Halloween Garbage (Inspired by lg3's thread)

Oh My, we love the tootsie rolls over here and the dark chocolate...ok, I should clarify, I love the tootsie rolls and chocolate LOL...I have 3 trick or treaters and love to pick through their stuff ;)
I get rid of the hard candy and that peanut butter stuff too YUCK...

I Can not STAND when people pass out that religious literature on halloween. I m sorry, it is just not the place for it. If you dont believe in Halloween, then dont answer your door, but please do not drop those pamphlets in my kids bags.
im crishten(sp? i cant spell to night!) and i dont think its the place for it us kids and teens (mostly the teens) want the good stuff that rots our teath out not plastic rings and papers

Why do you even let you kids go out if you throw most of it away?
What a waste
People pay for that stuff
what are you teaching your children ,that they should only get the good stuff.
There were years when were really broke and all we could give out were lollypops or something small.
We keep everything.
Some gets saved for gingerbread houses at christmas time.
I but the hard candies in the car for me .
It gets eaten through out the year
At least put it in a ziplock bag and give it to the food bank or a seniors home they really like the hard candies like peppermints

My kids can't have anything chewy because of the sealants on their teeth. I also throw out anything homemade or fruit. I feel bad, but it's not worth the risk.
What we don't like we give away, take to school, work, etc.

I pull out all the hard candy and give it to the late night trick or treaters.....the ones not dressed up. lol

I will have to say to the ones complaining about people putting religious papers in their childrens bags...... I think that if you knock on ANYONE'S door step, you should be nice about whatever they GIVE you. I mean you are asking for something for FREE. To look in your bag and pick it out and trash it on their doorstep.....wow...I can;t believe you tell your kids to do that. Unreal.

We too save the stuff we don't eat for making Gingerbread houses.

I can't believe that anyone dislikes tootsie rolls! I love them and they're healthier relatively speaking than most candy. I'll take them! ;)

I've always ditched hard candies. Just can't stand the things. I take my chances with caramel though. :)

I would like to say my DH is a garbage disposal. He WILL eat any/everything, including paper ;)
Please pm me for DH's address

He is SOOO happy we're going around this year, we were in WDW last year, and he was so short of candy

I take out anything peanut since my son is allergic. I bring those items to work. Everything else stays--they usually forget about it after a few days, then I eat it, and then I go shopping for the next larger size of pants! ;)

My girls don't let me chuck anything except the requisite safe/not safe candy sifting search.

They love any toys and money they get in addition to the candy.

I checked my kids' bags and the only thing we threw out were the opened one's.

They passed on the suckers and Almond Joys to older people we know.

Don't have little ones anymore but we didn't throw anything out when dd was young. She ate what she wanted out of it and gave the rest to daddy, lol. (Plus daddy was known to sneek a piece or two of the 'good stuff' before dd was done with it, lol)

I bought tattoos, small boxes with 6 temporay tattoos. Is that not a good choice? I also have some snack packages of cookies, mini oreos, nutter butter, and mini chip ahoys. Are these not a good idea?

I will also have the small candy bars and I usually let them choose. But now I am worried that the other stuff will get tossed. What do you think?

I always threw out any fruit, Mary Janes always went to my mom... but strangely it seems that by the time my parents were done "sorting through" my candy for poison there was a lot less chocolate in my bag and a lot more on my dad's face... hmmmm :confused3

But what I really wanted to ask, is what kind of religious papers are people getting in the trick-or-treat bags? I've never heard of those sort of things being passed out.

I toss the taffy/starburst type stuff - because they are just horrible for teeth and having a mouth full of metal myself I am super careful with my kids. I also toss the fruit, things that look opened, and things that no one in our family enjoys (I'm thinking licorice, sour straws). Also the jawbreakers/gumdrops because my kids start running around after they get back from trick or treating and I dont' want them choking on them. Been there done that, don't want to go there again.

Luckily, all of that stuff is in the minority - most people here give snack size chocolate bars - which we all LOVE.

They are usually pamphlets usually from born agains and jehovahs witness. She also got a paper called watch tower, I think that is jehovah stuff too, the other pamphlet tells you the evils of halloween, how it is satanic etc.....If you don't want ot give out candy that is fine, don't answer you door but keep your religious garbage to yourself.
In my daughters kindergarten class one girl was preaching about how if you go out on halloween the devil will steal your soul and you will burn in hell for eternity etc. She would sit in class and lunch singing religious songs and talking about god.. So many parents called the school and complained and the school called the kids to tell them they had to make her stop parents and the parents said "well we can't tell her to keep her beliefs to herself" and there was a big deal and finally the kid was taken out of the school.

We just toss anything that is open or homemade. We are all candy freaks so we like pretty much everything. We just brush our teeth as needed. 3 of us still have no cavities and one of us is over 30 :rotfl: .

I have a friend that lets her kids go trick or treating and then tosses EVERYTHING they bring home because they are not allowed to eat candy :confused3 .

IMO, those are great things to give out. I know most kids think tattoos are cool and I know my DS would definitely eat the cookies.

crayons, play-doh, the cheap plastic things like rings, fruit, homemade things, raisins all get tossed here. Anything that could be tampered with or just takes up space is gone. Loose change is OK.

Why do you throw out the play-doh and crayons? I like the mini play-doh for the little ones who shouldn't be eating candy anyway.

I make up goody bags that have: animals crackers, mini candy bars, a sucker, etc. The kids love getting the bags.

raisins go right in the trash, religious material usually gets taken out of the bag at the house that gives it to us and left on their step or in their bushes! Tootsi rolls and smarties and mary janes get "regifted" and given out to the next poor kid that comes to my house! (but at least I don't give out rocks!)

Smarties? SMARTIES?! How can anyone NOT like smarties? That seems blasphemous to me. They beat the (smartie) pants off m&m's! :rotfl2:
