Despite going to Disneyland rather often, I have never been to the Halloween Party at Disneyland, partially because I generally go to Knott's Scary Farm which is fun and all, but I've always wanted to go to DL for the Halloween party thing.

Anyway, people who are older than 18 can dress up right? Cause I want to, but I do not want to break Disney rules and not be allowed inside the park, and if I do dress up would I be allowed to dress up as Dorothy from Wizard of Oz? She's not a Disney character as far as I know, but I'm not sure if that would be allowed? :confused3

And are we allowed to trick-or-treat as well? My mom thinks only children (under age 9) can do it, which is okay if I can't do it but I'm curious.

The dates haven't been posted yet, I'm assuming we'll know more soon though, probably July yes?

During the halloween party's is the only time everyone can dress in costume

dressing as dorothy should be fine.

everybody at the partys is allowed to trick or treat, adults and children.

You can even dress up as a Disney character for the party if you want. Some of the best costumes get picked to ride in the parade! Last year they picked an amazing Mary Poppins and Bert and a Gaston with the trio of silly girls. They were awesome!
While you CAN dress up, not as many adults seem to at Disneyland vs. the WDW parties. But it's still fun, and since there are fewer dressing up, your chances of getting chosen for the parade are better!

This was at the 2011 party at Disneyland. There where adults in costumes but mainly groups. We saw a group from Harry Party a family with a toy Story Theme a family with a Haunted mansion theme.

Adults can trick or treat. However, some of the cast members seemed a little bitter about the adults trick or treating.
Hubby and I each walked with one of our girls they would place candy in the kids bags and then we got raisins. They give everyone that enters a trick or treat bag.

You can definitely dress is costume and trick or treat if you are over 18! I went last year at 23, with my exH who was also 23. I was a blue crayon and he was Doctor Who. I actually got a lot of compliments on mine. We got so much candy we ended up handing a lot of it out to the trick or treaters that came to our house on Halloween, in addition to both eating more than our fill first.

ok so here is my dilemma...im not seriously creative and cant come up with any original ideas...i have not dressed up for halloween for a long time and this year i think i want to do it...ive been into vampires since i was like 12 (in other words i was into vampires before they were even cool)and im in my 40's...because i was soooo fascinated by them I usually dressed up as one every year...i have a really cool dress and gothic jewelry and i also have the fangs you can make to fit your teeth (thats how into it i was)...however, due to the influx in vampire popularity, ( and notice the eye roll:rolleyes::rolleyes1) i have decided not to partake in this current popular trend this year...so in other words i dont want to be like everyone else and be a vampire...nobody will recognize that its truly a love of mine and they will all think its because of the sparkly wanna be vampires(and unless your living under a rock then you know what im talking about):rotfl2:

so, with that said, does anybody have some creative easy to do ideas for costumes???

Yes, you can dress up, you can even dress as Disney characters. Our first year doing the Halloween party the girls dressed up as Maleficent and the Evil Queen, they had so many compliments it was insane. :) And the best part was, I made the costumes myself! :) DBF and I intended to dress as Mouseketeers but I ran out of time due to work and the girls costumes taking longer then I allowed for so we just went as ourselves. :) We had no problems ToTing, none of the CM's seemed bitter about giving us candy at all, even with no costumes. The next year we went DD12 was a pirate, DD15 was Constance (from the HM), DBF was Hercules and I was Meg, not one person knew who I was until we went to DL AFTER the Halloween party, I was wearing the dress I used for my costume and a random CM said "did you go to the Halloween party?" I said "yes, we just came from there" (the girls were still dressed up, DBF had taken his Herc costume off) and she said "you were Meg weren't you?" I was sooooooooooo excited! LOL She was the ONLY person who knew who I was! LOL Everyone knew DBF was Herc but no one could figure out the girls in the purple dress with the ponytail was Meg. LOL We were also able to ToT with the girls and no one had any problems with it at all.
The Halloween party is loads of fun!! I wish we could afford to go this year!

