We're planning on taking a cruise during Halloween in 2018 on the Disney Fantasy. We've been on the Fantasy before for Christmas and we know that they decorate the ships. Is there a certain day during the cruise that we can dress up or is it only on Halloween day? We were just on a Halloween cruise on a different cruise line and it was only on the 31st. Thanks for any replies! :)

While the bulk of the Halloween on the High Seas events are basically on one night, there are Halloween activities during the whole cruise. You can dress up every night, if you want, although you'll mostly see the Halloween costumes on the specific Halloween day/night.

So if our cruise leaves out on October 13th, they'll set a date during that week to dress up?

Yes, as Shmoo said, you'll have a dedicated day that is "Halloween" though throughout the cruise there will be Halloween activities. When we went last year, we had a day that was "Halloween" and still had a separate Pirate night and also there was a Nightmare Before Christmas day that had two showings of the movie (in "4D") both with Jack and Sally meet and greets right after. The first night there was also a storytelling in front of the pumpkin tree (when it was bare) and I think either the last or second to last night another storytelling at the pumpkin tree (after it was full of pumpkins).

But the day designated as Halloween has the most festivities including a big atrium trick or treat with activities. We actually found it to be INSANELY busy and many stations were out of candy about 15 minutes in. It was sort of a let down. On our cruise meet group, we had organized a room to room trick or treat on the day designated as Halloween. Sort of an in-person FE but only with candy for the kiddos. We had a route map and designated time for participants to meet and trick or treat together as a group and we did it in waves (so people from the first wave could be in their room to distribute candy while people from the second wave trick or treated and vise versa). It was a huge hit!

great idea! might have to steal this idea! thanks for sharing!

@anricat - I would love a copy of your map as well! Our cruise meet group is trying to figure it all out for our October 2017 cruise and this would be a tremendous help. Thanks so much!!

Oh, it's also worth noting we had some people who only wanted to be hosts and others who only wanted to trick or treat. Some families did both and just sort of split the responsibility. I stayed in the room while DH took DD trick or treating. It worked out fine.

We had a lot of left over candy which we gave to our stateroom host and he was over the moon. It was sort of adorable actually. :)
