Halloween party risk with bad weather?

I would like to do the Halloween party at least once at some point, but would be too nervous to fork down that amount of cash and the weather turn bad like it did a couple weeks ago. I would just want a complete refund at that point, which is not guaranteed.

Anyone else feel the same anxiety about said situation? Is it worth the risk?

Well, only you can decide if it is worth the risk to you. I have been to the Halloween party several times and not been rained out, although I was rained out at an MVMCP.

If you are willing to be flexible, you can always wait until you arrive and check with guest relations to see if any last minute tickets are available. I have read some posts where people have been able to get tickets this way, but there are no guarantees.

I would think the odds are greater of a September party being rained out, followed by August, with October having the least chance. September is the peak of hurricane season, so you are more likely to have a tropical event in addition to the daily storms. In August you will have the daily storms, but a lesser chance of tropical weather. October is usually when we transition into our dry season, so the daily storms start to diminish but there is still a raised risk of tropical storms.

You just put a poncho on and have fun.

This. If doing it in a poncho is going to make you miserable, don't do it.

I've never been to a complete rain-out, but I've had it rain before. For me the biggest bummer was no Headless Horseman because even though the rain had stopped before the pavement was still too wet. Though once I did get to see him and see that even on dry pavement he's not going as fast as he did back in the 90s it wasn't that big of a bummer for me.

All but two dates in October are sold out, thus ticket sales would say, yes, it is worth the risk. This event is sold out year after year. They keep adding dates.

We got rained on when we went but it was just as the event was ending. Actually, it was a torrential rain. We all laugh about it now. It certainly made the event even more memorable!

Until they can control the weather, the risk of rain for outdoor events will always be there. Think of all the football game tickets sold every weekend all fall and winter!

If spending that much money is too stressful, it sounds like you are setting yourself up for disappointment no matter what the weather is. Attending a fun activity should not be such a pain to your wallet that it gives you anxiety!

It’s a risk, but if you want to go, you will want to buy in advance. Sure, it can cancel the castle stage show, but usually that’s about it. Lots of the treat trails and characters are under cover so they happen even if it’s raining. Yes, outdoor rides might close if there is lightning, but it’s rare to storm all night.

Parades can also be cancelled.

‘Risk’ is a personal decision but if you wait for the weather forecast you will miss out. The final parties are anticipated to sell out any day now. There were 4 parties available Thurs evening and now only 2. Anyone still considering going needs to book asap.

Unfortunately it is a risk (as the entire season falls during the hurricane season). I personally would take my chance (as BTY is my favorite parade)

Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

You’ve got to be okay with the possibility of cancelled shows, parades, fireworks and meet and greets. So, if the thought of bad weather really worries/bothers you, don’t do it.

We’ve been to lots of super rainy parties and had a blast at all of them. Many people bail early, or don’t show up at all. :)

We’ve done MNSSHP during Aug, Sep, and Oct and have been quite lucky. We’ve had rain-free parties every time. Even if we did encounter bad weather, we’d make the best of it. If we had a party experience where everything was cancelled and “rained” out, we’d talk to someone about a credit/refund. But to us, the parties are well-worth it.

We've experienced rain at a few parties but not enough to ruin our fun. We had one party canceled due to Hurricane Ian and Disney automatically issued a full refund to our credit card.

Just thinking about a future trip. Not this year. Rain I can deal with, I guess I meant moreso storms.

You're 2 adults, right? Poncho up if the weather is bad and make the best of it or don't book tickets if you can't handle that (no judgement, some people just can't and they would be miserable the whole time and that's not worth it). No one can predict the weather.

Ya, as long as as it's just rain and not really thunderstorms I could deal. I would really hate for the parade to get cancelled though.
The party earlier this month had lighting and such from what I read.

Just know that the rain has the potential to cancel parades/shows/outdoor meet and greets, etc…. It doesn’t have to be a thunderstorm.

Exactly this!

The parade will initially be postponed, so you may be left waiting to see if it goes or not, taking additional time during your evening.

Shows will get cancelled if there is any rain, same with outdoor meet and greets.

Fireworks will go off, but they will wait for the best moment, and it will not be on a schedule . Say they are scheduled for 10:15; they may send them off at 10:47 or 10:54 or 11:03 or really, anytime, and you will only hear the announcement immediately before, so it is difficult to determine whether to wait or try to do something else. We've waited for 30 minutes past their scheduled time, only to make the decision to get on Space Mountain, made that line, and come out of it to see that the fireworks were ending.

It's not the rain per se, but the disruption. It's not quite fair to say "put on a poncho and enjoy" since many of the aspects that guests are there for are cancelled.

We don't have a good record with weather and the parties, so we have not gone to them in a few years. They sell out more than a week in advance, and you have to take a leap of faith that the weather will be good before you have a reliable forecast.

If it's 7pm, and raining and the forecast looks terrible, you can go to Guest Relations, and very likely, they will exchange your party ticket into something like a 1-day base ticket that you can use in the future.

This Thursday afternoon/evening into Friday AM is shaping up to be a weather impact day. We should be at the parks during this time and actually target attending when the weather is challenging. We also load up on the ponchos and extra socks (put into a zip-lock style bag) carried in my backpack. MK has plenty of indoor attractions/spaces to eat up the crowds during inclement weather.
