Hoping to get some insight here. We have DL APs and are planning on doing the Halloween party this year. The opening night, 9/30, is a friday but its also discounted a bit for AP holders (lilke $5 per ticket).

Does anyone have any BTDT experience on how crowded that first night may be? I know the mid week ones are probably the least crowded but I'm not sure if the AP discount combined with friday night will make the locals come out in force. I mean, it is in september...

Plus, can anyone confirm that all the decorations, etc will be in place by 9/30?

Thx in advance!

Only thing I can confirm is that decorations WILL be in place by the 30th since the start of the Halloween season is Sept. 16. Also the first party is usually 2nd to sell out after Halloween night.

I was at the MHP on Oct 5th and 8th last year, so I might be able to give a little info on it. I don't know how busy the first MHP of the season is, but afterwards the Friday MHP felt more busy than the one I attended on the Tues. The decorations will be up with the Halloweentime overlay by mid Sept, as will the Nightmare before Christmas overlay on the HM and the Ghost Galaxy on Space Mtn. I'm also an AP'er and I saved $60USD on the 4 MHP tickets for the event on Sept 30th. Having been there during the Halloween season last year, I can tell you that the party is definitely worth it for the Halloween Screams fireworks alone. And lets not mention the over abundance of candy you get while trick or treating. Over the 2 MHP's solo, I got over 20 lbs of candy, so heaven help us when the 4 of us go on Sept 30th. Have a spooky day!

belledozer, 3 minnies: thx so much for the super quick info. Hmmm, maybe we will just bite the bullet and go mid week. I hate to do it because my dd will have to miss school the next day (preschool so hardly life altering but still).

When it sells out, is it crowded? Its not like a regular sell out is it? I just don't want to be stuck in long lines all night waiting to see characters. My dd loves characters so this is a big issue for us.

What you will find is that the 3 hrs where there is an overlap between the last 3 hrs of regular park operation, and the MHP'ers entering the park entering the park 3 hrs early, you will find that the park get's very crowded. However once the party starts the CM's are really good at clearing out the non paying people (they give you a wristband that you have to show everywhere you go to the CM's), over the next hr after the park closes. They usually sell between 16,000 to 18,000 tickets for these events, so the park will feel less crowded. There will be lots of places for your little one to interact with characters, and the villains come out to play.

I'm going to second that. We went last year during the following week on both Tuesday and Friday. We noticed a substantial increase in the crowds on Friday as opposed to Tuesday. While it was more crowded, it was still super fun and there were just that many more costumes to enjoy. There are some seriously creative people out there.

It is generally less crowded during the first couple nights because most people aren't in the halloween spirit yet. Most people don't know they're actually beginning the party this early.

I have to disagree with this. The first night of the party, especially because it's a Friday and because it's opening night, is very crowded. In fact, when the Halloween party was held in DCA, the first night was usually the first to sell out.

Normally the party does not begin in September like it is this year - even though it's going to be on the last day of September. It generally begins in October. But the first night or first day of anything (a season, a party, etc.) will always attract lots of people because of the novelty of it. People come out to see if anything is new or different from the year before, or they come out to have something to report back about if they write blogs or articles, etc. Not to mention the fact that there are still lots of kids out on break at that time (from Arizona, for example), and Gay Days usually covers the first night of the party. Parties held on Mondays or Tuesdays would be less crowded than Friday parties, and after Columbus Day is when a lot of the crowds clear out so Tuesday nights would probably seem even less crowded.
