Hi Folks,
So we are booked on a 4 night cruise from Vancouver to LA, just DH and I (no kids!) and are thinking of adding a DL day before we fly home. We are also considering a day at Knotts, given the difference in price, as well all know 1 day DL passes are crazy expensive, and we are Canadian, so adding in the exchange…yikes! Anyways, we are trying to decide what makes the most sense, where we will get the most out of our day- we are decided between a 1 day DCA ticket, or a Halloween party ticket- the day we would be at the parks is Oct 23rd.
About us: we visited DL in May for 5 days with family (us, our two kids 13 and 1.5, my mom, and sister and her DH and DS1.5) so did get lots of done. Even so, DH and I are commando park people, so want to do as much as possible in our 1 day. We want to make sure we ride Incredicoaster, GOTG once or twice, see Frozen, Carsland rides. We were hoping to see WOC as we love it, but it looks like it may be down still.
I think we can be at the parks by around 9am on the 23rd, but that’s provided we can carry off the ship early, no issues in the drive etc…
Thoughts On Picking DCA:
I would imagine the park will be open at 8 (prob 7 for onsite), and we would be getting in around 9…I would think that it will be manageable for the first few hours and we would use MP to make sure we got on the big ones. We love Radiator Springs, so will want to do the smaller rides there (I really like them), do the Fun Wheel, but I’m a bit concerned that as the afternoon goes on, it could really fill up as non-Halloween party guests filter in. Will there be stuff to do, even if it’s packed…I’m guessing if WOC isn’t running, that there will prob be two showings of PTN- although then I got thinking, are a lot of the performers going to be in the Halloween parade?
I would imagine we would be done there by 9pm-ish? Park will prob close at 8, maybe a parade at 8-8:30? I don’t think they will have the park open much later than that. If we are delayed getting off the ship, getting to the parks that would cut in to the most “useful” park time (aka morning)
Thoughts on Picking Halloween Party:
No rush at all to get off the ship, can take our time, and hit the traffic a bit later (ie let rush hours pass a bit) get to the parks, spend a bit of time in DTD (well what’s left of it) maybe check out GCH, DLH (never been in either) have a nice lunch somewhere then get in line to get into DCA for getting in right at 3pm- my concern here is if we are going to be able to ride Incredicoaster, GOTG, RSR etc- I’m guessing if we can get FP’s, they will be late in the evening (when it’s packed) I guess we could try to single rider Incredicoaster, but not ideally what we want to do, (would prefer to experience together) I also want to ride Maters and Luigi’s, I’m guessing we could see Frozen, see what else we can get on…
Or we could go into DL at 3, but book our FP’s for DCA (can we do that even if we haven’t been in there yet? I think we can right, as long as we are in DL? Do some stuff in DL, then head over to DCA, but will we be able to get FP’s for the big attractions, or will they run out early? I'm also wondering if the smaller rides (like the Carsland stuff) will have big lines due to the sheer amount of people now in the park
Originally, we thought the single park pass to DCA as it would be more park hours than DL, but now I’m thinking that it may be so crowded that we may have more quality time in DL and get to do more. If we went to the party, our priority is attractions, not character meets or candy. We may catch the Halloween parade if one is going in a time that works, and there wasn’t a parade when we attended a party a couple of years ago.
Gold star if you are still with me, given we do want to do stuff in DCA, but hate waiting in lines (through the use of RD/FP/MP etc, we’ve never really had to wait in lines), which option would you go with?
