the parking structure closed for awhile. People wanted Halloween Screams! At about 9:15, a girl joined the group next to us saying she’d gotten off the freeway three hours earlier and it took her that long to park, get in, and then actually find them (presumably she was blocked by the parade for part of that, but still). (Side note: My husband Ubered over just before 7 and breezed in. Always avoid parking when you can, friends.)

Loved Halloween Screams! It was a total crush of humanity by then, though. We viewed it from just behind the Partners statue, which was a good spot except there was a very, very tall man holding his phone way up the whole time. So instead of the castle, we saw that. Oh well.

It won’t load any of my vertical pictures properly, but here are a few:

This year’s HMH gingerbread house!

Each character set gets introduced on stage and they do a dance, then they come down and mingle while the previous group works their way off the dance floor.

Many people waiting for the fireworks. We watched MSEP in front of Plaza Inn and then booked it over here when the parade ended.

He was off to the side until it started, so we thought we had a great castle view. Alas. We couldn’t move to the side because of a kid on shoulders just in front of us. Still a great show!
We were very close to each other for the fireworks. We were just to the left though. I couldn’t see the orb behind the trees.

Thanks for the post! Someone upthread mentioned that Maleficent was meeting for the Halloween season. Do you know - is she doing a meet and greet, or just the dance party? (We never find that we can really get a good photo or interaction at the dance parties.)

Ugh - the guy with the phone. Did you ask him to lower it? I generally ask people, and they may grumble (hurts to be reminded you aren't alone in the universe) but they always comply. Sometimes I don't have the energy for the confrontation though.

She is doing meet and greets during the day over between the wishing well and the castle (at least, that’s where she was yesterday).

The guy with the phone was way in front of us. I wasn’t that annoyed; it kind of goes with the territory that views get blocked, but it was a bit of a bummer since we had such a clear castle view up until the show started. I DID almost ask the woman nearby me to turn off her flash as she filmed the entire MSEP with it on; however, she was a little far away and I’d heard their group speaking a different language earlier, so I didn’t think it was worth it. I was surprised no one closer asked her, though!

Here now...got here about 745 this morning and the morning hours were fabulous. Hardly any lines. Rode hmh twice before 9 am. We went back to our hotel from 130 to about 5 and we're back in the parks now. Crowds are definitely way heavier tonight. We had another fp for hmh, but the fp return line was so crazy backed up we skipped it. I've seen the ap cauldron bucket at almost all the popcorn stands. I still cant decide if I want it or not. Will try and post more later or tomorrow. Sorry the pics are sideways, cant figure out how to change them. 🤷‍♀️433773

Decided just to wait for fireworks. If anyone is near the left side of the castle and sees a girl with candy corn ears, black sundress, and small world backpack that’s me lol.

Few thoughts:
-arrived around 4:30ish. I parked in toy story and entered with no issues
-line for Carthay is long because everyone wants the poison appletini and glow cubes. But it’s yummy so worth the wait
- wait times for rides really didn’t pick up until maybe 6? When I got in, only Matterhorn and guardians were over an hour. Even Star Wars ride and haunted mansion were only 40 minutes
- plenty of merchandise is still around. I think that’s where the lines are honestly lol.
-purple cauldron is refillable for AP’s. It’s 1.50 though. I got a cauldron last year and don’t need another.
-love all the decorations! The gingerbread smell in haunted mansion was glorious.

*my pictures are also sideways. I know how to fix it but am too tired to lol.

I've got a question for you all, because I can't seem to make up my mind. On the party day, should I buy an additional day at the parks and spend the morning there, or should we do a character breakfast instead? Cost wise, the difference between the 2 are about $5 each (and there's only 2 of us), plus we can get free breakfast from the hotel. At first I was thinking we could do a very late breakfast, so that it was more like a lunch, but the latest I could find was for 10:40am, which isn't all that late for us. If we were to do this, we'd spend the rest of the time exploring dtd again or at the hotel.

But if we were to get the extra day, it is the only day we'd be able to do the morning magic, so that would give us from 7am-3pm at Disneyland. . . Probably would take a mid day break just before the party.

I would do the morning magic at Disneyland - even if from 7am - 1pm, with a longer break before the party. That is my preference for rides though. You can ride so many with the early morning ticket! I like character meals but I don't find them a better value than potentially 6-8hrs in the park :)

Why don’t you do what you want to do. Who cares what other people say or think. If you have the money then do it. Enjoy the day at both parks

This area doesn’t have a view for the parade. A few times they made people stand and scoot in, and that’s how I ended up so close to the castle. I was solo, so I was a little worried doing fireworks alone, but didn’t experience any pushing or shoving like in the past :)

Don’t worry I didn’t hold my phone up to block views to get the pics lol. I held it lower in front of my face without the flash.

If it was for my hubby and I, we would get the extra day in the park. We would do a late breakfast/early lunch at Carnation Cafe after the magic morning. What ever you decide, have a great time!
