My family and I have been to Disney many times but it will be the first time going in September. I know mid-September is usually when Disneyland starts their Halloween season and I also know that Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion go through refurbishments for layovers starting around August. So my question is: does anyone have an idea when Halloween season could start so we could experience these attractions? Thanks!

My bet would be the 14th - that’s the equivalent day to 2017.

2017 threw people off, though, because people were expecting it to start a week earlier, so a lot of people were disappointed because they booked trips expecting Halloweentime and instead got a bunch of refurbs and short hours! So really, you never know... but I’d say BY the 14th is a fairly safe bet?

Space Mountain only takes a few days to switch over, so it should still be open in August and early September, unless it needs additional maintenance time. Haunted Mansion takes longer because they actually have to put all the props out, so for that I think you're right, it closes late August if I'm remembering right.

As the PPs have said, HalloweenTime typically starts in early-to-mid September:
9/12/14
9/11/15 (First MHP: 9/25/15)
9/9/16 (First MHP: 9/23/16)
9/15/17 (First MHP: 9/20/17)
So if you want to be as 'safe' as possible, I would aim for the latter half of September. If you're interested in Mickey's Halloween Party (MHP), then I would definitely aim for as late in September as possible.

Closer to the end of September is a great time IMO, especially if you’re hoping to catch a Halloween party!

Do a search for the Halloween Time Superthread on this board. The first page should have all the historical info for past years dates and lots of other interesting info, as well.

If you could push it to the first week of October unless your going on a weekend. I went the last week of September this past year and the park hours were VERY short ( 10am - 9pm ) during the week. It was really crowded and even with Maxpass we barely got on all the fastpass rides in Disneyland -forget about park hopping.

Be careful with the first weekend in Oct. -- that will be the Gay Days convention. Very crowded, and that MHP will sell out early. You can find more info on this on the Halloween Time Superthread.