Some of my favorites that I've seen at the Halloween parties are folks who go for something a little more obscure. Like they go as a supporting character, or someone from their favorite attraction, etc. Some of my favorites are below, they are kind of group costumes, but you can do whatever. My DH and I went as Haunted Mansion ghosts last year, while my DD3 was Rapunzel, and the year before that we were Toy Story with me as Jessie, DH as Woody and DD as Buzz. But don't feel like you have to be super creative. Maybe you could wear your vampire dress, a cloak and a wig and be Mother Gothel or something like that. Work with what you've got!
Here are some of my favs:
Gaston and the trio of silly girls
Sorcerer Mickey(guy) and the brooms (bunch of girls)
Mr. & Mrs. Potato head (this was actually my mom and dad! They got brown T-shirts and then made little "parts" out of felt, then wore hats. Super cute)
Pirates and wenches
Mr. Hook and Smee

I'm also trying to think of some cute ones for my nephews 5 and 7 and my DD1. I am voting for Mike, Sully and Boo, but the boys aren't totally on board. One of them went as Jack Sparrow last year and was soooo cute! I was also thinking Captain Hook, Peter Pan and either Wendy or Tink. Been trying to think of some other trios. I have wanted to dress up as Snow White seems like my whole life! Trying to decide if I want to dress up or not. My mom and sisters aren't sure about dressing up, but aren't opposed to it either.

Everyone has such cute ideas...I want to see some costume pictures...especially your handmade costumes Pixiewings71!

DH won't dress up with us...so it is just me and DD. She talks about being Darth Vader, but I don't think she would be comfy in a mask in the evening. She also really wants me to be Maleficent again, but I hope that we can be themed then. Do you think they will allow my Diablo Staff if I wear that costume, or do they not permit sticks, etc that could be seen as weapons? :stir:

You could pick 3 from Toy Story (Buzz,Woody, Jessie?) or any 3 from Alice in Wonderland (The Tweedles and Alice?) or Aladdin, Genie, and Jasmine.
Or you could be the 3 kids from the Nightmare Before Christmas! (the devil, skeleton, and the girl was a witch)

We did the Halloween Party last year. The amount of people in costume vs. not in costume was about 50/50. Yes trick or treat all you want, it's disney and everyone gets to be a kids again!

Enjoy the party! It was our first trip to Disneyland and we loved every bit of it!

Love the Lock, Stock and Barrel idea (Nightmare trio)!! Didn't think of that!

Also, the tweedles and Alice is cute too! Also LOVE the Aladdin trio theme, might work on that one. I just hope the boys will participate, they are all spiderman and captain america nonsense! LOL!

I'll have to find the photos at home, I don't normally post photos of the girls on public forums, but they were so cute!! And the Constance costume the following year was amazing!!! We found her an old flower girl or bridesmaid dress at Goodwill for under $10, we made her a bouquet of white and black roses, tied with black and white ribbons, she had a veil, and I gave her 5 rings to wear on a necklace to note each husband. We saw 2 guys with the BEST hitch hiking ghost costumes and they were so excited to take a picture with her and there was a girl from the party scene, she had the cake and a guy who was from that scene as well (they were together) and they did photos too. I'll see if I can find them later tonight and post them. :) I think your staff will be fine, I wanted to make DD12 a staff for her Maleficent costume but again, ran out of time, and couldn't find the right size bird anyway. LOL

A group of my friends and I have decided we want to do Once Upon A Time themed costumes this year (not for Disney), I can't decide if I want to be Maleficent or the Blue Fairy.......

ive got purple lepord mask and ears that i may use, my son wants be dragon, Im not sure we will be a theam or just have fun eathier way i love all the ideas you all have

Hmm, for some odd reason I thought anyone over the age of 9 could NOT dress up as a character from Disney because they don't want children to think an adult who is dressed up as a character is the actual character. I remember a story I read here about a teenager who wasn't allowed in the park because she was dressed up as Belle from Beauty and the Beast.

Am I wrong?

On a regular day, that is correct. But the Halloween Party is a special ticketed, Halloween Costume event. So everyone is invited to join in by wearing costumes and trick-or-treating. And there is no restriction against dressing as Disney characters. I believe there is a note on the ticket asking you not to pose for pictures with other guests though.

We went as a family of Dalmations one year (yes, DH wore a dalmation costume, LOL). Another year DD went as Alice, I went as Queen of Hearts, DH was a CDA agent and DS was Woody. Then another year my kids went as football players (one USC and one UCLA) and DH and went as refs.

But our best year was when we went as Mickey's road crew. DH, DD and I had construction outfits and hard hards with Mickey ears. And DS went as a traffic cone. We were so blown away by the attention that traffic cone costume received (including an invitation to ride in the Honored Guests car in the parade).

That was my story, and yes that is true on most days. However as jetskigirl says for the Halloween Party you are allowed to dress as Disney characters or any other character for that matter, they just want you to have fun.

I completely understand about pic posting of kids. I sometimes clipart a cartoon photo on her face.

This is a great idea. Love Lock, Stock and Barrel. If you have a fourth...I imagine an Oogie Boogie costume wouldn't be difficult.
Can't wait for October! :yay:
