Halloween Horror Nights Discussion Thread

If anyone has seen/sees express passes for sale in the holding areas this year, it would be awesome if you could post it here.

I certainly wouldn't bank on it, but it'd be nice to have a shot at cheap express for our second HHN night.

Thanks all,

Pax

The first weekend no cheap passes were seen, possibly because nobody really needed them in the first place.

Thank you! I saw the map, so I already figured ways to get around if the actors stay where they're supposed to. So I think I'll be able to handle it! Thanks again!

Just be careful of SA's that aren't in the zones. I went once with friends (sort of regretted it, I don't like being startled) and we weren't in a scare zone and had those chain saw guys running through. We were near MIB.

Just keep alert :)

My post last night was kinda incomprehensible because I was writing from my phone in an exhausted state, but I am living proof that you can do every house (and a few repeats) in just over three hours without an Express Pass. Click here to read it; it's similar to the one that DH and I were using last year. It does require you to be in the Stay & Scream holding area rather than entering the park from outside.

Oh, maybe going to their designated post? Ah, well regardless I will keep a wary eye out. I've kind of learned that even though I'm terrified, if I look like I"m fine, they would pretty much leave me alone and go after the shrieking teenage girls instead. :) Thanks!

I have never bought an express pass. Probably never will unless they make them so cheap it's worth the convenience. The Catch-22 of that is that whenever they are really cheap you don't need them anyway.

Last year they had scare zones that weren't on the map (Zombie Drill team by MiB....my favorite...and those mirror guys at the front). This year I haven't seen any that are not marked.

Do they have the scare zones during the day or just at night? We are going to be in the parks during the day in a few weeks, but the significant other hates all that stuff... so no HHN for me :(

No daytime scare zones.

Writing from my phone again...we bought tickets for tonight to do the AP event. Rode Rockit twice so didn't get to AP area till 5:30. Between then an 10 we did 3 silver screams, 3 chucky, 1 spawning, 2 cleaver, 3 wolfman, 2 saw, 1 frank and 2 drac with no express pass. 16 houses on a peak night. They should have opened it to frequent fear. Ill do a full report tomorrow.

WOW that was awesome for a peak night!

We're heading out again today (yes, we are nuts for shelling out all this money for peak tickets when we have FF), so it will be interesting to see if we get as much done. We're doing the AP event again.

We went Thursday night and had a great time. We had express and just banged through the park in under 3 hours. We did all the houses and rides, skipped the shows.

Our fave houses were Cleaver, Chucky, Saw and one more I can't remember off the top of my head.

We went to Halloween Horror Nights last night and I hate to say it but it was the worst one we have been to yet. This was #6 for us. We started going in 2004. I look forward to this all year (love it here from October-December) and was really disappointed in the scare zones, houses and Bill and Ted. Hopefully they blow us away next year for the 20th! We still had fun but were out of there by 9:30pm. We went to The Kitchen (at HRH) for dinner then headed over. Here is how I would rate the houses:

Leave It To Cleaver-This one actually had a story line and good scenes. The scare actors were not just jumping out at you but actually acting. Funny and gory. HOT in the whole house.

Frankenstein-Good scenes, good sets, looked like a movie, good sounds with the monster yelling, scare actors were really tall!

Saw-DH though this was really lacking and could have had a lot more, but I thought it was pretty well done. The only thing is we missed a lot of the scenes/traps going off due to timing. I wanted to use our Express Pass to go back (we only waited 5 minutes the 1st time through so did not use our EP.) The EXPRESS line was 30 minutes at 9:15!!! They totally oversold the pass. People were really getting annoyed in the line too so we got out of there before there was a riot:) The regular line was 90 minutes.

Chucky-fun, seemed short, they put some thought into this one.

The Wolfman-They spent $100,000 + on this. Really?! The most expensive house ever built for HHN? Seriously?! The end had a good scene but again- timing! If you missed it (DH did not see the Wolfman fly down- he was busy ducking like the guy told him to) it was like-ah that was lame. All Nite Die-In, Dead Silence, Psychoscareapy, Scary Tales, even The Halllow were all better than this.

Silver Screams-there were about 4 scare actors in the house when we wnet through! Really! WTH were those chairs in the corners? Silly. Could have been so much better!!! All Nite Die-In was so much better in 2006.

The Spawning-Pretty silly (egg scene was good) but not as bad as...

Dracula-dark, a waste of a soundstage-nothing but a dark stone wall maze. Looked like masks and not makeup. Speaking of that...

What was up with so many masks? You could see the actors faces underneath! I go to HHN for the awesome makeup and houses that look like you stepped onto a movie set. I did not get that all all this year. Frankenstein's monster looked really good. Wolfman, the vampires, the soldiers in War of the Living Dead, etc.. all looked fake! Usually I am blown away by the makeup. The creepy masks fit in LITC though.

I remember when the entrance really set the stage for the night. HHN 14 in 2004 it was awesome when you walked into IOA. The thought they put into that entrance was amazing. there used to be stilt walkers, tons smoke/fog, many more scareactors, motorcycles, platforms with fire shooting out of them, loud music, etc. etc., I guess all the parks are really hurting. Now we get Containment when you walk in-sorry very lame.

There is no excuse for the Express Pass line to be 1/2 an hour at 9:15pm either. I have not seen that 6 years. Ever.

Holding out hope for next year!!!

Hey, i'm a total HHN newbie and had some questions.

First off, are the houses anything like the House of Horrors attraction at USH? For those who have been to both US parks.

Second i'm a bit of a scardy cat when it comes to things jumping out at me but want to experience HHN so I was thinking about doing the Unmasking the Horror tour. Can anyone tell me if that is at all scary or have a lot of things jumping out at you? I assume that its during the day since you go with the lights on but curious if all the actors are still in the houses. Anyone know what houses you can see when you do that tour? Gory stuff dosen't bother me at all really its just the jumping out at random spots that gets me good.

thanks for any info.

We went to Halloween Horror Nights last night and I hate to say it but it was the worst one we have been to yet.

A lot of folks, especially the ones who have never been before, are having a great time but I'm having a hard time disagreeing with you. The scarezones are especially bad, I'm not sure if they had to cut back because of the economy or just subpar planning but they definitely could use some work.

Bill and Ted's enjoyment level depends a lot on what movies you've seen before you show up since that's what they parody. Last year's show was exceptional because of high profile items like the election and Katie Perry being splashed all over the news, this year was more subtle. But we watch the people dancing their way out and commenting as we leave so we know that in general it's still a lot of fun for its core audience.

The houses can change dramatically depending on when you go through. The first time we saw Wolfman, for example, it was great. The second time was as soon as they let people in from Stay and Scream, it was too dark to see and most of the SAs weren't in place. If you were unlucky enough to have that be your only viewing you would think it was total crap.

We'll have 3-4 more visits before it ends, I'll reserve final judgement until then. But so far I will have to agree on your original assesment. That said, the worst HHN is still the best anywhere in the country :worship:
