Since there will be a lot of traveling next month we are going to get a jump start on Halloween scary shows and I'm collecting a list of newer movies and things too watch that aren't too gory and with a mild drift into otherworldly, but not too far, some crime documentaries or docudramas are good. Looking for recommendations, here are some on my list and a few new finds I'll be adding to my classics.

I watched Devli in Ohio which is more of a traditional horror about a cult with Emily Deschanel, who I like.

US was a last year's hit.

DS said Nope was great, so that'll go on the list.

I can see there is a new Dahmer show so maybe that might be good.

Cropsey was fro
m last year & good.

Wish Mindhunter was back.

Vanishing at the Cecil was a good one last year.

Lost Girls with Amy Ryan.

Thinking the Serpent Queen might be worth the effort

I’ve heard Pearl was good. I haven’t seen it yet. The same director did X, which there was also lots of positive buzz about.

Not sure if it’s Halloweeny, but The School for Good and Evil will be on Netflix October 19th. I just know it’s based on a young adult series, it’s directed by Paul Feig, and Charlize Theron is in it (being the main reason I’ll see it).

Edit: Pearl and X may be gory, I have no clue.

I am looking forward to Hocus Pocus 2.... will be watching the original first though.

Also, Hubie Halloween... yea it is dumb, but it makes me happy. :rotfl2:

I also want to see the new Rob Zombie Munsters movie... I do not have high expectations, but I want to see this.

We saw X and cannot wait to see Pearl. I would not see Pearl without having seen X first though. Not any more gory than any other horror movie. The subject matter may not be everyones cup of tea though.

I am going to see Barbarian in 10 minutes.

I started the new Dahmer series last night, watched the first two. It's good.

The Black Phone was good.

Rocky Horror Picture Show......is my only go to Halloween movie. :)
I have never seen this :duck:
Every year I tell myself I need to watch it and every year I don’t get around to it.
It’s definitely on my must see list someday.

Started Serpent Queen and really like it, especially how she keeps breaking the 4th wall.

Dahmer one was started today, one twisted dude and Evan Peters always creeps me out on film so it's an extra dose of yikes so far.

Gonna need to balance it out with some Halloweentown soon.

I forgot about Black Phone! Many positive reviews.

I heard of Pearl mentioned as A24’s first franchise, did not know X was related to it. I’ve seen three of West’s earlier horror films, he seems to be gaining speed.

I mentioned Prey originally but edited it out, because it’s likely gory (OP wanted non-gory). But for anyone else who doesn’t mind gore, like myself, I heard it was much better than many of those last Predator sequels.

I still haven’t even seen Hereditary, Malignant, and so many others

I really like Ti West. Pearl is the prequel. I have read there is going to be a sequel to X also.
Hereditary is something. It’s like Midsommar. Incredible quality but not something I ever want to recommend to someone. They have to choose to want to see it themselves. Toni Collette and Florence Pugh are absolutely spectacular in those though.
Malignant is a ton of fun, the last portion is just insane crazy.

I liked Heredity well enough and watched the previews for X and Pearl, both look interesting but I am really developing a distaste for films set in & with the Hitchcock era vibe with the nod to throwback misogynistic themes.
This highly stylized stuff used to come off as sort of Noir & artsy but something has changed, I wonder how well they are doing making money.

Many people I follow on IG have said that Rob Zombie's Munsters is actually pretty fun- even those who had reservations about it. I may have to check it out afterall.

Edit: Granted, of whom does work for Universal (owner of the Munsters) as a Universal Studios cast member, but hey, even a former Disney 2D animator gave it a thumbs up.

I don't go in for the gorier stuff, but I always watch Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown, and of course It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.

This year I'm excited for the new Hocus Pocus sequel, and have already re-watched the original in preparation for the Disney+ release on Friday 🎃
