Halloween on the "high seas" ... Disney style??

Was there a specific theme night where people are encouraged to wear costumes to dinner? I am working on my packing list. :) Thank you!!

One night only for the Halloween activities. Maybe 1/3 of the people dressed up for dinner. We didn't because we didn't know we could, being our first cruise. It would have been fun to do so.

We have been on a few Halloween cruises and as mentioned there are decorations and an adult costume party. My friend and I were Maleficent and the Evil Queen on last year's Panama Canal cruise which fell over Halloween. It was a blast and many people dressed up for dinner and then the costume party which was held up on deck.

They also had some tables set up around the ship on actual Halloween that had lots of candy on them for kids and adults to take.

We are sailing soon. We booked a b2b on The Dream then later they told us they were both Halloween cruises lol. Plenty of Halloween fun for us. We did one a couple of years ago. Did not book it because of the theme it's just we cruise at this time. But honestly it was a blast. I really enjoyed the 4D showing of A Nightmare before Christmas, seeimg the other adults dress up, loved the pumpkin tree in the atrium growing every day. Also the kids too cute in their outfits. I also enjoyed the characters in their halloween outfits. We are just 2 adults not blessed with children and we enjoyed it.

We got some great photos with the characters. We had to cancel our Chridtmas cruise due to me being in hospital but it did mean the money transfered and this time we are concierge so am wondering if they decorate the lounge!

If you then go back to stay at WDW like we do no need to then have expense of a MNSSHP ticket!

I am so excited to finally see a "pro" Halloween on the High Seas thread. I am glad i am not the only one who enjoys them. Its a nice add to an otherwise great cruise and if you love Halloween its even more special. My only gripe is I wish there was more "theme" but I will take what I can get.

Eventually the anti-Halloween crew will show up here to address the heathens...

I'm not "anti-Halloween". I just am not a fan of themeing on a cruise that takes over the whole cruise. Any themeing. Probably why I'm not interested in things like a TCM cruise, or a food & wine cruise.

But it doesn't stop me from booking them, if the cruise I'm interested in falls during that time (done 4 Halloween cruises). We just stay away from the atrium, and other activities that don't interest us.

Will Disney let us know which day "Halloween" is before the cruise?

As of yet it doesn't appear anywhere on the planning stuff but I didn't know if I should look for it or not. I'm on the Magic out of NYC on 10/2.

Suppose it doesn't matter as I'll celebrate whenever, but just wondering! I think I'm most excited about seeing the characters in their outfits!!

You could check past Navigators to see when they had it on those cruises:

I was on Very Merrytime last year in December and the lounge was not really decorated for Christmas, just a little bit. The big decorations were in the atrium

Bottom line ... how much fun is it being aboard DCL when it is Halloween, particularly if you sailing as an "adults only" party ...

Is there a lot of Halloween theming ... planned activities ... special events ... parties ... going on aboard Disney ships? We've done FE's on all our previous Disney cruises before so outside of that, what can we expect if we book a sailing where Halloween is celebrated on a day at sea? Is there any trick or treating that occurs between staterooms (as that would be fun for us to give out treats) ...

Any info on your previous experiences is greatly appreciated ... thanks :)

I received an email a few weeks announcing the adult costume party, that we should bring costumes if we wanted for the party that night. We sail 9/23 so the email was sent about 6 weeks before sailing.

Don't forget that while it is a Halloween cruise there is the Pirate night. So whether you go all out or just enjoy the events, you can dress up for the pirate night, on TOP of the Halloween night too! My TA told me even though we have a 4 night cruise, they have 2 separate party nights for Halloween AND Pirate night.

Halloween along with the other major holidays is not really done over the top on DCL. As others have said there are costume contests and a deck party in the later evening. Trick or treat is on decks 3-5 and adults may partake including the atrium, outside the gift shop area and the club areas. They have bags on the ship that you can fill. We are not big Halloween people but it seems to be done it good taste. Costumes are usually done in appropriate taste, but you always have a few. You can also dress in your costume for dinner. We also attend the kids costume party, it's pretty cool to attend, even for us grown kids.

As I have filled out numerous DCL surveys, Halloween on DCL does not make me want to go or make me not want to. It is just some different activities while on board, IMOO.

I am excited for this and hope its offered for our Cruise next year 10/6/17 Out of NYC on the Magic :earboy2:

I think we've already figured out our 10/7 Fantasy cruise is a Halloween cruise. So no promises, but I'd say it's a good bet for you as well.

Considering they are starting them like a month earlier this year, I think it's a safe bet anything in October will be.

On the Panama Canal cruise next year aboard the Wonder, Halloween falls on the first of four consecutive days at sea. The pros for us looking at this cruise are ...
  1. It's a Disney cruise ...
  2. It'll be aboard a "refurbished" Wonder ...
  3. It's a TWO WEEK Disney cruise ...
But the itinerary itself has NO interest for us whatsoever (except for transiting the Canal which for DW though is not that important). She does love Halloween ... and the chance to celebrate it aboard DCL sounds exciting. I would then combine the cruise with a Disneyland stay prior ... which means that there would be an opportunity to celebrate Halloween at Disneyland also - LOL :) ... However as I mentioned before, the rates at the Disneyland resorts are "out of this world" ... off-site hotels are cheaper but it would be much much easier for DW to stay on-site due to health.

So I've also been looking at other itineraries such as Canada/New England and other lines such as RCL and Viking Ocean ... I'm still quite undecided which way to go ... but we'll see ...

Slightly off topic for the cruise line board, but I did want to comment on your concerns about visiting Disneyland and staying on site. With the exception of the Grand Californian which does connect directly to California adventure, some of the offsite hotels are actually closer to the parks then either the Disneyland Hotel or the Paradise Pier Hotel.

Good Disneyland forum can provide you with some good options.

On our first trip to WDW, we stayed on-site at PORS ... the second trip was at a Downtown Disney (Disney Springs) area hotel. Haven't stayed off-site since ... you just can't beat the experience staying at a Disney Resort pixiedust:. Since our last visit to Disneyland was in the early 90's, we've never seen California Adventure and thereafter. As DW would need an ECV, I'm not sure how convenient the other non-Disney hotels would be. I don't know if you have any personal recommendations for nearby hotels ...

But now that I think more about it, the thought of combining the Panama (Halloween) cruise with Halloween at Disneyland ... AND Universal Studios Hollywood ... OR even Halloween at Knott's Berry Farm ... now that gets me really excited about considering booking the Wonder for next year  ...
